I'd never heard of them before today tbh. Good job Liz Truss has her finger pulse/is down with kids.

Conservative commitment to the ratio remains strong.

Deliveroo stole my favourite pizza takeaway (Bianco43, which I'm confident is the one Matt's talking about). It delivered to outer Charlton in the Just Eat days but now it's just the mean streets of Blackheath

Ditto.

the idle deliveroo driver is a fixture of british cities these days

you must have seen them. they ride bikes and have 18" cube backpacks.

there are so many of their bikers zipping carelessly around glasgow at the moment that i'm probably going to be killed by one sometime in the next six months

they don't kill in your area.

WE'LL SEE ABOUT THAT

Bianco43, which I'm confident is the one Matt's talking about

Bingo. TBH it's not worth bothering with compared to the vastly superior delights of Luciano's Pizza in Lee but they're probably out of your catchment area.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 16:39 (six years ago) link

they're 3m walk from my parents' - you'd better believe I've eaten there!

imago, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 16:45 (six years ago) link

I have a fr*end who used to work for Deliveroo, helped the push to get them unionized and stuff. He told me once he got an order from some banker type in Canary Wharf who ordered kebabs from a bog standard shop that was as far away from him as the service permitted. Nostalgia for the South London street he'd left behind, genuine sadism or just someone who doesn't know how to use the app?

Two Labour councillors in Nottinghamshire have quit the party and joined the Conservatives.

Chris Baron and Lee Anderson, both Ashfield district councillors, blamed campaign group Momentum for their decision to defect to the Tories. Mr Baron previously lead the Labour-run authority while Mr Anderson worked for Ashfield's Labour MP, Gloria De Piero.

Are they so out of touch? Yes it's the children who are right.

nashwan, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 21:04 (six years ago) link

My word, they couldn't even be bothered with the figleaf of joining the LibDems and just let it all hang out instead.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 21:07 (six years ago) link

If I was Vince Cable I'd be furious.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 21:08 (six years ago) link

They sound like a right pair of charmers.

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 March 2018 21:12 (six years ago) link

Good work, Momentum!

The pair were among more than 600 Labour councillors across the country who called on Mr Corbyn to stand down as leader of the party in 2016.

Mr Baron - who was suspended in 2016 for poor attendance at council meetings - now sits with the Conservative group on Ashfield District Council.

He said: "It is disappointing for me after over 30 years in the Labour Party, but the Labour Party is not the Labour Party I joined."

Mr Anderson, who was handed a four-month suspension when he hired a digger and placed concrete blocks to stop travellers illegally camping in a car park, said: "The Labour Party has been taken over by the hard-left and Momentum in particular and I will play no part in that.

"It's been a very difficult decision to come to."

Ms De Piero thanked Mr Anderson, who was her office manager, but added: "If he has had a political change of heart and decided to leave the Labour Party and join the Conservatives, that's a matter entirely for him."

can labour afford 2 lose good ppl like this

Mark G, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 21:15 (six years ago) link

I've heard unsubstantiated reports that both were not being reselected by their CLP and were under investigation due to "irregularities", which may have something to do with this otherwise entirely principled and non-opportunistic stand.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 21:23 (six years ago) link

lol, these ppl are pure joke, far funnier than any comedians.

calzino, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 21:32 (six years ago) link

Talk about dead wood.

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 March 2018 22:07 (six years ago) link

at least when some of the new intake of Momentum backed councillors end up being more bent than a £9 note, through slow indoctrination or apathy. I won't be remotely disappointed or shocked, because I have never met one of them worth shit in 40 odd years tbh. Probably slightly negative here, but some of squawky triumphalist shit on twitter does my fucking box in.

"Havering resembling boroughs like Hackney, Newham, Camden and Barking, rather than a traditional part of Essex" - I'm still a bit too new to this place to be sure, so natives help me out: is this a racist dogwhistle?

Daniel_Rf, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 23:15 (six years ago) link

100% I'd say, without knowing the area.

calzino, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 23:16 (six years ago) link

oops, I possibly missed your sarcasm!

calzino, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 23:17 (six years ago) link

Noting that in 1971 Havering had around 250,000 people in it. Steadily dwindled since then (actually a bit surprised by that) and has only returned to around the same level now. Still around 90% white though.

nashwan, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 23:20 (six years ago) link

Havering is fucking batshit, they were talking about seeding from London a while back.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 23:21 (six years ago) link

Seceding.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 23:22 (six years ago) link

No wavering in Havering when it comes to the May local elections for the Tories, but they are in a shitload trouble everywhere else.

calzino, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 23:27 (six years ago) link

oops, I possibly missed your sarcasm!

Haha I was 99% sure but didn't want to make assumptions about the racial make-up of Havering. Seems I could've assumed away!

Daniel_Rf, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 23:31 (six years ago) link

Think Daniel has had his answer, but just want to point out that the local MP was responsible for this quote about passport colour:

The humiliation of having a pink European Union passport will now soon be over and the United Kingdom nationals can once again feel pride and self-confidence in their own nationality when travelling, just as the Swiss and Americans can do.

National identity matters and there is no better way of demonstrating this today than by bringing back this much-loved national symbol when travelling overseas.

gyac, Tuesday, 20 March 2018 23:44 (six years ago) link

the real salient issue about passports in some areas is that many people that don't possess one have been struggling to eat because UC will impede applications to those that don't have them.

calzino, Wednesday, 21 March 2018 00:09 (six years ago) link

and I'm not making this shit up, one of my local MP's Tracy Brabin (yes, the ex-Corrie one!) got very angry about this recently.
