I place decent odds at the book being passable and better than the live event from their collected backgrounds: Will was an editor at a publishing house, Amber is a longtime writer, teaches intro-comp, and edits at Current Affairs, Virgil & Felix were (sporadic) writers. Matt’s the one who’s self-admittedly horrible at writing, if better at the theoretical bits.

i know they all came up as twitter funnymen but their humor doesn't really work in text imo, needs their goofy voices and delivery. their email newsletter is pretty whatever for the same reason. amber's writing is good but isn't really the same as the chapo house style.
anyway i'm curious about this but as a young white brooklynite in the music industry i would rather ritually disembowel myself than be seen reading this in public.

Richard Wolff is going to guest, so I might listen. (Been enjoying his series on Marx)

Wolff is an old crank imo, chapo should have Marshall Steinbaum on
― flopson, Monday, 19 February 2018 20:48 (six years ago) link
wolff is a cranky but beloved grandpa imo, i want him to feed me werther’s originals and tell me about class struggle

chapo old marxist economists house - they should get bob brenner on
― khat person (jim in vancouver), Monday, 19 February 2018 21:02 (six years ago) link
thought this was v nice. i like how he went into the naturalization of economics: supply and demand being accepted as a natural law a la gravity, etc. in school classes i often heard "People are born greedy/selfish, that's just the way they are" nice to see such intellectual laziness called out

Yeah, I liked this ep and wish they’d do more of them. We need a shit-ton more introductions to the history & theory and whatever at you can to ease the on-ramping and (incremental?) left radicalism of people, the better.
― Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Monday, 19 February 2018 21:33 (six years ago) link
Keeping Felix out of the theory eps(remember the book club ep on Mark Fisher last year?) is indeed a really good idea
― Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Monday, 19 February 2018 21:34 (six years ago) link
I appreciated Matt in the last episode - “does it make anyone else feel old as shit when he does that?” Yes, yes it does.

A week late but when I read that Amazon description of Chapo the Book that Simon posted I can only hear it in the voice of Adomian's Gorka impression.

Felix's first bit as Jordan Peterson in the cold open is hilarious. "I am so sick of women hitting the dab on young men! They say the have to do it to 'em--you never have to do it to somebody!!!!"

― Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Monday, 26 February 2018 17:28 (six years ago) link
Matt's Zizek was solid too but that's a strangely easy impression to do.
― Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Monday, 26 February 2018 17:29 (six years ago) link
MC's Zizek is pretty good, he's done it before, and it's not a very hard impression to do but he nails the cadence & coke/cold sniffs.

Virgil is making new friends everyday:
Get your facts straight. The “AR” in AR-15 doesn’t stand for “assault rifle.” It stands for “automatic rifle” because the AR-15 is in the machine gun class of calibers.— Virgil Texas (@virgiltexas) March 1, 2018
