Ken, I'm really sorry but I'm going to miss you tonight - I managed to fall arse over tit down North Portland Street last night and now have a plastercast on my left leg. This is not some contrived excuse, honest! Hopefully catch up with you between Christmas and New Year.

Madchen, Saturday, 10 November 2007 15:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Cor, Madchen in a stookie, hope you're all right. I am attempting to get out tonight, but due to being really sleepy this seems pretty unlikely.

ailsa, Saturday, 10 November 2007 16:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Haha, yes 'stookie' was the new word I learned last night.

Madchen, Saturday, 10 November 2007 17:24 (sixteen years ago) link

i hate it when glaswegians moan about the weather, every fucking year "oh we had a shite summer"..."nice weather fir ducks". ram it. but fuck me, it's been freezing for november hasn't it?

jed_, Friday, 23 November 2007 19:48 (sixteen years ago) link

one month passes...

hoy, funsters. anyone fancy a pint, then? figure if i post this now, we might be able to get something organised by this time next year.

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 17 January 2008 22:26 (sixteen years ago) link

for fuck's sake.

grimly fiendish, Friday, 18 January 2008 11:23 (sixteen years ago) link

yes

onimo, Friday, 18 January 2008 11:29 (sixteen years ago) link

I *always* fancy a pint. Bagsy not Mono. Or West. There's a wee challenge for you.

ailsa, Friday, 18 January 2008 11:36 (sixteen years ago) link

This is an excellent idea. Should we have dinner too?

Madchen, Friday, 18 January 2008 12:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Mmmm, dinner.

Me and Neil went here and it was nice:

ailsa, Friday, 18 January 2008 13:17 (sixteen years ago) link

occasional poster pandaloo, who helped keep that rob newman thread alive, is up for meeting us all -- yes, really -- and suggests yon stereo place on renfield lane. which i've not been to yet. i understand it's run by the mono dudes, right enough ;)

salsa: that's the one just over the bridge from barfly, yeh? i've eaten there, and i can't remember a fucking thing about it (it was a birthday thing for one of mrs F's friends, and i drank myself insensible; actually, i remember sitting on my own at the bar for at least half an hour, which suggests i managed to pass the point where common decency goes out the window). i'm up for going back, aye.

dinner, beer, whatever: all good to me.

grimly fiendish, Friday, 18 January 2008 19:11 (sixteen years ago) link

pl count me in, esp. if a restaurant is involved - its one of my new year's resolutions to sample more glasgow eateries

going to see Earth and Sir Richard Bishop at Stereo in a cpl of weeks, and of course there's Instal at the Arches mid-Feb - really looking forward to seeing Marginal Consort do their marathon improv-drone thing

Ward Fowler, Friday, 18 January 2008 23:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Hello thread. yes a glasgow eat and drink would be nice. Ailsa - i know you don't i? (remember the Patrick Duff incident?)
suggestions welcome.

Pandaloo, Friday, 18 January 2008 23:17 (sixteen years ago) link

um, yeah, the patrick duff incident. Dear God. who are you?!?!

ailsa, Friday, 18 January 2008 23:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I mean, there is only one person who knows about that, I thought, maybe two. Neither of whom are left in Glasgow, as far as I know.

ailsa, Friday, 18 January 2008 23:34 (sixteen years ago) link

*intrigued*

grimly fiendish, Saturday, 19 January 2008 00:18 (sixteen years ago) link

right, i now know who pandaloo is, which makes sense, and shows how time skews my memory something rotten. As you were.

grimly, yes, that's the very place. Neil remembers it when it used to be some country'n'western dive bar, and the decor remains as such even though it's all mexican food now. It's not very big, but there were a couple of large-ish parties in when we were there, so pre-booking would get us a place no bother, I would have thought, also v. near to town for going drinkying afterwards if required.

ailsa, Saturday, 19 January 2008 09:25 (sixteen years ago) link

(I have no idea what Neil was doing hanging around c'n'w dive bars, btw, nor do i want to know)

ailsa, Saturday, 19 January 2008 09:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Ailsa... i bought him the pint. you know me now? still here!
sorry didn't mean to be so cryptic...

Pandaloo, Saturday, 19 January 2008 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes, I know who you are - last ran into you at malaga airport, yes? I am CRINGING at what a monumental arsehole patrick duff was.

ailsa, Sunday, 20 January 2008 11:58 (sixteen years ago) link

When are you all thinking of? (Daft question)... Maybe I could join you.

Keith, Sunday, 20 January 2008 12:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Ailsa - yeah i'd forgotten that! the random factor!

