Britannia Unchained: Global Lessons for Growth and Prosperity is a political book written by several British Conservative Party MPs. It was released on 13 September 2012. Its authors present a treatise, arguing that Britain should adopt a different and radical approach to business and economics or risk "an inevitable slide into mediocrity".[1]

The book is written by Kwasi Kwarteng, Priti Patel, Dominic Raab, Chris Skidmore and Elizabeth Truss – five Tory MPs who were elected in May 2010 and belong to the party's Thatcherite-leaning Free Enterprise Group.

The book caused controversy in August 2012 after a short extract appeared in London's Evening Standard which accused British workers of laziness, and lagging behind their Asian counterparts. Part of this was later reprinted in The Guardian: "The British are among the worst idlers in the world. We work among the lowest hours, we retire early and our productivity is poor. Whereas Indian children aspire to be doctors or businessmen, the British are more interested in football and pop music."

yeah Raab is another one of these mutton heads who connects the UK's productivity crisis with lazy workers and likes the Singapore Model iirc.

The unchained stuff doesn't reconcile with accepting this post on a soft brexit 'illusion of control' position? What's the deal here?

i was wondering that myself - a sop to the hard brexiters on may's part, and pure opportunism by raab?

The unchained stuff is a make eng great again via take back control, and he could've run for the leadership on that platform. Now he is aligning himself with this sinking ship in a key position where every move will be watched.

it'll give him "responsible Party MP" credits in future, cos either the Tories split over this or at some point somebody's going to have to reconcile the sides. once Brexit's done the latter becomes more likely i guess.

DD is just a stunt politician, a joke who doesn't really wanna be in gov. Raab probably a little more long game careerist than that.

boris johnson seems to have dodged out of the official engagements he was supposed to have attended today and according to peston he's been meeting his advisers in private instead. this is being seen as a sign that he's just about to quit

i dunno, last week it was a sign he was too much of a hypocrite/coward to back up his own public stance on a vote in parliament

i mean he abdicates his responsibilities for so many reasons

This is a good time to take a fake principled stance. If he quits maybe PM will be under a vote of confidence. Would expect her to survive that, and for this dreck to limp on till next spring at the least.
