A Momentum spokesperson said: "The only 'great fraud' are the suggestions that Momentum members don't believe in parliamentary democracy or tell the Leader of the Labour party what to do. The Gang of Four our members prefer is the post-punk pride of Leeds."

"the gang of four our members (correctly) prefer are jiang qing, zhang chunqiao, yao wenyuan and wang hongwen"

how is corbz team so good at this

||||||||, Friday, 9 March 2018 16:30 (six years ago) link

i guess they have the confidence of knowing that corbyn can get away with a level of informality in official communications that more hidebound politicians can't - feels like they've been testing the waters for a while now and they now feel able to go full dgaf when the criticism they're responding to warrants it

mcdonnell good this morning on today imo

kept prefacing things with "as we move into government" - not subtle but it's necessary

I'm too busy trying to figure out whereabouts in Islington the photo accompanying the article was taken.

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Monday, 12 March 2018 12:22 (six years ago) link

Though it probably isn't Islington.

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Monday, 12 March 2018 12:24 (six years ago) link

Myddleton Square, maybe?

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Monday, 12 March 2018 12:26 (six years ago) link

No, good guess though.

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Monday, 12 March 2018 12:27 (six years ago) link

Second guess would be Highbury Place though the band of white across the top might not be right.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Monday, 12 March 2018 12:29 (six years ago) link

My initial thought was it was around the corner from Mark S - but no. There are a fair few little squares though.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 12 March 2018 12:29 (six years ago) link

Bit of detective work tells me it's Milner Square.

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Monday, 12 March 2018 12:34 (six years ago) link

They've painted that door then - probably to throw off tourists.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 12 March 2018 12:38 (six years ago) link

The report coming out at the same time as data showing that high-end rentals are increasing possibly suggests that a lot of the financial sector ppl who had been driving the property boom are hedging their bets for now.

my guess wd have been gibson square -- famous for being the start or end point of the first route you learn in THE KNOWLEDGE, the map that london cabbies had to internalise -- which is one south from milner

(the upper layer of windows is wrong for gibson tho)

Suspect package is understood to have been sent to Mohammad Yasin, Labour MP for Bedford. Police thought to be concerned it is linked to a series of recent threatening letters to Muslims. Two taken to hospital as a precaution

i know it's funny but i find it pretty depressing. these are intelligent people and they're totally in the shouty hysterical meme bubble. i can't even understand people on the left with this weird defensiveness about Putin and RT and the rest, "my enemy's enemy" taken to this insane paranoid bullshit mirror-image of the alt right level. i like my friends but i think i'm gonna have to block about 6 people's posts from ever being visible again.

as the crows around me grows (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 14 March 2018 08:33 (six years ago) link

I was thinking this might allow May to look strong for a couple of news cycles, and then with all sorts of potentially damaging risk and uncertainty as it unfolds. Especially with May's track record of being such a dynamic leader and the possibility of more intra-party squabbling over the response. A total zed minus of a false flag conspiracy then.

Yeah, it's a real cause for concern. I mentioned previously on this thread that a lot of ppl my age who're naive w/ good leftist tendencies have fallen for RT's Brave Critics of the West shtick and are now p much indoctrinated (Sharivari I believe made the point that RT hasn't been overtly pro-Putin for a while and I certainly don't check it enough to deny that - but ppl who read a lot of it do seem to invariably come out of it with a "yay putin" mindset).

Re the recent Putin doc, if this does not put those segments of the hard left off him, I’m not sure what will:

Having watched the whole thing, can report that it is worth watching if only for Jack Straw saying that Blair and Putin got on well because they’re so similar. https://t.co/K1q2YzpEZT

I get the impulse to highlight atrocities committed by Our Guys because they're less in the public conciousness but when your reaction to any nasty shit not done by the USA/UK is to whataboutery you're no longer helping anything.

You'd think the fact that they're cheering for the same guy the alt-right cheers for would be some cause for reflection but nah.