Pandaloo, Sunday, 20 January 2008 16:36 (sixteen years ago) link

so. when?

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 16:15 (sixteen years ago) link

ach, you decide. any time is OK with me, probably.

ailsa, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 16:42 (sixteen years ago) link

i start the bidding with next friday, feb 1. and i think we should do food.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 16:57 (sixteen years ago) link

fine by me. people will have been paid = always a good start.

ailsa, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 16:57 (sixteen years ago) link

exactly.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 23 January 2008 16:58 (sixteen years ago) link

*forlorn bump*

grimly fiendish, Friday, 25 January 2008 10:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Me and Neil will eat food with you, even if no-one else will.

ailsa, Friday, 25 January 2008 10:29 (sixteen years ago) link

yay!

grimly fiendish, Friday, 25 January 2008 10:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I am trying Glasgow more for Easter, arriving on Thursday the 20th of March and leaving again on the Monday. Who's around? I have plans for the Friday night, which involve going to a gig in the comedy festival.

accentmonkey, Friday, 25 January 2008 11:12 (sixteen years ago) link

I will be in Spain, which is basically good, but annoyingly badly timed, not least because i want to go to said comedy festival gig. and drink with monkey(s), obviously.

ailsa, Friday, 25 January 2008 11:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I will too... Just make sure you let me know the plan...

Keith, Friday, 25 January 2008 17:09 (sixteen years ago) link

umm. fuck this for a lack of interest, then.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 21:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey, I'll come and drink with you! I said I would! (sorry that this isn't good enough) Is anyone else from Glasgow even on ILX any more?

ailsa, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 22:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry. I am. What's the plan?

Alba, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 22:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm in Glasgow, but social cripple status hampers my ability to go out and meet internet folks.

krakow, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 22:44 (sixteen years ago) link

ha, i know, ailsa: sorry, that was meant to be more tongue-in-cheek than it perhaps looks.

also: i can't actually do friday any more anyway. sorry. verily, i am shit.

krakow: being social cripples hasn't stopped any of us so far!

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 22:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I have been paid today so drinking and eating out are options once more.

Madchen, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 13:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Glasgow, you are fucking pathetic. no wonder the other regional threads laugh at us :-)

ailsa, Thursday, 31 January 2008 20:09 (sixteen years ago) link

sorry glasgow, my computer was out of action for the last week or so, but at the moment i am superbroke so can't really afford to go out eating/drinking anyways (don't think I can afford Earth @ Stereo, either) :-(

still hoping to see an ILXOR or two at INSTAL in a couple of weeks, and there's some good shit on at the Glasgow Film Festival in Feb - I'm def. going to attend the all-day FRIGHTFEST event, it was terrif last year

Spending 24 hours in Glasgow this Saturday-Sunday. Never been before! What should I do?

G00blar, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 20:27 (sixteen years ago) link

organise a fap that no-one will go to!

ailsa, Thursday, 7 February 2008 00:50 (sixteen years ago) link

That sounds a bit harsh, ailsa!

What kind of things do you like doing, G00blar?

Alba, Thursday, 7 February 2008 09:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry, meant "try and fail to organise a FAP", it's what we do.

G00blar, a walk around the shops on and around King Street (off the Trongate) tends to be a pleasant way to pass time - don't miss going into Mono (pub in Kings Court) which has a fine little record shop inside.

ailsa, Thursday, 7 February 2008 09:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Thanks, Ailsa.

I do have friends coming in from Edinburgh (they used to live in Glasgow) to hang out with me Sat evening, so coming up with a night's plan shouldn't be a problem. I guess I'm just *really* excited to finally get to Glasgow! My grandfather was born there, I've always wanted to go, but it's just never happened. It's only happening this weekend 'cause a free ticket has fallen into my lap.

G00blar, Thursday, 7 February 2008 11:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Weather's meant to be a bit miserable on Saturday, but I like a good old walk round the necropolis (spooky but lovely graveyard).

http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/Parks_Outdoors/HeritageTrails/GlasgowNecropolis/necropolisheritagetrail.htm

ailsa, Thursday, 7 February 2008 11:51 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I was going to say the Necropolis would be worth a visit, and you're not too far away if you're in the Mono area. You could combine it with a trip to the People's Palace on Glasgow Green, which is a slightly cheesy but fun local history museum. Perhaps there'll be a picture of your granddad.

Alba, Thursday, 7 February 2008 13:34 (sixteen years ago) link

the People's Palace on Glasgow Green, which is a slightly cheesy but fun local history museum and is right next to the West Brewing Company.
