... LOL, I thought there was more to that thread than two posts. Still, it's incontrvertible that well-wishers, of any kind and for any reason, are weirdoes.

there is something pretty wrong with these people it's true, but maybe it's just like other kinds of exhibitionist fandom except in this case your idols don't actual do anything

look I'm sorry it was only a joke (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 17 May 2018 09:42 (five years ago) link

yeah it did set me wondering how this differs, if at all, from e.g. queuing up for Wimbledon tickets or for I dunno, some hip young people's act such as Ed Sheeran. There is the toxic level of jingoism I suppose

Neil S, Thursday, 17 May 2018 09:58 (five years ago) link

that's not true, they leech money from the state and keep hundreds of worthless muckracking journalists in employment xp

Thing is, strip out the weirdoes and the tourists and the crowds at these royal events are never exactly impressive, despite the supposed obeisance of the GBP.

"This is what we do around here now"- is this a sedentary practice invented by Sidmouth youth or is it a new fashion that's passed me by?

you used to be able to kick a kid in the street

What could be more quintessentially Real England than walking down the street and having kids shout random shit at you? I was walking down the high street just now, two 14 year old lads went past me on bicycles, and as they passed one of them shouted "EURGH I WATCH GAY PORN!!!". I guess they were trying to insult me or intimidate me, but I cracked up laughing.

I was out with my son on a scooter ride the other day, and a young 'un from a gang of teenagers congregating outside the takeaway shouted: "Nice wheels, dickhead!". But I guess I am getting a bit old for playing out on scooters and took it in good humour!

Got called a paedo in Runcorn a coupke years back by a couple of kids on bikes. I was like you wish lads but they didn't hear my sparkling repartee :-(

you can't beat a bit of paedo humour, but sometimes you have to tread a bit carefully!

Spam is a thing people voluntarily eat in Japan Korea Hawaii etc. I see it on menus here in California.

Realness is so fickle. A golf buggy is in no way Real, but at the moment of theft it begins to assume a patina of realitude. By the time it reaches the McDonalds drive-thru it is wholly made of Real.

A prestigious private girls’ school has faced strong criticism after holding an “austerity day” where students dined on baked potatoes, beans and coleslaw.

St Paul’s Girls’ School in west London was accused of being “tone deaf” after it tweeted about the charity fundraiser which saw staff and students eating “simple food” in place of the fare they are normally served.

It said money saved on dinners at the £24,000-a-year school – whose former pupils include actors Rachel Weisz and Natasha Richardson – would go towards the school’s charities.

Really fancy a baked potato now

Kostic negotiator (Noodle Vague), Friday, 22 June 2018 21:43 (five years ago) link

Tato, beans, butter, blue cheese, feast fit for a private schoolgirl that

behold the drab potatoes of austerity

I'd Rather Kecak (NickB), Friday, 22 June 2018 22:01 (five years ago) link

Bombay Potatoes would be at least equal or cheaper to make than jackets with beans and cheese, but that wouldn't be austerity!

Got a total potato craving, haven't really been hungry for a week and I'm fairly hungover today but I want some full fat carbs

Kostic negotiator (Noodle Vague), Friday, 22 June 2018 22:12 (five years ago) link

I did some slow-cooked pork chops in honey, garlic and onion gravy with mashed potatoes (with butter + double cream) earlier, it was pretty fucking good tbh!

calzino, Friday, 22 June 2018 22:15 (five years ago) link

Never thought of slow cooking pork chops, normally grill/fry them hot and fast. How long d'you give them?

Kostic negotiator (Noodle Vague), Friday, 22 June 2018 22:17 (five years ago) link

I haven’t had carbs for like six weeks and suddenly today I’m hoofing down oxtail stew and coconut rice chased by half a bag of stroopwafels.

suzy, Friday, 22 June 2018 22:19 (five years ago) link

I've got everything I need for rice and peas tbh, that might do as a substitute

Kostic negotiator (Noodle Vague), Friday, 22 June 2018 22:21 (five years ago) link

Made the oxtail with short rib instead, totally recommend.

suzy, Friday, 22 June 2018 22:22 (five years ago) link

xxxp
about 2 1/2 hours in veg stock, honey, garlic, red wine vinegar (the recipe specified rice vinegar, but I'm a maverick) at gas mark 2, and turning occasionally is what I did and it was pretty good.

calzino, Friday, 22 June 2018 22:22 (five years ago) link

Pork chops are one of those meats where the margin between lush and inedible is pretty tight

Kostic negotiator (Noodle Vague), Friday, 22 June 2018 22:23 (five years ago) link

getting a digital meat thermometer changed my life in this area iirc

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 22 June 2018 22:28 (five years ago) link

The Chinese seem to have mastered the lush side of pork, i'm way dodgy with it and probably why I'm still trying different ways of cooking it all the time. My attempts at recreating Chinese takeaway style pork dishes have been bad to absolute inedible tbh.
