Always nice to see Corbyn being mocked for having gone out with Diane Abbott - no racial undertones there, nope. (Is this a tiny bit libellous given he’s married? Idk.) Not sure the dig about his suit is going to travel well though. If you look up Corbyn on YouTube the top video is the one of him being mocked for his clothes in the 80s.

Sugar otm for the Arsenal verse tbf.

The rhyme scheme doesn’t even reach the dizzying heights of ‘there once was a man from Nantucket’.

Have none of these people learned that Jeremy Corbyn doesn’t do insults or personal attacks? It’s one of the best things about him.

suzy, Thursday, 5 April 2018 13:19 (six years ago) link

There once was a man who didn't do personal insults
So if anyone took him on, they'd probably winsults

It was interesting to hear that Macron has recently paid lip-service to France emptying it's museums of African colonial plunder and unconditionally returning it all. And then Tristam Hunt, who recently on Any Questions declared his undying love for Macron and all he represents, has very different ideas about the UK's colonial plunder at the V+A. Despite the Ethiopian ambassador making some very polite suggestions that it would be the decent thing to do.

thinking that May & Johnson might be right after all

When "absolute proof" becomes "May-be".

Theresa's claims the Salisbury nerve agent attack was 100% Russia's doing is becoming shakier than Boris Yeltsin after ten vodkas.

And unlike Mr Yeltsin, Sergei and Yulia Skripal are still with us. pic.twitter.com/PGvENpVhPC

here's the real tragedy of the skripal poisoning - rip furry friends ;_;

Two guinea pigs belonging to Sergei Skripal died and his cat was put down after the Salisbury nerve agent attack, the government has revealed.

A spokeswoman for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said the dead guinea pigs and a “distressed” cat were discovered when a vet was able to enter Skripal’s home, which had been sealed off during the police investigation. Defra said it believed the guinea pigs had died of thirst.

Does this mean that guinea pigs are immune to military grade nerve agent?

Matt DC, Friday, 6 April 2018 11:04 (six years ago) link

Dunno, but I suspect that the cat knew too much...

Mark G, Friday, 6 April 2018 11:05 (six years ago) link

Can't help thinking they were real targets of this attack, the poisoining of the Skripals was just a red herring.

(xp)

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Friday, 6 April 2018 11:06 (six years ago) link

A lot of noise about why they didn't notice the pets earlier or send a vet, although I'm guessing they can't just send any old local vet onto the scene of a chemical attack.

Matt DC, Friday, 6 April 2018 11:08 (six years ago) link

In the event of chemical attack make sure any guinea pigs are given adequate refreshments.

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Friday, 6 April 2018 11:10 (six years ago) link

in the event of a chemical attack tightly strap a guinea pig over your nose and mouth as an impromptu gas mask

star wars ep viii: the bay of porgs (bizarro gazzara), Friday, 6 April 2018 11:12 (six years ago) link

maybe there was some confusion about the guinea pig as a term denoting the subject of an experiment.

The story was put out after the Russian Embassy's characteristically trollish tweet earlier in the day:

It turns out Sergey Skripal has two cats and two guinea pigs. Were they also poisoned? Where are they and how are they treated? Important questions for the investigation. Read our comment: https://t.co/T8vwYdz77A pic.twitter.com/J5w3Jpz2I0

The implication they're raising is that there was nothing poisonous inside the house, but given that the main theory seems to be that it was applied to an exterior door, you wouldn't expect there to be.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Friday, 6 April 2018 11:31 (six years ago) link

Unless the cats and guinea pigs were in the habit of letting themselves in and out of the house via the front door - using the door knob that is.

Buff Jeckley (Tom D.), Friday, 6 April 2018 11:43 (six years ago) link

calzino, Friday, 6 April 2018 11:46 (six years ago) link

TBH the Russians know they can say whatever they want given that everyone knows that Britain's most senior diplomat lies all the fucking time.

Matt DC, Friday, 6 April 2018 11:49 (six years ago) link

The Sun reported that Skripal’s black cat, Nash Van Drake, was put down after being tested at the Ministry of Defence research laboratory at Porton Down, where he was found to be severely malnourished.

A Defra spokeswoman said a decision was taken by a veterinary surgeon to euthanise the cat to alleviate its suffering, and that it was taken in the best interests of the animal and its welfare.

they murder hundreds of guninea pigs, cats, dogs, rabbits on the reg at porton down iirc so lets not have this blubbing about animal welfare. also - nash van drake?!?

Page 23 of the MI6 handbook says that you should always use your pet’s name as your email password so it makes sense they don’t want it out there.

There seems to have been a lot of briefing to the press in recent days about secret assassination manuals and factories producing nerve gas but, in the absence of any public proof, it’s easy for Russia to ask why the UK is giving this to the Daily Mail but withheld it from the OPWC when they were certifying them compliant last year.

Given that 99% of people probably assume it’s Russia anyway, idk why they are continuing the half-baked effort to bolster the case other than to bail Johnson out of an embarrassing situation.
