NV, it was Peterson's interview with Cathy Newman on ch4 news that brought him to the attention of mainstream media, mostly as a result of misogynistic criticism of her on twitter and reddit etc.

i've seen and was aware of that interview. i'm not sure how much all round public impact C4 News has and i can remember being surprised that Newman was allowed to call him out because most of Channel 4 reeks of libertarians most of the time, more like Challop 4 imo.

The criticism mostly seemed to be people deliberately misunderstanding the way you would ask someone questions to narrow and clarify their position. Not that it was great.

I don't think any of that really tallies with Channel 4's news output, tbh. They broke the Cambridge Analytica story on TV news a few months back, I don't really see much that could be characterised as "libertarian" in C4's news broadcasts, but perhaps you've seen more than me.

Almost none of these people (as i interpret them) will drop RT pieces but there's a definite tendency to throw in Peterson / gender-critical / Spectator / etc stuff under the "i don't necessarily agree with it but this raises some interesting questions" banner. I honestly think it comes back, more than anything, to needing to appear engaged in the cut and thrust of contemporary thought while lacking any real capacity to apply a substantial amount of thought to anything.

We have a vast number of people in this country who are mistaken for public intellectuals because their dad managed to wangle an internship at the New Statesman or Economist fifteen years ago and they're no more capable of not Producing Content than a shark is capable of not swimming and continuing to breathe.

Idk I’m less inclined to give the just-asking-questions crowd much leeway given how keen they are to give cover to much worse things just by their silence.
