j/k
so many great songs but turning YES into a hit machine (or at least *being* there for it) is a feat rarely rivaled
― mookieproof, Thursday, 22 March 2018 01:14 (six years ago) link
Relax or Crazy, have to go with Frankie as the song was way over my head as a young pup.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 22 March 2018 01:16 (six years ago) link
OWNER of a LONELY HEART is really terrific. i love so many of these that i's rule out only because there are other betters versions of the same track than the particular one listed here.

Left To My Own Devices. The long LP mix is as good as anything gets. Introspective is still one of the truly great sounding records too, absolutely luxurious.
― piscesx, Thursday, 22 March 2018 01:47 (six years ago) link
Surprising that Dollar's Hand Held In Black And White isn't featured, that was the 45 which got him the ABC gig.

This was same duo doing battle for my own vote, but I went with Crazy.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 March 2018 02:05 (six years ago) link
The Power Of Love is a strong contender
― DJ U OK Hun? (jed_), Thursday, 22 March 2018 02:06 (six years ago) link
you could also go "The Power Of Love" or "Loneliest Star." Frankie Goes To Hollywood again.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 22 March 2018 02:10 (six years ago) link
Wow, I love a ton of this stuff but will always vote for "Video Killed The Radio Star". An impeccable melding of past and future.
― Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 22 March 2018 02:25 (six years ago) link
hard to imagine an ILM that doesn't pick 'slave to the rhythm (blooded)' -- or maybe 'relax'
― mookieproof, Thursday, 22 March 2018 02:28 (six years ago) link
should Eric and I get bored enough to get married, Miguel's "Adorn," FGTH's "Power of Love," or Tom Cochrane's "Life is a Highway" will score our dance.

Holy shit such a list. Def not be the best song here imo, but Beat Box seemed momentous.
― Hunt3r, Thursday, 22 March 2018 12:08 (six years ago) link
Song-wise, Poison Arrow I think.

― Matt DC, Thursday, 22 March 2018 13:56 (six years ago) link
i think "Slave to the Rhythm" is probably my fave of these but there are a lot of bangers in amongst the stuff that i never need to hear ever again

wait so all these were on an actual retail compilation together? I'm surprised it was possible to line up the rights for something like that. Get 'Leave it' on there and it'd me p much perfect.

very boring cover art.but brilliant compilation.still figuring out my choice.could be any of two tribes, mabuse, poison arrow, moments in love, owner of lonely heart, buffalo girls, or slave to rhythm ..

I feel like I should go for one of the ABC singles, as The Lexicon Of Love is my favourite album ever, but there's so many masterpieces to choose from. Both the Buggles songs are incredible songs with some of the best production I've ever heard (their two albums are so good), the Frankie singles are still as thrilling as ever and Left To Own Devices is my second favourite song by my favourite band. Then there's Moments In Love, Mirror Mirror, All The Things She Said and Slave To The Rhythm which are all 10/10 singles. Really tough call.
― kitchen person, Friday, 23 March 2018 01:16 (six years ago) link
“Look of Love” but close run with the PSB options for me.

― kelp, clam and carrion (sic), Wednesday, 13 June 2018 04:16 (five years ago) link
Not my absolute favourite here (and Beatbox & Mabuse are all time) but I think STTR (Blooded) for the production. Cry is pretty incredible too IIRC.

Went with 'It's Alright.'
I need to dig out all my old Pet Shops Boys records. Haven't given those a good listen in several years.

― Dan Worsley, Thursday, 14 June 2018 06:23 (five years ago) link
OTM, with Crazy being my main exception. Everything on 0 votes was fairly overlooked.

I mean I love YES but no way OOALH is one of his best productions. And the Dollar singles are masterful ( "Videotheque" being my fave).
― An Uphill Battle For Legumes (Capitaine Jay Vee), Thursday, 14 June 2018 18:12 (five years ago) link
I mean I love YES but no way OOALH is one of his best productions.
especially when you see how many votes Two Tribes (Hibakusha Mix) got which is probably one of the best 12" singles ever.
― mark e, Thursday, 14 June 2018 18:20 (five years ago) link
Hibakusha was kind of elusive at the time (3,000 copies?) so had an aura but really it's not better than Annihilation (or even Carnage) despite the fun Linn / Fairlight freakout bit.
― Absolute Unit Delta Plus (Noel Emits), Thursday, 14 June 2018 18:50 (five years ago) link
point taken.I do prefer the Annihilation mix as well tbh.
