wasn't sure disco edits were allowed here, but anyway I just missed out on the latest Persie Edits 12" (005). Oh well

this one's still my favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNp1PnfWQD0

Re the Scopex compilation - it's terrific and I'd never even heard of this label until I saw the review on RA.

(I don't know all that much about any electro that isn't Drexciya or one of their various side projects)

paolo, Monday, 5 March 2018 17:57 (six years ago) link

those persie edits are fucking hard to get a hold of

i was trying to get the "oye como va" one, lol good luck to me!

not implying you should keep the edits off this thread but here are a couple threads on the topic

Disco Edits S/D

BEARDO DISCO (finally fixed for vahid) - not idjuts / lindstrom - harvey, rub'n'tug, map of africa

Mark E, The Revenge & Slow-Motion House/Disco

Post whatever you like that has a good emotion! Demarcation is for bureaucrats and pedants heres the new one from Henry Hyde, it has a spring in its step and and eye for goal!

Lanark Artefax - Touch Absence (Intimidating Stillness Mix), I hadn't heard this before. Apparently was a limited edition dubplate, now reissued by Whities on their latest 12.

Niiice.

I really like the SHYBOI RA mix, I was a little surprised that it's so four-on-the-floor (and I'm not a techno person myself), but the sheer energy is definitely the vibe I'm looking for.

Nice wee bit of deep house, EP comes with a couple of nice wee bits of Balearic/disco type stuff

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Map37bJ0X5c

New Levon Vincent. Not all that different from old Levon Vincent but still good if you're into that

paolo, Tuesday, 13 March 2018 21:56 (six years ago) link

Those Tessela and Lanark Artefax tracks are terrific. I've not really gotten the hype around LA, the tracks I've heard have been a bit too IDMish. That one's my favourite by far

paolo, Tuesday, 13 March 2018 21:59 (six years ago) link

paolo the one that isn't Levon Vincent isn't showing, what is it?

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 13 March 2018 23:44 (six years ago) link

Hundres Times by Peggy Gou. Dunno why it isn't showing

paolo, Wednesday, 14 March 2018 09:13 (six years ago) link

Found this on Johnny Fever's 2018 faves Spotify list, pretty nice release on Kompakt.

Not sure if it was posted somewhere else...

That one is just outrageous, the last ten minutes are especially, gloriously, shameless.

Matt DC, Thursday, 15 March 2018 22:05 (six years ago) link

wack

the late great, Thursday, 15 March 2018 23:14 (six years ago) link

that shyboi mix is a nice treat. coincidentally i got my new DISCWOMAN tee in the mail last week after wearing out my first one. if anyone here is in NY, try to catch them at the bossa nova civic club. their nights are good fun.

davey, Friday, 16 March 2018 10:49 (six years ago) link

xp it's wack but OTOH the stinkier the cheese, the tastier, sometimes P:

i mean did you hear the DJ bus replacement service mix, yowza

davey, Friday, 16 March 2018 10:52 (six years ago) link

Is it wack because the selections are too obvious/rinsed, or what?

For the haters, this mix is stunning imo: https://soundcloud.com/djshyboi/community-praise-and-worship-night

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 16 March 2018 16:18 (six years ago) link

yeah that’s exactly my complaint with it, obvious selections + just kind of amateurish mixing

Nice feature on Lizz in xlr8r, surprisingly long interview!

and then this:)

I'm reading that Tzusing XLR8R piece, I like his stuff a lot. This track from the recent Discwoman charity comp is great, even played it out last weekend: https://physicallysick2.bandcamp.com/track/cubicle

Are people not feeling Will Long? I think I had previously heard his name via the Sprinkles association but that's about it. I listened to Long Trax II today and while I get why some might call bullshit / naked emperor on this--what he does is really very simple--I sorta love it anyway?

Paul Ponzi, Monday, 19 March 2018 22:40 (six years ago) link

I bought that Long / Sprinkles double CD, it is some of my favorite music, not sure if I prefer w/ or wo overdubs but yeah, v v simple, v effective

niels, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 19:29 (six years ago) link

I love Will Long for his Celer work, have done so for nearly 15 years. I really liked his teaming up with Sprinkles, but Long's new album is just very off-putting, sadly. Pitchfork hit the nail on the head the other day. The gratuitous use of Obama samples, and appropriating along the way by using "black voices" with a result that just isn't up to speed... It's a big fail, the new one. One to forget.

Google Atheist (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 20 March 2018 19:33 (six years ago) link

the gratuitous use of Obama samples, and appropriating along the way by using "black voices"

he does this on the first Long Trax release too, though

I'd definitely prefer all of these tracks without the vocal samples, but mostly because their presence makes it harder to zone out

But otherwise this is the even more minimal version of Seidensticker's Scribbled I have always wanted

Glad you like it! He's a Chicago person I recently became aware of through a mutual friend, the previous EP is amazing and essentially no one has heard it:

normally roll my eyes @ p4k and this type of writing but this one gets it right

"Bristol’s Batu is an ambassador of an emerging strain of UK techno that prizes steely textures and linear shapes to an almost psychedelic degree. In this unabashedly peak-time set, recorded on a February night between 5 and 7 a.m., Batu wields that aesthetic like a corkscrew, molding repetitive drum patterns into long, fluid lines that drive cleanly and relentlessly forward. It’s a style of mixing that allows him to drop some pretty mammoth bangers without ever bashing his listeners over the head with them. And when he does diverge from the rolling, four-to-the-floor pulse, the explosions of broken beats sound all the more earth-shattering."
