a link to visti's "balearic monday" mix?
much love for his "Kodex 205"/ "Tokyo By Night" 12" but i also keep playing his "Jolene" to death as well.

beta blog, Monday, 21 July 2008 17:04 (fifteen years ago) link

balearic monday mix (and tons of other nice-looking mixes i haven't heard) available here

this past weekend i floated in my friend's pool down by the jersey shore while listening to my balearic playlist on ipod dock and it was :D :D :D

impudent harlot, Monday, 21 July 2008 17:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay let's try to do track ids for peter visti's 24 hours mix:

0:00 - ??? ("Captain, I think we're home/one thousand years later, where did I go?)"
5:59 - ???
13:51 - ???
20:03 - LCD Soundsystem - Us & Them (Windsurf's Any Color U Like Mix)
30:16 - Reverso 68 - Piece Together (Part Two) (THIS IS THE BEST SONG EVER BTW - I should hunt down the vinyl for this b/c Todd Terje remix of Part One is also amazing)
37:48 - Santana - Mirage
42:30 - ???
47:02 - ???
52:30 - ???
59:27 - ??? (I'm positive I know this)
1:06:50 -
1:15:34 - Still Going - Still Going Theme

That Fred Deaking Nu-Balearica comp looks like it'd be pretty excellent in this style.

Tim F, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 12:47 (fifteen years ago) link

13:51 is one of visti's own tracks i think? "heaven is a disco"?

59:27- is this the very disco track? that's an idjut boys edit called "blow me slow"

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 13:58 (fifteen years ago) link

DYING to know what 5:59 is

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 13:58 (fifteen years ago) link

which Visti mix are you trying to figure out?

BATTAGS, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 17:54 (fifteen years ago) link

the 24:hours one

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 18:17 (fifteen years ago) link

right, i got that part, but the most recent 'after dark' mix doesn't match this tracklisting you folks are trying to put together at all. so which one?

BATTAGS, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 18:33 (fifteen years ago) link

oh right, the other one:

http://2-4-hours.blogspot.com/2007/10/peter-visti-has-been-djing-and.html

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 18:36 (fifteen years ago) link

dl'ing now

BATTAGS, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 18:36 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah 13:51 is 'heaven is a disco'..can't figure out anything else tho, i'm no help.

BATTAGS, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 18:43 (fifteen years ago) link

That's already been a help guys!

How about the Cosmic Disco mix? This is even more of a mystery to me.

0.00 - ???
6:00 - ??? (I love this one -"What do you see????")
9:47 - ??? (the cheesy piano in this is amazing)
15:34 - ???
20:00 - Human League - Being Boiled
26:35 - ??? (pretty amazing whatever it is)
30:40 - ??? (I adore this, it reminds me of early Soul II Soul - structurally occupies the same role as "Piece Together Pt 2" in the 24 Hours mix - "Calling you African people! This is an African court!")
35:53 - ??? (this sounds very familiar though - could it be Reverso 68 again?)
41:31 - ???
46:56: - ??? (Some cover or edit of CSN's "Fair Game" I think)
50:27 - Deadbeat - Port Au Prince
56:42 - ???
1:01:14 - ???
1:05:39 - ???
1:11:54 - ???

Tim F, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:56 (fifteen years ago) link

52:30 - ???

hot r.s. - slow blow (or one of the many edits thereof)

max, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:38 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, that's what i meant above, but i got the time wrong

impudent harlot, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:46 (fifteen years ago) link

15:34 - ???

this one is killing me--i think ive heard an edit of it somewhere? the bass is instantly recognizable.

max, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 22:07 (fifteen years ago) link

oh sorry harlot i didnt see thats what u meant

max, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 22:08 (fifteen years ago) link

a tip off :
A Mountain of One - Collected Works - Zavvi - £3
[you may have to dig in the random sale racks]
having heard this album, i now get why this thread is so full of love for the band.
wonderful.

mark e, Thursday, 24 July 2008 08:43 (fifteen years ago) link

am i the only one to hear shades of those london spaced out acid jazz'rs Sandals in AMO1s people without love ?

not a complaint though, as i loved the Sandals thing before it all fell apart under bad coverart choices.

mark e, Thursday, 24 July 2008 09:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Sammy Barbot - New Mexico

^^ i knew this one from the lovefingers edit of this track

max, Thursday, 24 July 2008 12:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Sammy Barbot - New Mexico

love this, he used it on some other mix right?

deej, Thursday, 24 July 2008 12:55 (fifteen years ago) link

lol xp

deej, Thursday, 24 July 2008 12:55 (fifteen years ago) link

oh nev mind thats the same mix ive been listening to

deej, Thursday, 24 July 2008 12:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Love the vocal in the background of "New Mexico" shouting "you're not the only one!" - sounds really doom-laden for some reason!

