full BE3K EP out (on Fade to Mind) and it's excellent, opens up a whole new tempo range for the style

one of my favorite post-Pole (Stefan Betke), post- Basic Channel etc. 'dub' techno recordings

New Imaabs full-length is pretty crazy, distorted synth ambience with occasional jackhammer club beats

Mix edition! Since there's no rolling fave mixes 2018 thread.

Feeling this Nídia mix: https://soundcloud.com/sonarfestival/sounds-of-sonar-by-nidia-1

LOFT on NTS is always interesting: https://www.nts.live/shows/loft/episodes/loft-22nd-april-2018

Loving the new Randomer EP

The rest is more bobbins-y (still great), but that's my fave.

Kodek Live Performance 2018

Great mix from one of my faves:
https://soundcloud.com/factmag/fact-mix-653-shalt-may-18

I've been gravitating away from the super noisy end of things, my ears can't take it, but his choice of textures are always almost soothing, while still being distorted and mangled.
(one of mine in there too, full disclosure)

Also, new on NON, I like the idea of this (apparently all sounds generated with saxophone initially but processed beyond recognition):

And the new Sweat Equity comp has a couple gems: https://soundcloud.com/sweat-equity/millia-rage-affliction

New Air Max '97 full-length is even better than I expected:

This is abstract but in a way I find very pleasant and not grating. There isn't always pulse but there is a lot of rhythm:

not to direct people away from ilx but i noticed that Patten put together this new message board that seems like it's filled with people who pay attention to this sort of stuff. kind of dissensus-y, but more critical of the Reynolds/Fisher ethos

https://forum.555-5555.org/

austinb, Friday, 8 June 2018 00:33 (five years ago) link

imo dissensus always was really dry in how they talked about music, any personal reactions were about as deep as “this is a tune”

kind of wonder what the new dubstepforum is tbh. probably... dsf

Into this, meditative rhythmic meditations on house chord progressions, very sparing use of drums

really into this! It reminds me of that Tourist Kid single "Under Armor Suite" but better

boxedjoy, Friday, 15 June 2018 20:16 (five years ago) link

That Nyege Nyege release is cool.

Another one on the non-dance side, I like the conceit a lot (each track is a portrait of a different family member):

I've been listening to that Raime EP twice a day for the last few weeks, I think it's the best thing they've ever done.

https://sambarker.bandcamp.com/album/debiasing

best synthwork i've heard all year

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Friday, 13 July 2018 00:56 (five years ago) link

I like that but I don't know if at the end of the day I totally understand some of this rolling experimental electronic misfit club music. Stuff like that, part of me is like, when does the beat drop? I know how cliche that is but like, there's no reason for their not to be a beat! It's beautiful melodic techno. Throw in a kick drum for us. I see the promo calls it "DJ tools" but that's what B-sides are for.

dan selzer, Friday, 13 July 2018 20:32 (five years ago) link

https://nathanmoody.bandcamp.com/album/tudes-i-blue-box

bit of an older release (2017), but still engaging -

"This first volume features a very small Eurorack synthesizer, using primarily Mannequins brand modules and a touchplate keyboard. Every track is played live with no overdubs."

https://ellirecords.bandcamp.com/album/spectra

this struck me with its exciting timbres / energy, again, exploring modular synthesis.

Very cinematic, sci-fi releases from Kid Smpl & Lorn, no relation but they go well together imo:

this is just a dance track but there doesn't seem to be any rolling house/techno thread going and I need to share the bliss of this TRACK with someone, my God

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Thursday, 11 October 2018 22:50 (five years ago) link

https://billygomberg.bandcamp.com/album/slight-at-that-contact

Billy Gomberg makes music that might appeal to people who like Microstoria, En, Fennesz, Nuno Canavarro, et al. It's unhinged and thick with atmosphere, drifting and droning--aural latticeworks, with unusual textures, marked depth, and odd sound events. It's also calm (at times) and meditative. His more recent work sounds darker (tonally), with add'l acoustic elements coloring the fray.

braunld (Lowell N. Behold'n), Saturday, 13 October 2018 04:02 (five years ago) link

i hate this stupid fucking thread title.

macropuente (map), Saturday, 13 October 2018 04:03 (five years ago) link

you aren't a misfit you're just pretentious w/ shitty taste

macropuente (map), Saturday, 13 October 2018 04:04 (five years ago) link

not talking about specifically just a general statement about straight white guys who would describe what they like as 'misfit club music'

macropuente (map), Saturday, 13 October 2018 04:06 (five years ago) link

not sure about the "misfit" part, but thinking the "experimental electronic" part of the title might determine the content on the thread
