I am getting stressed out thinking about it. It was the worst job I have ever had because AA was so inept. I had a meltdown at one store in Miami because everyone who worked for AA was completely useless and would show up half a day late to any meeting. Even 6 months after I quit I was still getting calls from contractors who hadn't been paid who hoped I could help get them their money.

(XP) If you haven’t already come across it, Sali Hughes’ rosacea advice is here: https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2015/aug/29/rosacea-treatments-that-work-sali-hughes

As previously mentioned by others, her recommendations are always worth investigating.

Yerac, AA was the first thing I thought of with regard to this but I forgot to mention it in my post!

this doesn't surprise me one bit, Y.

regardless of that, I agree with you about getting estee to run things. And it would be a huge plus for them since, who actually cares about estee, as a brand, who's under, like, 55 but i'm pretty sure they have logistics down.

I got the Alpha Lipoic Acid from there and it smells like toasting bread when I put it on. I am like, "am I dying?"

Yerac, Thursday, 8 March 2018 12:28 (six years ago) link

I like the smell but I think of it more as burning wires from an electrical appliance that's about to blow.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Thursday, 8 March 2018 13:24 (six years ago) link

I've been making my spouse use it and I probably should've warned him first.

Yerac, Thursday, 8 March 2018 13:38 (six years ago) link

Just went to the dermatologist for my follow up. He thinks my rosacea is under control. Now he wants to blast off my dark spots. Has anyone had this done? We started with one to see how my skin would react.

Virginia Plain, Monday, 12 March 2018 15:52 (six years ago) link

Oh I also binged The Sinner, since it was on Dutch Netflix. So fucking weird, especially the creepy incest scene. Don’t think I’d recommend it. The coincidences were just too much.

What did your derm use to blast off the spots?

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 12 March 2018 23:20 (six years ago) link

i want a spot blasting! what kind of $$$$ does that cost?

IPL?

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Friday, 16 March 2018 01:44 (six years ago) link

I believe it was liquid nitrogen--came in a canister with a spout. We didn't talk about cost, he just offered it at the end of the session.

He said that the spot would turn darker, then crusty, then flake off. At this point, it is just much darker, not crusty at all. Not sure if it is working.

Virginia Plain, Friday, 16 March 2018 15:11 (six years ago) link

two weeks pass...

ordinary pros: Release of a new version of the buffet next wednesday with the addition of copper peptides in the solution! Also a new product - Sea Buckthorn oil, which is good for psoriasis, eczema and rosacia.

ordinary cons: Brandon Truaxe's escalation towards complete meltdown.

I am reading up on this now. I wonder what his deal is, or if that's just him.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 April 2018 23:55 (six years ago) link

I like how he offered $20k in products to the one girl who he screencapped her private account. Maybe he just likes to get wasted and troll online like most of the world.

The Ordinary guy fired his co CEO - her interview here shows how fucking smart this woman is: it’s less an interview and more the perfect cover letter to every high level position in every big-deal up-and-coming beauty company

Truaxe reminds me a bit of Sheela from Wild, Wild Country

just1n3, Monday, 9 April 2018 08:31 (six years ago) link

Started with some 10% glycolic overnight stuff and waiting impatiently for benefits to manifest.

Jaq, Monday, 9 April 2018 15:46 (six years ago) link

So the liquid nitrogen didn’t work—my test spot got darker and then just got lighter again (it was supposed to get dark then crusty then fall off). The dermatologist is giving me some cream fro lighten dark spots and recommends a chemical peel. Has anyone ever done this? It’s not covered by insurance and I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

Virginia Plain, Monday, 9 April 2018 22:07 (six years ago) link

VP, are your dark spots from the sun? I was thinking of trying Skin Laundry when I am back in town.

Yerac, Monday, 9 April 2018 22:12 (six years ago) link

This Deciem thing is waaaay beyond the pale.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Monday, 9 April 2018 22:48 (six years ago) link

It’s nuts! I hope Truaxe has family who can step in. IANAD but it seems like he’s exhibiting classic signs of a psychotic break or bipolar episode? Someone needs to get him medical help before things get any worse.

just1n3, Monday, 9 April 2018 23:01 (six years ago) link

I was thinking about ordering some stuff right as I found out about the drama so now I’m too nervous to place an order.

just1n3, Monday, 9 April 2018 23:02 (six years ago) link

i know what you mean.

re: psychosis, it's definitely evident. i've posted some weird shit online when i've been drunk and seriously regretted it but he doesn't seem like a drinker.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Monday, 9 April 2018 23:06 (six years ago) link

It looks like he admits in interviews to not getting along with former partners, having ADD and talking a lot. Where did he get the money to start this line anyway?

