that would be amazing

on their forums there has been lots of talk of frank de boer. but seems to be based on absolutely fuck all/wishful thinking

Congratulations to Brechin on probably the most unwanted record in football.

Bimlo Horsewagon became Wheelbarrow Horseflesh (aldo), Sunday, 29 April 2018 14:56 (five years ago) link

East Stirling might not have matched that record in the 00's, by having the odd shock win, but they were very poor for many seasons iirc.

calzino, Sunday, 29 April 2018 20:12 (five years ago) link

P36 W0 D4 L32 . Goal difference -70.

lol

Mind that time I said “I honestly can't remember a more one sided game against them or their dead predecessors“

Well that again.

Weirdly I got a bit twitchy in advance after Hibs showed everyone how to beat us but it took about 3 minutes before I realised we would coast to an easy win. 8-0 wouldn’t have flattered us.

Murty sacked, the almost indescribable ecstasy of having Gerrard as next Rangers' manager has moved a little closer.

Re: Brechin, compare with Fort William in the Highland League:

P33 W0 D4 L29 Goal difference -153.

Fort William have one more game to turn their season around tbf.

Going to put my timfoil hat on here regarding Gerrard: the Scottish football media, which failed to scrutinize Rangers in the run up to their liquidation, and then has failed to scrutinize Whyte, Green, and King's dodgy regimes, is now braying for Stevie G - a novice manager, admittedly apparently did well at youth level with Liverpool's under 18s - and a war chest to turn Rangers around. Would have thought a proven managerial appointment - say Steve Clarke - coupled with modest spending befitting the impecunious state of Rangers' finances would have been more fitting, and less likely to put Rangers on the road to liquidation again. But what do I know?

Daniel Johns Hopkins (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:20 (five years ago) link

You're failing to take into account the delusional character of Rangers' fans and the Scottish football media (samethingamirite?) regarding the club's status.

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:24 (five years ago) link

I understand the entitlement of the true Rangers man, but there's plenty in the press who don't lean that why, but spout the same guff - looking at you Mr Keevins

Daniel Johns Hopkins (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 17:06 (five years ago) link

God, is he still going?

ailsa, Thursday, 3 May 2018 07:17 (five years ago) link

More importantly, Fort William *drew their final game of the season 3-3, to finish on 5 points! Huzzah! Read those stats and weep, Brechin:

P34 W0 D5 L29 F31 A184 GD-153 Pts5

*leading until 4 minutes from the end :(

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Thursday, 3 May 2018 07:38 (five years ago) link

LOL schoolboy error from Sky News attempting to interview Rangers fans live, lulled into a false sense of security by the first (reasonable if delusional) fan, the next drops an f-bomb, the third says he's looking forward to seeing Scott Brown been put on his arse. Back to the studio ASAP.

don't they remember the folly of John Barnes? Daft question, it seems this dysfunctional board can't even remember Ryan Giggs!

calzino, Friday, 4 May 2018 19:01 (five years ago) link

It's wonderful, plus I've always hated Stevie Me anyway, overrated twunt.

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Friday, 4 May 2018 19:09 (five years ago) link

Pat Nevin claimed on Radio 4 yesterday morning that Barnes' record is not only one of the best at Celtic but one of the best in football *period*. xpost

Bimlo Horsewagon became Wheelbarrow Horseflesh (aldo), Friday, 4 May 2018 19:31 (five years ago) link

Coisty on R5 assuring us all that this appointment "put Scottish football back on the map".

Tim, Friday, 4 May 2018 19:44 (five years ago) link

(xp) Barnes' Celtic started off hammering sides 5, 6, 7-0, as I remember.

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Friday, 4 May 2018 19:55 (five years ago) link

It was an amazing coup for Tranmere to get him then!

calzino, Friday, 4 May 2018 20:02 (five years ago) link

Just checking Celtic's results for the 1999/2000 season, I think it's fair to say they had the upper hand in their encounters with Aberdeen in the league:

Aberdeen 0 – 5 Celtic
Celtic 7 – 0 Aberdeen
Aberdeen 0 – 6 Celtic
Celtic 5 – 1 Aberdeen

... last one was post Barnes

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Friday, 4 May 2018 20:04 (five years ago) link

Barnes was officially named as manager of Tranmere Rovers on 15 June 2009, with Jason McAteer assisting him.[41] He got off to a disastrous start, with Tranmere only winning three of their first fourteen games. During their time at Tranmere, Barnes and McAteer were allegedly dubbed "Dumb and Dumber" by the Tranmere players.[42] On 9 October 2009, Barnes was sacked by the club six days after a 5–0 defeat at Millwall and a run of just two wins from eleven league games.[43] He has since applied to become the manager of the Rwandan national team with Stephen Garside as his Youth Team Coach.[44]

8 losses at Celtic in one season, best in footbal? Better send some Frank leaflets to Nevin!

calzino, Friday, 4 May 2018 20:06 (five years ago) link

I remember reading in WSC about some completely idiotic "this is a good little club to start my career" type comment from Barnes that pissed of lots of Celtic fans from the start.

Some press reporting that Neil Lennon is considering his position.

Sad indictment of the game if they somehow scrape second despite being pure garbage.

On the cards once Aberdeen failed yet again to beat them tbh

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Wednesday, 9 May 2018 23:40 (five years ago) link

Honestly, fuck these useless cunts, they deserve to spend the next 1000 years trailing behind Celtic and Rangers and moaning about the unfairness of it all.

Kanye O'er Frae France? (Tom D.), Wednesday, 9 May 2018 23:42 (five years ago) link

OK, Hibs 3-0 up after 22 minutes, now 4-3 down. Classic Hibees.

Sad news that Neale Cooper died - he was only 54 :(

From Tom English on twitter

Neale Cooper in Fergie Rises: “He (Franz Beckenbauer) said I was possibly the closest he had seen to a player like himself at that age. That was quite a compliment. But I always say that it goes to show, even Franz Beckenbauer can talk some amount of shite.”

Nonetheless hoping for a better performance vs Mexico.
