I know the emotions are real, but it's hard to take someone seriously when they're crying their eyes out with two big Cookie Monster googly eyes on top of their head. I'm sorry to say that I laughed at that.

For one, it’s just unpleasant to watch someone so upset, but furthermore if your sense of validation and worth is tied so deeply to a reality show, you need to adjust something. This is not the be-all end-all, good god, ps if you’re upset that going home so early makes you look bad, carrying on like that makes you look ten times worse squirrelfriend!!!!

Honestly, I haven't gone back to watch earlier seasons in awhile, but if that maxi-challenge wasn't the worst-written, most deeply unfunny waste of time this show's ever forced its contestants to try to enliven, I don't know what. I almost wanted to award Eureka my "condragulations" for not wasting her time learning those words.

I think this is a result of the showing being around so long and having become so popular. Rightly or wrongly, a lot of people (including the contestsants!) see the show as a way to build or reveal their true selves[1], and the way to reach those selves is through crying -- which all the contestants are also aware of. I wonder then that since they know about how the show uses narrative arcs, they all try to trade and engage in it, sometimes too "early" in the show or in inopportune places because they want to capitalize on the narrative platform offered by the show, nor do they want to be left with uncashed chips.

[1] I kind of feel that the bildungsroman format is most often used by shows where the body provides the content of the show or where the show serves as an extended audition or job interview (since Americans tend to tie up their identities so much in our jobs) -- and both strains are obviously present in RPDR.

with Eureka the crying & neediness is like its her factory default setting. she’s such an “interactive” personality, her moods are so dependent on the ppl around her giving approval & acknowledging her every word. she like a toddler in that way & i find it incredibly exhausting. the australian country girl in me just wants to shut it all down

the way she says asia's name in the workroom, like "ay-zhuhhhhhhhh" reminded me of a kid trying to get their mom's attention, also made me feel for her