Yerac, Tuesday, 10 April 2018 00:05 (six years ago) link

I've no idea but I'm glad he did. I feel pretty happy when I look in the mirror atm and that's absolutely down to The Ordinary. I just hope the company can weather this.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Tuesday, 10 April 2018 00:11 (six years ago) link

Oh, I totally like the things that I have gotten so far. Although, I've been very lazy about keeping up a routine and need to restart it because I definitely saw improvement. I was using the niacinimide+zinc in the morning and then alternating between the lactic acid 10%, absorbyl glucoside or alpha lipoic acid at night. I know I could layer more, but I've only been using one at a time under moisturizer. I have the big bottle of Hyaluronic acid from The Chemistry Brand but I've only been using that randomly on body parts.

Yerac, Tuesday, 10 April 2018 00:17 (six years ago) link

The alpha-lipoic acid is just the best.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Tuesday, 10 April 2018 00:30 (six years ago) link

It is the best. I know for sure I will buy that again because my skin looks noticeably better the next day when I use it. I like the other things I got but may try something new. I had been going by the below site regarding what to buy since it broke down the ingredients in a way I could follow. I think that is why I didn't get the Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F because of what it said, but I might pick it up anyway next time since you love it so much.

"but I might pick it up anyway next time since you love it so much."

I may slightly backtrack on that. one or two people mentioned that I was looking very red after using that but it might have been the booze :)

two weeks pass...

some of my current skincare is running low so i finally ordered some stuff from The Ordinary -
- the glycolic acid toner
- virgin marula oil
- alpha arbutin stuff

looks like there are big delays in shipping thought, so it might be a few weeks before i get it

just1n3, Tuesday, 8 May 2018 00:46 (five years ago) link

The buffet with copper peptides is goooooooood. get on that.

Britain's Sexiest Cow (jed_), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 00:32 (five years ago) link

Oooh I’m about to place another order so I’ll add that!

I actually got my last order reasonably fast - faster than I expected. I haven’t used the glycolic acid yet (using up my regular AHA first) but I think the alpha arbutin has evened out my skin tone at least a little? Idk but it seems better most days.

Don’t have much of an opinion on the marula oil- I think I prefer rose hip seed oil instead.

I want to get a vit c serum this time.

just1n3, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 00:46 (five years ago) link

i really like the ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate (lol) for vit c. although they brought out some new vit c's recently which i haven't tried and may well be better.

Britain's Sexiest Cow (jed_), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 00:51 (five years ago) link

Yeah there’s a shit ton on there and I’m having trouble choosing which one

just1n3, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 01:01 (five years ago) link

fwiw, i like the one i mentioned because it's an oil but it is super-dry, so light. even though it's an oil it doesn't feel the least bit oily or claggy.

Britain's Sexiest Cow (jed_), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 01:07 (five years ago) link

it's more on the expensive end of what they do though. as is the copper buffet.

Britain's Sexiest Cow (jed_), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 01:09 (five years ago) link

fwiw, someone other than brandon seems to have taken over their social media presence and i've noticed that people asking on insta get fast replies so if you're on insta then ask there. I'm not on it, i just lurk.

do any of you use julep? it’s a a spinoff from a nail salon in seattle that has a monthly box thing. the face cleanser stick is the best thing i’ve bought for that purpose in years, and their three step sheet/sleep mask makes my skin glow. and their lipsticks are wonderful.

i have a referral code if anyone wants.

maura, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:50 (five years ago) link

julep dot com

also a dispensary around here sells weed face serum...

maura, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 13:50 (five years ago) link

I got some Julep polishes and I loved their colors but the brushes were huge and fluffy and it was hard to apply neatly. Haven't tried their other prods.

one month passes...

I was going to do an Ordinary order (I see they left Sephora) and was looking at the copper buffet. Wow, that is a big jump ($41.90!) from the normal pricepoints. Is it worth it?

Yerac, Tuesday, 7 August 2018 15:43 (five years ago) link

It's hard to tell, isn't it? I mean I can feel okay or feel repulsed by my reflection on consecutive days and I know that that's MY BRANE and nothing to do with skincare products.

However, I did go through a week or so of telling everyone who would care that they should splurge on this. But then i semi-spurged on the Hylamide Anti Age and I can't tell the difference between what the copper buffet was doing and what the hylamide AA is doing and the latter is currently selling for a drastically reduced price (prices vary depending on your territory).

What did you go for, Yerac?

Britain's Sexiest Cow (jed_), Monday, 13 August 2018 22:04 (five years ago) link

fwiw, they are ceasing to sell the Hylamide range to third party sellers and are in the process of reducing the prices on that range to reflect that fact that around 40% of the sale price went to the 3rd party. The Hylamide AA went from £30 to £18 and will stay at around that price if I have that right.
