Oddly, Bob Dylan?! I do not know when I acquired this false memory/belief. Even having just googled this, I had a feeling of uncertainty- is he alive or not!

Jerry Maren may not be particularly famous, but he was a munchkin from the Lollipop Guild in the 1939 Wizard of Oz and he's alive, against all my expectations. He's 98.

lollipop guild guy blows my fucking mind. and his wiki entry points to another surviving cast member, judy garland's understudy caren marsh doll (now 99). i mean, there are plenty of people who are 98 and 99, even in hard-living hollywood, but that film has an aura, to me, that makes it feel like it came from practically the silent era.

Anybody keeping track of how many people mentioned on this thread subsequently died within 4 posts? (Could be that this thread is a crowd-sourced version of that cat that likes to snuggle up to people high on the reaper's list at the old folks home.)

I saw his obit on PBS last night, and remembered the posts on this thread mentioning him and falsely remembered it was in the obit thread. Fucking weird. Sorry man

No doubt, it's not an error or failing of anyone not to know*. I just think it's notable that this 92-year-old who hasn't been commercially successful since his '30s has spent the last five years being as productive as most alternative cartoonists were in the 1990s. Especially as many of the thread subjects have been retired for decades before their appearances herein.
*Albeit it's odder to have a specific, active opinion that someone so notable in the field you're considering did die a long time ago, vs not having thought about them at all.
