Mo Salah is not powerful enough to make Loris Karius stay strong.

I see the Chelsea logic in signing Green is to make homegrown quotas, and when a fairly shite young keeper has just gone for £12m in the current british market - it makes sense getting an old, possibly slightly less useless freebie.

I approve of this.

looks like Adama Traoré's on his way to the Wolves, our first team is gonna be pretty young

the Joao looked at Jonny (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 25 July 2018 15:58 (five years ago) link

according to rumours we are interested as well, but there's no way well splurge 18m on one player, even he looks bang tidy. Perhaps this will open the door for another Cavaleiro bid from us.

calzino, Wednesday, 25 July 2018 16:02 (five years ago) link

i saw those rumours but this looks like breaking news in the last hour or so, we've apparently offered his full buy-out clause and wage demands

the Joao looked at Jonny (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 25 July 2018 16:05 (five years ago) link

it does raise more question marks over Cav i think. lot of Wolves fans will moan like fuck if he goes - as they're already doing over Barry Douglas's reported departure for Leeds - but this time last year i remember concluding with my brother that he wasn't necessarily top flight class. he's just had a great season, and i'd like him to start in the Prem with us, but it absolutely wouldn't surprise me if we sell. i think that might depend on whether we're going to bring in an orthodox number 9. cos again, a portion of the fans are obsessed with that shit but i'm looking at Jimenez or Bonatini in that false 9 role and two from Jota, Cav, Costa, Traoré running at the box/exploiting the space and i'm pretty happy with that as is right now.

we've just beaten a very impressive looking Lyon side 3-1. They put 4 past Fulham last week and definitely weren't treating the game like a piss-about. They carved us up good in the first 10 minutes but Memphis Depay literally can't even finish on target into an empty net! Anyway we are going fucking do some damage this season, and Diakhaby looks like a quality signing.

Werder Bremen have got Klaassen in a half price sale. I bet Everton had pay off some of his 100k a week contract to seal the deal, Koeman not fit to be let near a L1 budget!

calzino, Friday, 27 July 2018 09:51 (five years ago) link

Klaassen wil earn € 3.5m at Werder, still not bad for a water bearer. Think it's a big mistake by Bremen. He'll be back in the Eredivisie in one or two years.

Are Grealish (at a third of what Villa want to sell him for) and Martial (in exchange for Toby) the only vaguely solid Spurs rumours at the moment?

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Friday, 27 July 2018 09:56 (five years ago) link

Since the 22-0 vs that Austrian pub side EFC's pre-season results have been 1-1, 0-0, 0-1, 0-3. That last one a very strong XI vs Blackburn. So all good then.

Michael Jones, Friday, 27 July 2018 10:00 (five years ago) link

xo no weve signed a golden boot winner, one of asias top attacking prospects, a younf argentine who had a good spell at roma a few years back, etc etc

dele alli my bookmarks (darraghmac), Friday, 27 July 2018 10:08 (five years ago) link

hah pre-season results are a funny game. We beat a full strength Lyon 3-1 just 9 days after getting a comprehensive 3-0 arsekicking by the mighty Accy Stanley.

calzino, Friday, 27 July 2018 10:08 (five years ago) link

idk how to quantify solidity but a fair amount of noise about de Ligt, Kovacic, Sessegnon. Lucas basically a new signing

I'm not rushing to put any spurs players in my fantasy football team

ogmor, Friday, 27 July 2018 10:10 (five years ago) link

de ligt has died down with weeks, sessegnon stopped as soon as fulham won promotion, kovacic is joao moutinho 2, agree about lucas tho

we'll make a big money move for martial when its too late (if it ever was gonna happen) and toby will go.

one cm from a ligue un team will come in maybe if dembele goes

dele alli my bookmarks (darraghmac), Friday, 27 July 2018 10:11 (five years ago) link

City's wide forwards are an absolute fantasy football nightmare as well. Who starts the majority of games out of Sterling, Sane and Mahrez?

Matt DC, Friday, 27 July 2018 10:56 (five years ago) link

☢☠ FANTASY FOOTBALL POST ☠☢

not just the forwards, city's rotation is offputting all round. mahrez might play slightly deeper. sane is on my shortlist but there are lots of new/exciting options and starting elevens yet tbc. of the big boys liverpool have the most temptingly nailed squad. I'm liking the look of felipe anderson and surely pellegrini will sort wham out. chelsea midfielders are absurdly underpriced in FF atm and some of them have to start, ramsey & mkhitaryan likewise.

ogmor, Friday, 27 July 2018 11:30 (five years ago) link

yeh mkh seems a must have at his value

nxd, Friday, 27 July 2018 11:35 (five years ago) link

first 2 games home to Everton and away at Leicester, good markers. then some Manchester club.

i will never trust preseason again after the david bentley/darren bent fiasco

My possibly erroneous recollection of Spurs' pre-seasons is that whenever we have a great one we promptly lose our first three league games.

groovypanda, Friday, 27 July 2018 11:51 (five years ago) link

NV please give me the inside info on wolves. what kind of name is diogo and how much does he know about the onion bag? is douglas set to be a desirable asset in the current market?

ogmor, Friday, 27 July 2018 12:03 (five years ago) link

got me douglas and jota atm

nxd, Friday, 27 July 2018 12:12 (five years ago) link

Jota could net 10 plus this season and we'll maybe need him to. Quick-footed, plays as a left-sided forward in our front 3 usually, only in his early 20s, could make a real name for himself this season. Probably the best forward in our team right now.

We've accepted an offer from Leeds for Douglas. He was great last season, especially from dead balls, and a big part of the promotion side. But he's 28 and it looks like Nuno doesn't think he's quick enough to play wing back in the Prem, so. It's a shame but selling him speaks to our ambition bordering on hubris.

the Joao looked at Jonny (Noodle Vague), Friday, 27 July 2018 12:15 (five years ago) link

I expect us to mostly stay 3-4-3, the front 3 are usually very fluid and interchangeable around a false 9 or target man who I'm expecting to be Jimenez for the most part, but we're not finished buying yet.

Defensively, Willy Boly is a beast who is gonna be massive fun I hope. Connor Coady as a Prem level sweeper? We'll see.
