Question from someone who followed the english premier league/english football until around 2006 (as a bandwagon Arsenal fan) do people care about the FA Cup anymore?

There's an article on the guardian titled 'Zombified Arsenal are no longer brutally in love with idea of winning' and another one called 'Arsenal’s decade-long capitulation'. From memory, any club that has won the fa cup 3 times out of the last 4 years should be seen as a great success and yet the media seems to pile on because they are not in the top 5 and just lost the league cup final. 3 FA Cups in 4 years isn't that the kind of glory english football was all about until even the early aughts? If Bordeaux ever does that in the next 10 years, win 3 Coupe de France in 4 years, oh boy sign me in.

It's a consolation prize that doesn't offer much consolation nowadays. I do think it's changed the last 10/15 years and has become way less important. It's all about the PL, CL bullshit. Gotta shine on the biggest stage/make the biggest bucks.

Of course it also depends on the club. If Huddersfield win 3 out of 4 FA Cups they are all time legends (and we will have a berserk Calzino on our boards, which I'd welcome!). But for the clubs competing for CL, FA don't mean shit.

early 00s was the period when the FA Cup lost a lot of its mystique I would say, in part because Man Utd won it and then didn't play in it the following season

Arsenal's three recent cups have also been obvious cases of papering over the cracks, more so than for other teams who've been successful in the competition in the last few decades

i am extremely gammon about the devaluation of the FA cup. League cups I can really take or leave, they're community shieldesque baubles but can throw up some interesting ties. But I love giant-killings and cup final day.
