too bad the Secret of Mana remaster looks like hot garbage. they need to localize the Japanese Seiken Densetsu Collection stat

the music i've heard from the secret of mana remake sounds like an intentional sabotage of the original ost
― ciderpress, Friday, 16 February 2018 23:05 (six years ago) link
the rest of the game looks that way, too.

that's pretty frustrating to hear. some indie needs to cash in on a spiritual sequel/remake for real. hell, kickstart it and get Hiroki Kikuta to do the score, you'll gain a million right there

Hey, look, they must have seen my occasional complaint on this thread and finally patched Doom! If I can find a copy for less than $50 I think I'll buy it.

just picked up Bayonetta, preordered Kirby & rebuying Dark Souls.

― my opinionation (Hamildan), Wednesday, 21 February 2018 12:08 (six years ago) link
Finally bought Doom, now that it's been fixed. I am so far removed from gaming that I've never played a first person shooter, let alone anything that demanded the use of so many buttons, or even much in the way of aiming or actions more complex than standard jump/shoot/run mechanics. Played it a bit for the first time and it's cool but pretty overwhelming. Mostly I need to just practice moving around and playing with the camera, not to mention the newly added gyro controls, since as it is I barely know where I'm pointing half the time. I assume it will all click eventually and I'll get better.

I agree tho, my body craves marketing and announcements
Though I’m getting Kirby.
i'm not that big on kirby games & looks like this one is more designed for local multiplayer than most
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 28 February 2018 01:41 (six years ago) link
Looking forward to Kirby as something I can play with my kids. Nintendo definitely being cagey about stuff in the queue. For the time being, though, I am more than content with the games I have, and I have yet to play Mario or Zelda (which are just waiting in the wings for me), or complete Celeste, or play the other Shovel Knight games, or get more than a couple of levels into Overcooked, or replay Steamworld Dig 2 (which I loved), or figure out how to use the controls on even a rudimentary level in Doom ....
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 28 February 2018 02:18 (six years ago) link
OK, I've been playing on the easy "You Still Wear Diapers" mode or whatever on Doom, and it's a ton of fun so far, even if I rarely know entirely what's going on.

That's what I have sort of come to appreciate. Death comes easy (like Celeste), but you are encouraged to seek it out and get up close to demons. It's counter-intuitive but fun to restore your health by getting close enough to get killed.

a demo of Kirby is on the eShop in other regions, presumably will go up on the US shop tonight

there's nothing really exciting on the 2018 horizon for me (I'll pick up celeste when it drops in price & I'm fully done with botw). hoping for an announcement of some combination of wonderful 101 (port), luigi's mansion, NSMB, pikmin... really, there's plenty in the nintendo stable (between new releases for IPs and re-hashes *cough* wind waker *cough*)... plus, I don't really have much time to game these days so a sparse roster works for me.... do wonder if that's a factor in why so many /adults/ seem to have picked up switches but ~teens~ seem less enthused (no fortnite either, I guess)
a release date for prime would be nice too

I’ve never played Dark Souls and it’s my kind of game, hoping the port is good
― flamboyant goon tie included, Saturday, 3 March 2018 20:30 (six years ago) link
Yeah, I'm weirdly psyched.
I've been playing Doom on wimp mode, so I upped the difficulty to the next level and now I get my ass kicked in, like, 10 seconds. But it's fun! Still figuring stuff out, though. I find the map - and aiming! - perplexing, and there are all these little details I'm not sure I'm supposed to take note of. Like, is it plot/story, or is it clear instruction that I have to find the thing that does the thing to open the thing? I guess there's a lot to discover if I ever make it to the end and replay.

there's a new Kirby game demo up for free on the eShop. haven't played it yet but the screenshots look pretty nice.

