1) politics threads taking over ILE

2) very online podcast leftists taking over politics threads

3) hardline classic rockists who obssess over classic rock taking over ILM

4) poptimists become radicalized as a result, now only listen to r&b and teenpop

5) snide cinema bores

6) disgusting savages w strong opinions abt whether prawn and rocket pizza is a sandwich and how best to eat one while pooping at work

7) people oversharing and wallowing in depression drama on mental health threads

8) every time i see old posts of mine i feel like a jackass because my online persona is approx 10^6 times more argumentative, negative and obnoxious than my IRL persona and ILX doesn’t have the accountablity that, say, facebook has

9) because the subaltern cannot speak

10) not wanting to share my secret weapons now that i am an actual performing dj irl (sorry to my bobbins thread bros)

11) tombot trolling the sneaker thread

12) making six figures and bennies leaves less time for internet fuckery @ work

13) miss my old friends and too haughty to make new ones

so i guess ... all of the above?

and not really knowing how to be the change i want to see on ilx

1), 2) - i blame trump, and i get it, but yeah i don’t need to be thinking abt trump this much and it’s a bit anxious-making to see people who are a lot “safer” than me in trump’s america freaking the fuck out every day

3), 4) hard to imagine something like basement jaxx or lcd soundsystem drawing the diverse ILM tribes together again and i miss that communal experence

5) people used to talk a lot about themselves and their feelings, now i feel there is a lot of discussion of other people and a lot of projection

I'd never recommend it for anyone else, but getting really tweaked on caffeine and writing a long screed that completely misses the point in the conversation, only to never open that thread again is my horrible form of catharsis

But tbh my ilx usage has waned bc work takes up most of my time and when im not at work im enjoying my life (goin fr brewskies w buddies, making love to hunnies, and spending time on hobbies)

as far as a communal experience, I realize I don't necessarily contribute to it but the artists I want to talk about have very little overlap with steely dan the artists that get talked about en masse
