don't suppose any ilxors have a "Jim Fixed It For Me" badge?

vermicious kid (Noodle Vague), Monday, 9 April 2018 14:38 (six years ago) link

no, but one sold on ebay in feb for £32.16, so it looks like it's a buyer's market out there (an 'i helped savile save stoke mandeville' badge would have set yo back only £19)

there's a fairly active savile memorabilia market on there, upsettingly enough

star wars ep viii: the bay of porgs (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 9 April 2018 14:43 (six years ago) link

there are people who collect nazi stuff so it's hardly a shock

vermicious kid (Noodle Vague), Monday, 9 April 2018 14:45 (six years ago) link

say what u like about the nazis tho, at least they were always impeccably turned out, wouldn't be seen dead in a string vest, pink-tinted john lennon specs and a gold lamé tracksuit

star wars ep viii: the bay of porgs (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 9 April 2018 14:46 (six years ago) link

how much did they raise for charity tho?

vermicious kid (Noodle Vague), Monday, 9 April 2018 14:47 (six years ago) link

There seemed to be quite a few Savile truthers out there last time I looked.

woof, Monday, 9 April 2018 14:48 (six years ago) link

Xxpost, a badge sold for two grand at the auction of his estate before the scandal broke. Wonder how the buyer of “The Beast”, feels after paying 130 grand for it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-19043994

Dan Worsley, Monday, 9 April 2018 14:53 (six years ago) link

savile's a real unusual case in that truthers have to make up explanations for all the shit he got away with which handwave away all the deep-rooted conspiracy rumours which actually turned out to be true

Frank Field Watch update; Frank still active in fighting for justice for the downtrodden and unappreciated:

There is a move afoot to nominate the Queen for a Nobel peace prize in recognition of her “determined diplomacy” in “keeping the Commonwealth alive”. Politicians from across the parties are backing the plan, although it is fair to say that while their loyalties are varied, they are of a certain vintage. They include Lord Howell, a Thatcher-era minister, and Labour’s Frank Field, who has been an MP since 1979.

My mum still has a booklet from the 70's with Jimmy Savile on it, he was fronting a promotion to encourage more mothers to become registered childminders. Probably should get that fucker on e-bay.

Red Gandalf's banner is a bit troubling tbh. Momentum don't seem to be doing much to root out the scourge of Neo-Lennonism amongst their membership.

This type of appalling treatment of people epitomises the vindictive nature of Theresa May's horrible policies as Home sec and PM. I would seriously celebrate if an icicle of piss skewered her brain.

calzino, Monday, 9 April 2018 21:40 (six years ago) link

Of course, having put him through two years of expense and uncertainty, telling him he was going to be deported and costing him his job, the Home Office managed to work out that he does have the right to stay within an hour of the story blowing up in the press.

Because it's 20 years since the Good Friday agreement the Today programme have Tony Blair on, and now he's actually sabre-rattling over Syria, cannot believe what I'm hearing although I totally can believe it, nothing is ever learned it seems.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 10 April 2018 07:28 (six years ago) link

TBF I have absolutely no idea what should happen wrt Syria now and I don't believe that 99% of people on this board do either, but Blair is the last person I'd go to for advice.

to paraphrase Jeremy Hardy's comment during the Yugoslav wars - "bombing will only make things worse. When people ask me 'well what would you do then?' my response is 'not make things worse'"

vermicious kid (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 10 April 2018 13:01 (six years ago) link

In a better world T Blair would know exactly how unpopular he is, and this would be a canny bit of reverse psychology to get T May to consider how she wants to be considered by history.

all i know is that it's better to blast those syrian kids into undifferentiated globs of human tissue rather than offer them refuge here in our glorious united kngdom

star wars ep viii: the bay of porgs (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 10 April 2018 13:08 (six years ago) link

AFAIK air strikes weren't terribly effective in Kosovo, it was the threat of ground troops that caused Milosevic to reconsider. But in Syria's case we've kindly offered to bomb two conflicting sides now so it's tempting to put this down to the Something Must Be Done tendency.

I'm too much of a space cadet type of peacenik to have a coherent argument why I think the UK piling on to an already clustered proxy war site is not going to make a difference, but good old Blair always has a platform on the BBC to remind me of what a cunt he is and how I might just be on the right side of the argument.

Any good analysis of the situation on the ground/likely form and effect of a british intervention? Gonna have to read up on this shit now.
