grimes was a very typical vancouverite (looks, attitude, and everything) who still never fully realized til she moved to a big city (hello los angeles) her anti-establishment/radical socialist ideas have no place in the modern world -- it's vancouver's and mayor gregor robertson's "greenest city"/vision vancouver ploy

now she doesn't really want to handle the consequences of her ideas if she goes through with them from a practical conclusion/view

She explicitly defended Musk & Tesla's very dubious business and labor practices on Twitter. Like Joan said, it's an explicit endorsement of politics many of her fans find repulsive.

I mean maybe she invites it by engaging a lot w/her fans online(?); and saying “i’ll address it in my next ama!” is kinda rofl-y – but I dunno how anyone would expect a person to respond to such tweets other than “Nunya beezwax” or a defense of some kind. (“You’re right, Twitter rando, he suxx, mea culpa!”?)

I thought her defense was the point (as you stated it) – if the point is simply they’re upset that’s she’s dating him, that’s a different kettle of fish (but if they @ her and she responds, it’s on them)

as for her “overcrowded” line; metro rail ridership is actually down in L.A., apparently for a number of reasons; and the sparser crowds have led to greater safety concerns, which further depresses ridership...

The 99B bus out to where her mom lives in Van are nightmarishly crowded it is true. You have to wait for like 4 buses before you can even get on. Underground electric mini-trains won't help much. Incidentally their family business is taxis.

Anyway, I agree w/flopson that that tweet above is peak bad-Twitter, as it’s basically saying that the political trumps the personal.

Honestly I have zero investment in Grimes, who she dates, or what opinions she holds, but it’s absurd that she or anyone would be demonized for anything she said in that (quite mild) series of tweets

I agree completely, but read Simon as implyig that being a “defender of a private-transit profiteer” made her something other than just an online person w/an opinion that you may or may not agree with (like any other)

ya you guys are conflating la and vancouver public transportation which are two incredibly different beasts

it's true the b-line is super crowded but she isn't suggesting musk's loop as a solution to that

the loop is a solution to la transit which has other problems

for starters, i've heard the loop is like a "personal car," meaning you ride by yourself. he's calling them pods and the loop will transport 16 people at a time

thing is you get limited surface (ground level) space to wait to get into that pod. so it might take 5 minutes to get to your destination, but waiting to get inside it takes like 5 times that

right now the 2-mile stretch will cover an affluent area of the westside down to, i guess by la standards, more of a middle-class neighbourhood

elon musk is trying to get around the city of los angeles doing an eir (environmental impact review) because building tunnels in such close proximity to fault lines require a lot of research and exact building procedures. this research alone takes 3-4 years, yet he's saying he can build the whole thing by late this year, and he says he can build miles and miles of tunnels soon without public money

the details on how he is going to build the thing are so incredibly vague, that people are questioning whether he even knows what he's doing
