TM Glasgow, more.

Who is the other person?

Madchen, Friday, 26 October 2007 14:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, I have just found out the answer. Hoping it's senior and not junior, otherwise bye bye yet another crush of my youth (Tim Burgess fell away last night).

EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) — Sixties pop singer Donovan and cult film director David Lynch unveiled plans Friday for a new university in Scotland, where students will learn regular subjects while adhering to the principles of twice-daily transcendental meditation.
Donovan, whose hits include "Hurdy Gurdy Man" and "Mellow Yellow," announced he will open the Invincible Donovan University in either Glasgow or Edinburgh, bringing the hippy dream of world peace to his home country of Scotland.
The singer was joined by Lynch, an equally unlikely academic who directed film classics like "Blue Velvet" and the television show "Twin Peaks." The pair are part of a British tour to promote transcendental meditation, or TM, as a means of reducing violence, crime and stress in schools and colleges.

stet, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:25 (sixteen years ago) link

ah, TM.

grimly fiendish, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:32 (sixteen years ago) link

i was, for about two days, a PPC for the natural law party for the 1997 election.

i told them my finals were probably more important.

some of what they said contained a fair degree of sense.

some of it was absolutely fucking barking.

TM is a very good technique, which sadly i don't seem to have time to practice more. TS: getting up 20 minutes early, or giving it big Zs.

i should, of course, do it in the evenings, but i was never any good at getting into that habit.

grimly fiendish, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:34 (sixteen years ago) link

practise! not practice. bloody hell, simon.

grimly fiendish, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Hello Glasgow types. It was lovely to see you all last night. I'm sorry if I talked about myself all the time. I do that.

accentmonkey, Sunday, 28 October 2007 11:29 (sixteen years ago) link

You're doing it now :)

Great to meet you all too. Sorry for nerding out on Mr Monkey!

stet, Sunday, 28 October 2007 17:30 (sixteen years ago) link

hello yes, it was very lovely and please apologise again to mr monkey that we vanished off while he was in the loo (we never made the train, but we raced it down the motorway and got them on it at a further away stop!)

ailsa, Monday, 29 October 2007 10:18 (sixteen years ago) link

It was lovely to meet Accentmonkey, Mr Monkey, Brother Monkey and Mrs Brother Monkey. I left West with aching cheeks, which is a sure sign a good time has been had (other sure sign: headache next morning). I invented a new pome, as follows:

Beer then gin & tonic
Feeling chronic

Madchen, Monday, 29 October 2007 16:07 (sixteen years ago) link

lol at "mrs brother monkey" - I already left a message on facebook calling poor L3sl3y "monkey-in-law" :-)

ailsa, Monday, 29 October 2007 17:07 (sixteen years ago) link

hey guys i'm so going to be in glasgow the 10th november one night only (+ sat afternoon i guess, and sunday morning).

ken c, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 14:44 (sixteen years ago) link

top. if i'm about, i'll be out.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 14:45 (sixteen years ago) link

BE about, grimly

ken c, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 14:47 (sixteen years ago) link

I'll do my best to manage out. (+ obligatory NOT MONO plea)

ailsa, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 14:48 (sixteen years ago) link

13th note cafe then?

ken c, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 14:54 (sixteen years ago) link

why not? i've not been in there for ages and have many happy memories of it.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 15:04 (sixteen years ago) link

ah topp

stet, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 15:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Last time I was at the 13th Note, it smelled like a tramp's trousers. I'm working that afternoon, but should be free from about 6pm, I think.

Madchen, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 16:53 (sixteen years ago) link

If it starts smelling like a tramp's trousers from about 6pm, the evidence will start to become compelling.

Alba, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 18:16 (sixteen years ago) link

The same will be true if it doesn't, I guess.

Madchen, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 18:42 (sixteen years ago) link

There we are, then.

Madchen, Friday, 9 November 2007 12:45 (sixteen years ago) link

I think you should put in your application for a hot-dog licence immediately.

Alba, Friday, 9 November 2007 13:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I may try renting out my flat to some Aussie swimmers.

Madchen, Friday, 9 November 2007 15:13 (sixteen years ago) link

(I have a long enough bed)

Madchen, Friday, 9 November 2007 15:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Is that statement in relations to your post before, or a clumsy chatup line?

aldo, Friday, 9 November 2007 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link

hey guys i'm arriving around 2:30 and will probably find myself a pub to settle down in and will call you guys!

actually i might be on this thread on the way up cos GNER has WIFI!

ken c, Friday, 9 November 2007 15:50 (sixteen years ago) link

ken c, Friday, 9 November 2007 15:52 (sixteen years ago) link

But no punters.

