as far as a communal experience, I realize I don't necessarily contribute to it but the artists I want to talk about have very little overlap with steely dan the artists that get talked about en masse

its interesting to me when ppl list what they dislike abt ilx and it’s all things that were maybe true for a while like 10 or more years ago. do we even know *why* we dislike something, or just dislike it and lazily grope around for a reason. it’s like if someone said ‘i hate apples, they’re so uh... salty’. not saying ilx is good (it’s bad)

yeah speaking of communal experience, twin peaks thread s3 thread was really great ... and i guess this explains why the book and movie threads are pretty busy

maybe it's that we're all just online all the time and being online and looking at facebook / twitter / cable news is our communal experience which is a miserable communal experience honestly

maybe we all need to go on a hike next weekend and then compare notes on our hikes on ilx (this thread already exists, i know!)

But, being sentenced to life in a cell with a bunch who were there before you, and they all laugh at some joke you don't understand because you weren't there at the time..

On a slight digression, having been browsing quite a lot of old threads recently, I think 2001 - 2004 was peak ilxor. It was friendly, intelligent, sociable, interesting, sociable, fast-moving and people had more interesting and cute problems (eg crap jobs, flat sharing/room mates, travel on a budget). And there was a greater insight into peoples' off-board lives which i miss.
