Me and Andrew are heading into Glasgow just now. Will be in Bar 91 for 6, though could be earlier if needed. Text me if any changes of plan.

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 21 October 2007 12:03 (sixteen years ago) link

so glad i came out last night, had a superb time too - glasgow ilxors always make ppl feel welcome, and it was wicked to meet new ppl, just sorry i didn't get a chance to talk to chris and hayley for longer.
not being much of a boozehound i am v. much feeling the effects of four pints of blanc drunk rather too quickly, apols if i got slightly incoherent/sweary - today i'm staying in feeling sorry for my poor aching head

EVERYBODY SHOULD COME TO BOREDOMS AT THE ARCHES ON TUESDAY

Ward Fowler, Sunday, 21 October 2007 12:18 (sixteen years ago) link

i will very much try to do that.

apols if i got slightly incoherent/sweary

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 21 October 2007 12:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I would very much like that also, but I think I'm broken. Will attempt to recover for monkeyfap next week. Top night, all.

RJG, Sunday, 21 October 2007 21:03 (sixteen years ago) link

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 23:32 (sixteen years ago) link

you didn't miss anything, it was a tub of shite.

jed_, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 00:09 (sixteen years ago) link

oh jed

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 06:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Glasgow: I will not now be trying you this weekend - I've been redeployed to NYC instead. See you soon, though.

Stevie T, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 07:07 (sixteen years ago) link

lol i just had my shower and was still brooding on jed's diss cos i totally thought this was the best ive ever seen boredoms, they went flat out right from the start, more aggressive, louder, more hardcore than before - friend i went with, who had never seen them before, was also raving afterwards - different strokes i guess but wld love to hear jed's objections (poor old M Gira really suffered from bar chat overspill during his set)

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 07:08 (sixteen years ago) link

why is this thread always just revived whereas threads of lesser magnitude are replaced by new ones with numbers on the end?

Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 08:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Because we are hard.

Alba, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 09:41 (sixteen years ago) link

jed_, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 10:13 (sixteen years ago) link

I heard a rumour of Accentmonkey: is it true?

Madchen, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 13:05 (sixteen years ago) link

oh jed, were you telling grimly boredoms were shite to making him feel better abt missing em? my irony detector always seems to go on the blink when I'm on ILX

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 13:16 (sixteen years ago) link

"to make him"

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 13:17 (sixteen years ago) link

i'm in a training course today being run by a dude who's a huge fan of japanese psych-rock antics. i know he was going last night, too. i haven't yet asked: "what did i miss?"

curses.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 13:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I heard a rumour of Accentmonkey: is it true?

Yes, West Beer, Saturday, 5-ish, I think (unless it gets MONOed).

onimo, Thursday, 25 October 2007 15:51 (sixteen years ago) link

not by me, it won't: i'll be away. curses and indeed boo. say hello to accentmonkey for me, dudes: she appears to rock, and i'm annoyed i won't be about to test that hypothesis.

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 25 October 2007 22:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Who is the other person?

Madchen, Friday, 26 October 2007 14:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, I have just found out the answer. Hoping it's senior and not junior, otherwise bye bye yet another crush of my youth (Tim Burgess fell away last night).

EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) — Sixties pop singer Donovan and cult film director David Lynch unveiled plans Friday for a new university in Scotland, where students will learn regular subjects while adhering to the principles of twice-daily transcendental meditation.
Donovan, whose hits include "Hurdy Gurdy Man" and "Mellow Yellow," announced he will open the Invincible Donovan University in either Glasgow or Edinburgh, bringing the hippy dream of world peace to his home country of Scotland.
The singer was joined by Lynch, an equally unlikely academic who directed film classics like "Blue Velvet" and the television show "Twin Peaks." The pair are part of a British tour to promote transcendental meditation, or TM, as a means of reducing violence, crime and stress in schools and colleges.

stet, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:25 (sixteen years ago) link

ah, TM.

grimly fiendish, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:32 (sixteen years ago) link

i was, for about two days, a PPC for the natural law party for the 1997 election.

i told them my finals were probably more important.

some of what they said contained a fair degree of sense.

some of it was absolutely fucking barking.

TM is a very good technique, which sadly i don't seem to have time to practice more. TS: getting up 20 minutes early, or giving it big Zs.

i should, of course, do it in the evenings, but i was never any good at getting into that habit.

grimly fiendish, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:34 (sixteen years ago) link

practise! not practice. bloody hell, simon.

grimly fiendish, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Hello Glasgow types. It was lovely to see you all last night. I'm sorry if I talked about myself all the time. I do that.

accentmonkey, Sunday, 28 October 2007 11:29 (sixteen years ago) link

You're doing it now :)

Great to meet you all too. Sorry for nerding out on Mr Monkey!

stet, Sunday, 28 October 2007 17:30 (sixteen years ago) link

hello yes, it was very lovely and please apologise again to mr monkey that we vanished off while he was in the loo (we never made the train, but we raced it down the motorway and got them on it at a further away stop!)

ailsa, Monday, 29 October 2007 10:18 (sixteen years ago) link

It was lovely to meet Accentmonkey, Mr Monkey, Brother Monkey and Mrs Brother Monkey. I left West with aching cheeks, which is a sure sign a good time has been had (other sure sign: headache next morning). I invented a new pome, as follows:

Beer then gin & tonic
Feeling chronic

Madchen, Monday, 29 October 2007 16:07 (sixteen years ago) link

lol at "mrs brother monkey" - I already left a message on facebook calling poor L3sl3y "monkey-in-law" :-)

ailsa, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 14:48 (sixteen years ago) link

13th note cafe then?

ken c, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 14:54 (sixteen years ago) link

why not? i've not been in there for ages and have many happy memories of it.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 15:04 (sixteen years ago) link

ah topp

stet, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 15:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Last time I was at the 13th Note, it smelled like a tramp's trousers. I'm working that afternoon, but should be free from about 6pm, I think.
