Sorry sj - that wasn't really her group, and she has sung backing vocals elsewhere too. Including for the Neville Brothers, with a teenaged Whitney helping out, incidentally. And there was the family band, which I think gave Dionne her start too. I'm after her group that made loads of records - really good ones too.

Billy's guess is wrong too, unsurprisingly, but he gets in first on Q11. As I said, randomly picked by the computer!

If anyone else was looking this stuff up they'd already have given the answer, because it's really easy to find. Obv. if sj or Dom come up with it now they're cheating, and not just working on sweet inspiration. =)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:45 (twenty-one years ago) link

I will give that to Sean - the answer is the Sweet Inspirations, in case the hint is not obvious - and we continue with...

Sean is lightning fast and spot on!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

Martin, I was just joking. It was killing me so I looked it up, felt stupid, got over it.

sj (sinner), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

Lemmy of Motorhead (can't do the umlauts)

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

I better get my points in now, because I'm going to be leaving to run some errands soon and will miss out on the fun!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

I thought you weren't very serious, sj, but I remembered there was the family group, which wasn't what I was after, so used your comment as a hook to point that out.

13. Which TV show theme did the Dickies cover?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

Mr. Anus and Mr. Horribly Charred Infant.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:52 (twenty-one years ago) link

Sean is right - and I'm only guessing that those are not their real names...

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

This is my cue to skidoo. Hopefully this will still be going when I return. Good luck, everyone else!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'll ignore the jibe about my singing

for the time being anyway.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

Right again, Billy. Ah, Sean is giving others a chance to catch up!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 August 2002 14:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

Having these quizzes without me -- and then you ask the question I don't the answer to! *stumbles off crying*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Sorry, Ned - I'm sure you'll know some of them. Obviously this thread is just my attempt to increase my number of posts to your level. I figure another 5,000 questions and I'll be catching you up...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'd point out that with only 15 questions gone, and the top scorer on 5 (and he's wandered off!), someone could come from nowhere to win.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

Then I won't be quite so alone any more. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yes, but if you keep answering me, I won't catch up at all! Actually, take away that first clause - Mark S is the only one who could conceivably catch you.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Okay, question 16 remains open (move away from rock and the answers slow down!), but here's the next one, which will be got instantly...

Marc Bolan, Steve Took, Mickey Finn

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

Can someone tie down Billy? I didn't even get the chance to answer the T. Rex question! ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yeah, I'll take that, though the line-up was really Bolan, Finn, Steve Currie and Bill Legend - I'm not sure that they were ever called T. Rex (rather than Tyrannosaurus Rex) while Took was still there. Still, my pedantry has limits...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ned, that's an offer I can't refuse!

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

Billy is now joint first with Sean, who isn't about.

Moby!

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

You lucky man, Billy. ;-) And yes, it was shortened to T. Rex after Took's departure, but hey.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

Billy is correct again, and takes the lead!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

Answer to number 16, please.

sj (sinner), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

Goddesslike, surely. :-)

No, that was Sandie Shaw

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

Billy is right. So is Ned, technically, but he doesn't get points for that.

Dave Clark Five

sj (sinner), Sunday, 25 August 2002 15:24 (twenty-one years ago) link
