mr. trump is a civil rights activist, bringing porn stars to network television, when before the *fake news* shunned the poor stormy danielses of the world. #WWFWCWMRGA nikolai volkoff the iron shiek

mr. trump is a genius, banging a porn star and then rubbing christian evangelicals' noses in it. MAGA!

reggie (qualmsley), Monday, 26 March 2018 16:46 (six years ago) link

https://www.thecut.com/2018/03/stormy-danielss-60-minutes-interview-was-actually-brilliant.html

[ The conversation] started off all about him just talking about himself: And he’s like, ‘Have you seen my new magazine?’ … And so I was like, “Does this normally work for you? … does just … talking about yourself normally work? … Someone should take that magazine and spank you with it. … And I’ll never forget the look on his face … I was like, ‘turn around, drop ‘em.’ … I just gave him a couple swats. and from that moment on, he was a completely different person. He quit talking about himself and he asked me things … it just became … more appropriate.

According to this, Daniels was able to achieve the impossible: she broke through Trump’s delusional solipsism, literally slapping him into awareness of another person. And she did it by refusing to play along with his self-vaunting monologue. By questioning the effectiveness of Trump’s boasting, she stopped it. We can all learn from this.

We can all learn from this.

OK. I'd be more than willing to swat him a few times.

Me, too, but with a pool ball in a sock, or a lock on a chain.

two weeks pass...

Cohen: Boy, I now wish Trump had not won the election.

Flynn: My life would be a lot better if Trump actually lost the election.

Manafort: I know I wanted Trump to win the election, but now I truly wish that he hadn't.

Ivanka: Gosh, maybe daddy winning the election was not a good thing after all.

Jared: My F-I-L winning the election has been a 666 type of hell for me.

Don Jr: I hate the fact that my dad won the election. This sucks ass.

Eric: I'm Eric.

Melania: My life would have sucked with him either winning or losing the election, so I don't give a fuck.

RNC: Trump is bringing our whole party down with him. It was so much easier being the party of 'NO'.

Trump: I'm so glad I won the election. Best thing ever. GOP! GOP!!

reggie (qualmsley), Monday, 23 April 2018 20:12 (five years ago) link

Eric: I'm Eric.

LOL

RNC: Trump is bringing our whole party down with him. It was so much easier being the party of 'NO'.

Beyond the torrent of heels taking early retirement, do we think this is the GOP's take on Trump?

When the political system is widely seen as doing its job, somebody like Trump, who violates its basic norms, is seen as illegitimate. A politician who blatantly lies doesn’t stand a chance. But this changes when more and more people come to believe that the system is rigged and that most politicians don’t have their best interests in mind. Amid such a “crisis of legitimacy,” voters don’t particularly care whether a politician plays by the rules of the game. Instead, they long for somebody who bluntly states how rotten the system really is.

some other bullshit follows, and mostly it boils down to humans are pack animals, and never forget it or you'll pay. but there is a situation where we aren't quite so bad: when we work together. which is the other thing pack animals do well.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 25 April 2018 04:08 (five years ago) link

The argument that Trump won because enough people believe that the system is rigged falls down on one point: Everyone hated Hillary Clinton for doing the exact same thing. So, what, Democratic voters don't think the system is rigged?

The thing is, of course, that Trump voters do think the system is rigged, but in a very specific way: It helps black people, which is not what it is supposed to do. That is the way in which it isn't doing it's job.

flappy bird, Friday, 27 April 2018 16:54 (five years ago) link

i mean it seems like it's all theater and the north will invade the south in 3 months or something but this will still be perceived as classic rather than dud by trump supporters and ken bone types

if the peace lasts long enough for a nobel prize to be handed out, the next trump narrative will be how unfairly he was treated by not being given the prize. 'obama got the nobel prize for nothing and i was treated so unfairly wah wah wah', etc

WATCH: During an event with Team USA Olympians and Paralympians at the White House, President Trump said, "What happened with the Paralympics was so incredible and so inspiring to me. I think he's just saying that it's difficult for him to spend an extended period of time focused on people who aren't named Donald Trump or at least talking about Donald Trump. The Paralympians are inspiring, but I think they'd be even moreso if they wore t-shirts with Donald Trump's face on them and chanted 'Donald Trump! Donald Trump!' while they're engaged in whatever non-Donald Trump-related activity they're engaging in.

Frank Rich on how the same NYC "elites" empowered Roy Cohn and Trump:

Simon H., Tuesday, 1 May 2018 15:43 (five years ago) link

I saw the hate speech question all over my kid's elementary school pta Facebook page anout an hour ago. I think it's just something they're doing today.

how's life, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 15:48 (five years ago) link

Please tell me this is the extent of Facebook's efforts to monitor for hate speech. It's like a manager who just stays home and emails their employees every day with a 'are you working, y/n'.

a REAL SCARIE robot!!!! (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 15:54 (five years ago) link

if there's one thing facebook users are good at it's being able to know hate speech when they see it, and to consciously decide to take steps to stop spreading it

thanks facebook!
