feel like for a few years there was some success in getting players to not complain as much but now its back and in a worse more aggressive form, which prob has something to do with the officiating being worse and there being lots of newer refs who dont have experience in how to deal with players

maybe if the refs would like, you know, look at the players and address them directly instead of being all sheepish and walk away/turn their backs. like draymond got popped in the mouth and was bleeding pretty badly but the foul (not even sure it was a foul) was really hard to see in real time so maybe she could've just said "hey sorry I totally missed that, didn't have a good angle" or w/e

yeah that sort of thing wld go a long way im sure, the players are going to be super emotional its just in the nature of competition the refs have to be the ones to maintain their cool, but also sometimes the players are trying to have a conversation about a call when the ref is trying to currently do a different task at their job and often when the call was obvs good so its a pretty high stress situation

maybe the refs shd be trained to say heres what i think happened i mightve missed it we review the whole game and if theres a certain play you want looked at contact the office and well get back to you with our findings

and maybe instead of fining players for disrespecting refs the league shd make them take the ref out to a fancy restaurant and be nice to them

this is a rly good idea. i bet most guys would rather pay $25,000 then have to spend an hour with the ref at dinner & incidents would decrease. and if they did they would prob come to a greater understanding about each other. i'm fully on board.

ha exactly my thinking

maybe they shd introduce some sort of warning tech that's not as punitive but tells the player to hey cool it buddy or you're getting a real one

refs warn players to cool it all the time. if dray and others are pushing boundaries, they should expect to be pushed back. maybe it sucks for your team to get teched up several times a game, but I don't blame the refs. I blame players who think they don't need to change their behavior, because the fine$ that come with a technical are low enough they don't mind paying for the privilege of shitting the bed.

i am very mild mannered but probably the maddest ive ever been was at refs during some city league games years back. i was in one league that would require every player to be part of the ref crew for at least one game during the season, and it 100% changed my perspective. It was one of the hardest things i've ever done for real!

there was a good tv segment were rodney harrison participated in ref training camp for a day, at one point he got really stoked abt a big hit and was like DAMN then realized he was reffing the game and was all o shit

i think maybe 3 techs per game wld be better, 1st one is a warning nothing happens except the stoppage of play, then the next two are just how the techs are now, allows for more of a progression and the 1st one is less punitive

1st tech, no pb&j for you. 2nd, no social media. 3rd, no card games. 4th, you have to ref a 1on1 game 'Sheed vs Rodman

Play stops but nothing happens? What's the freaking point? At least attach a fine. And while we are at it, fines should reflect a percentage of a player's salary, so the max contract players and rookie minimum players are put on a equal footing.

my fascist take is that refs should just be a lot quicker to give out Ts

the complaining is annoying. handing out a T to lebron or draymond in the first couple minutes of the game and actually having the stones to throw them out if they do it again might help

the problem is Ts are too punitive, which is where my 3 Ts plan comes in

anyone else hear the bit during "Players Only" broadcast of GS/OKC last night when they were discussing if there really are more good shooters today or if guys just have more freedom to shoot now? And none of them would say there are more good shooters today? This type of shit makes you doubt "old timers" opinions on anything wrt modern NBA. Guys grew up shooting 3s! It's plainly obv by the eye test plus stats back it up. My personal bball playing experience leaves me with no doubt about this current generation of ballers too.