Tim F, Thursday, 24 July 2008 13:16 (fifteen years ago) link

But really the heart of this mix for me is the Sly Mongoose/Kwanzaa Posse section. If I had that Kwanzaa Posse track I would play it at every party ever.

Tim F, Thursday, 24 July 2008 13:19 (fifteen years ago) link

calling all you african people!

Tim F, Thursday, 24 July 2008 13:29 (fifteen years ago) link

theres like forty mixes of this track

max, Thursday, 24 July 2008 13:34 (fifteen years ago) link

(Basic Groove)
(Radio Mix)
(Dimension Of Blue Clouds Mix)
(Hypno Beat)
(Funk Rebirth)
(Afro Ambient Mix)
(Mellow Mix)

max, Thursday, 24 July 2008 13:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah that zshare link is not quite the right one, but still good. It's more self-consciously "balearic".

Tim F, Thursday, 24 July 2008 13:36 (fifteen years ago) link

the 'funk re-birth' mix has verses!

max, Thursday, 24 July 2008 13:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm gonna be asking for help with Visti's "After Dark" mix soon. 9 minutes in and it's so good. Second track is just insane...

Tim F, Thursday, 24 July 2008 13:41 (fifteen years ago) link

while we're playing the tracklist game, any guesses on mark e's mystery mix? i know the second-to-last track he uses and that's about it

i really love "shulme" and the smith and mudd album in general's been growing on me lately

impudent harlot, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:08 (fifteen years ago) link

aside from "still going theme" i don't know anything on the after dark mix. the track after that is (a remix of?) "forever more" by moloko

impudent harlot, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:44 (fifteen years ago) link

Not that it helps but 5:59 on teh Visti Cosmic mix was used by Prins Thomas at the Gun Club last year. Its on the mix from that at around 35:00 of Part 1 of his mix.

san frandisco, Thursday, 24 July 2008 22:31 (fifteen years ago) link

I think, when we look back at Balearic, we'll see it peaked with Reinterpretations.

I know, right?, Thursday, 24 July 2008 22:32 (fifteen years ago) link

52:30 - ???

hot r.s. - slow blow (or one of the many edits thereof)

fred deakin 'nu balearica' mix looks spot-on

CD01:
1. Williams - Love On A Real Train
2. Aeroplane - Caramellas
3. In Fragranti - Additional Alpha Blocker
4. Kaoru Inoue The Secret Field (Todd Terje Remix)
5. Hatchback - White Diamond (Prins Thomas Miks Del 1 & 2)
6. Bogdan Irkϋk a.k.a Bulgari - Space Reflecting On The Bosporos
7. Antena - On The Boat (Rubber Room's Disco Devil Remix)
8. Sasse - Mount Juneau
9. Professor Genius - Across The Spree

.
.

so - any consensus on this ?

i loved deakins triptych 3 cd set given that it was totally all over the place and a fascinating listen.
is this nu-balearic set a good'un for us newbies to the genre (loved AMO1/Studio stuff i have heard)

mark e, Friday, 1 August 2008 08:06 (fifteen years ago) link

I haven't got it (YET) but from the tracklist alone it looks like the perfect overview. I listened to samples of the tracks I don't know and they all sound ace.

Possibly it might get a bit samey over two discs - it's the only commercial mix I've seen that hones in on this sound so consistently. But it looks very good.

Tim F, Friday, 1 August 2008 08:21 (fifteen years ago) link

absolutely.
he's obviously a fan of the scene and pushed the licencing through sharpish, these making this a fine looking quickfire starter pack that i suspect i'm going to give in to my urges and buy in a few hours time.