― jamiesummerz, Monday, 5 March 2018 10:23 (six years ago) link
Looking forward to it with the kids.
Still getting my ass kicked in rudimentary ways by Doom. But I think I decided to stick with the next to easiest mode (which is to say, default), which has been too difficult for me to progress but I figure I'll eventually figure things out and in the meantime have more fun and make the game last longer.

there's actually some cool games lined up for 2018 that I hadn't clocked: kentucky zero TV edition; light fingers; shakedown hawaii; wargroove; 2064; fire emblem switch;
those plus yoshi, octopath & mario tennis should see me through. plus there's still plenty of year left for announcements.
― ||||||||, Tuesday, 6 March 2018 19:21 (six years ago) link
there's a lot of major titles we know have been in development (yoshi, fire emblem, pokemon, metroid, pikmin, whatever mysterious thing retro studios has been working on for the past 4 years) people are just getting antsy since none of them are actually confirmed for this year yet and the release calendar is going blank
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 6 March 2018 20:45 (six years ago) link
also ppl seem to think they're gonna release an updated version of the wii u smash bros concurrently with the paid online service going live this fall, which makes almost too much sense to not happen

i feel like they deserve a couple of years of slack considering how good Mario and Zelda came out
― Nhex, Tuesday, 6 March 2018 23:50 (six years ago) link
Nintendo doesn't really announce too much in advance. Mario was revealed at the E3 in June 2017 and released in October. its totally possible they just drop Metroid/Pokemon at any point this year.
― Hazy Maze Cave (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 04:26 (six years ago) link
Man it sort of breaks my heart to hear all this optimism about nintendo release schedules, maybe none of you guys owned wii U (or gamecube). I mean I really hope I'm wrong and nintendo get it right this time but they've got a pretty consistently bad track record when it comes to actually getting around to releasing games for their systems, yes 2017 was a huge exception to that but it's far from guaranteed they won't just fall back again.
I mean maybe I'm non-standard but my refusal to rebuy games I already bought on wii u, coupled with a long history of picking up indie titles in steam bundles means that switch for me is still pretty much a 2 (maybe 3) game console.
― JimD, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 10:27 (six years ago) link
In Nintendo’s favour they are putting nearly all their development resources behind Switch games with only the occasional small team making mobile games, whereas before it was split 50/50 between console and handheld. They also seem more open to loaning out series to outside teams, which should lead to more releases like the excellent Rabbids Kingdom. I’m optimistic!
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 11:07 (six years ago) link
there will be a large swathe of recent switch owners who never owned a wii U so fully expecting ports up the wazoo (which is fine by me because I never had a U.) crazy the switch has already outdone the U’s lifetime numbers in its first year
― ||||||||, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 11:38 (six years ago) link
Yeah, I never had a U so ports are fine with me. But if Nintendo wants to keep this thing rolling they need to keep things interesting, which means not only predictable Nintendo ports or, for that matter, predicable titles (Kirby, Metroid, etc.), but uncharacteristic edgy legacy ports like Dark Souls, Doom, and Wolfenstein, and new games that keep up the "must play" allure. For me, the games I have pre-ordered are DK:Tropical Freeze, Kirby (for the kids) and Dark Souls. Other than that, I suspect more and more indies, like if Hollow Knight ever comes out, but AAA Nintendo titles would be good to get on the public schedule. Having things on the calendar to look forward to (which we'll get, sooner or later) keeps up the excitement.

Cool. I hope it's not just, like, Animal Crossing, which I know my younger daughter would be into but I just don't care about.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 14:56 (six years ago) link
I've learned I can't concentrate on more than one game at a time, and I guess I'll be playing Zelda for the next quadrillion months, so it's all fine with me.
Definitely picking up Dark Souls as I've heard it mentioned so often in reference to BOTW. But generally all I want is HD remasters of old Zeldas and, I dunno, a Red Dead Redemption port
― Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 15:01 (six years ago) link
BTW, was having a technical issue with my Switch that took almost two-hours (!) to resolve on the phone with Nintendo Customer Service, but they were sooooooo nice and patient and fun to talk with. The second guy they forwarded me to after a while, he and I just talked Celeste for a few minutes.