Alba, Friday, 9 November 2007 15:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Just like the winche-- baboom

stet, Friday, 9 November 2007 16:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Ken, I'm really sorry but I'm going to miss you tonight - I managed to fall arse over tit down North Portland Street last night and now have a plastercast on my left leg. This is not some contrived excuse, honest! Hopefully catch up with you between Christmas and New Year.

Madchen, Saturday, 10 November 2007 15:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Cor, Madchen in a stookie, hope you're all right. I am attempting to get out tonight, but due to being really sleepy this seems pretty unlikely.

ailsa, Saturday, 10 November 2007 16:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Haha, yes 'stookie' was the new word I learned last night.

Madchen, Saturday, 10 November 2007 17:24 (sixteen years ago) link

i hate it when glaswegians moan about the weather, every fucking year "oh we had a shite summer"..."nice weather fir ducks". ram it. but fuck me, it's been freezing for november hasn't it?

jed_, Friday, 23 November 2007 19:48 (sixteen years ago) link

one month passes...

hoy, funsters. anyone fancy a pint, then? figure if i post this now, we might be able to get something organised by this time next year.

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 17 January 2008 22:26 (sixteen years ago) link

for fuck's sake.

grimly fiendish, Friday, 18 January 2008 11:23 (sixteen years ago) link

yes

onimo, Friday, 18 January 2008 11:29 (sixteen years ago) link

I *always* fancy a pint. Bagsy not Mono. Or West. There's a wee challenge for you.

ailsa, Friday, 18 January 2008 11:36 (sixteen years ago) link

This is an excellent idea. Should we have dinner too?

Madchen, Friday, 18 January 2008 12:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Mmmm, dinner.

Me and Neil went here and it was nice:

ailsa, Friday, 18 January 2008 13:17 (sixteen years ago) link

occasional poster pandaloo, who helped keep that rob newman thread alive, is up for meeting us all -- yes, really -- and suggests yon stereo place on renfield lane. which i've not been to yet. i understand it's run by the mono dudes, right enough ;)

salsa: that's the one just over the bridge from barfly, yeh? i've eaten there, and i can't remember a fucking thing about it (it was a birthday thing for one of mrs F's friends, and i drank myself insensible; actually, i remember sitting on my own at the bar for at least half an hour, which suggests i managed to pass the point where common decency goes out the window). i'm up for going back, aye.

dinner, beer, whatever: all good to me.

grimly fiendish, Friday, 18 January 2008 19:11 (sixteen years ago) link

pl count me in, esp. if a restaurant is involved - its one of my new year's resolutions to sample more glasgow eateries

going to see Earth and Sir Richard Bishop at Stereo in a cpl of weeks, and of course there's Instal at the Arches mid-Feb - really looking forward to seeing Marginal Consort do their marathon improv-drone thing

Ward Fowler, Friday, 18 January 2008 23:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Hello thread. yes a glasgow eat and drink would be nice. Ailsa - i know you don't i? (remember the Patrick Duff incident?)
suggestions welcome.

Pandaloo, Friday, 18 January 2008 23:17 (sixteen years ago) link

um, yeah, the patrick duff incident. Dear God. who are you?!?!

ailsa, Friday, 18 January 2008 23:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I mean, there is only one person who knows about that, I thought, maybe two. Neither of whom are left in Glasgow, as far as I know.

ailsa, Friday, 18 January 2008 23:34 (sixteen years ago) link

*intrigued*

grimly fiendish, Saturday, 19 January 2008 00:18 (sixteen years ago) link

right, i now know who pandaloo is, which makes sense, and shows how time skews my memory something rotten. As you were.

grimly, yes, that's the very place. Neil remembers it when it used to be some country'n'western dive bar, and the decor remains as such even though it's all mexican food now. It's not very big, but there were a couple of large-ish parties in when we were there, so pre-booking would get us a place no bother, I would have thought, also v. near to town for going drinkying afterwards if required.

ailsa, Saturday, 19 January 2008 09:25 (sixteen years ago) link

(I have no idea what Neil was doing hanging around c'n'w dive bars, btw, nor do i want to know)

ailsa, Saturday, 19 January 2008 09:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Ailsa... i bought him the pint. you know me now? still here!
sorry didn't mean to be so cryptic...

Pandaloo, Saturday, 19 January 2008 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link
