this is perhaps the only good thread left on ILM and it would be great if it didn't revolve solely around one troll's storyline but you guys do you...

the debut isn't as good or as fully realised as I like it when you sleep..., and Matty's voice is more annoying on it but there's still a lot to love about it, it's the sort of album where half the album could have been made of lesser band's single hit tracks and then the other half is even better stuff like Menswear and Pressure

the debut is pretty perfect imo in that it feels so minor compared to what has come after it, yet you can easily see the roots sprouting out in all the different directions they'd follow. also there's something fun about hearing them very stripped down at this point.

and the songwriting is just killer across the record

having one of those nights where their amniotic ambient stuff sounds like the best music ever... menswear, me, head.cars.bending, haunt/bed, so far it's alright, fallingforyou... jesus h

"heart out" is quickly becoming possibly my favorite song of theirs

I'd rather be talking about how good the new material is possibly going to me, but y'know what it's like around here. Clearly I missed the memo where the word "troll" was redefined.

I actually gave the debut another listen last night - it didn't change my mind. I really love some of the EP tracks, including the ones J0rdan mentioned.

It's quite funny that people are now annoyed that I now like this band but don't make a point of worshipping everything they've ever released.

I already thought 'Give Yourself a Try' was great, but the new song is absolutely amazing. Love the Blue Nile nod. Healy is so fucking sultry.

FYI, the deluxe box thing (lp's, cd, books and assorted paraphernalia) of 'ILIWYS' is now up for grabs for just € 40 (down from € 107). That's just € 5 more than the 2LP, ie. a steal.

That Healy tweet from a few days ago is funny because 'Antichrist' really is one of their best tracks to date and I don't blame the 1975 hardcore for repeatedly badgering them to play it live.

As much as their music has grown on me, in 2018 "posh boy with a smack addiction goes to rehab in Barbados to end his drug hell" is one of the most tedious/lousiest/boring angles to promote a record. The whole thing gives me 'Used to be in Evil Gazebo' vibes, which is a shame - I'm sure their forthcoming music is going to be very good.

I have such low standards for musicians' level of insight into their own work (or capacity to reveal it in interviews) that Matt's generally OTM little statements about his music are always a bit more surprising to me than they should be.

Anyway, one thing I'm looking forward to is seeing how the forthcoming two albums stack up against each other... Will they have two distinct approaches or more like part one and part two? Will people treat it as a Load/Reload or Kid A/Amnesiac and start making their own compilations/ideal tracklistings? How far will they reach stylistically over the two records? Etc.

However, I do look forward to reading what little I can about The 1975's forthcoming music in between paragraphs of a spoiled brat waxing lyrical about his drug habits and the dumb lifestyle choices he makes to colour in his black hole of a personality.

It's okay, though - I think Billy Corgan is a prize tit as well, and I still like his music.
