why is this still happening
― princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 17 August 2018 12:38 (five years ago) link
Because a bunch of 1975 obsessives got butthurt about someone's opinion.
― Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Friday, 17 August 2018 12:42 (five years ago) link
i cannot think of anything worse than yesterday's conversation except you continuing it by being smug, so please, this isn't remotely from a place of beef, stop it
― princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 17 August 2018 12:43 (five years ago) link
Well, you did ask the question!
― Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Friday, 17 August 2018 12:44 (five years ago) link
all of you head over to the mitski thread for a cool-off pls
― imago, Friday, 17 August 2018 12:45 (five years ago) link
I have been asleep for the past six to seven hours and have had the apparently objectionable review taken down, so unless I have spontaneously developed the ability to sleep-post and have those posts be invisible upon waking up, the reason this is still happening is not me
― aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Friday, 17 August 2018 12:45 (five years ago) link
no one is mentioning you itt rn and i will encourage everyone to never mention you again and hopefully that continues for the rest of time
― princess of hell (BradNelson), Friday, 17 August 2018 12:49 (five years ago) link
look, I'm sorry? as I said I was deliberately staying out of this thread before and I'm not the person who brought me into it by name

So... anyone want to talk about the new 1975 material?
― Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Friday, 17 August 2018 16:01 (five years ago) link
personally i hear more afrobeats than 'tropical house' in its rhythmic dna
― Vapor waif (uptown churl), Friday, 17 August 2018 16:08 (five years ago) link
Re the new single I don’t have a problem w the approach musically at all, I agree that lyrically it feels like a bit of a step down and maybe not a single that sticks with you but “the sound” is kind of an imperfect record also... idk to me it’s ok
― Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Friday, 17 August 2018 16:11 (five years ago) link
I really don’t get the comparison to “the sound” sonically, lyrically I think “tootime” is really simple and direct in a way that complements the breezy atmosphere of the music well
― k3vin k., Friday, 17 August 2018 16:28 (five years ago) link
I can take or leave either single, and while I didn't like "Love It If We Made It" I prefer the 1975 when Healy gets creepy over mid tempo ruminations ("A Change of Heart" might be my favorite 1975 song
― morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 17 August 2018 16:33 (five years ago) link
It may end up being the kind of track that is a bit of a "light relief" moment after a more emotionally heavier section of the album, from the sounds of it.

My favourite 1975 song is either 'Paris' or 'Lostmyhead' ...

I haven't read what Katherine wrote so I am not saying this is what she did at all. There's this thing in music criticism that mostly happens on twitter, sometimes on small blurbs outlet like Singles Jukebox and even on ILX, that I just can't stand. Some critics will just truly dismiss music and barely explains why, like it would be self-evident that band shouldn't make music, like the notion of 'different strokes for different folks' never existed. To even like the song is some sort of injury to 'good taste'. The thing is, sometimes some people really love that song, they will have built a particular emotional connection with and suddenly to have this particular emotional connection seen by the experts on the field as a character fault, well it hurts. I understand one shouldn't take those personally but it does hurt.
This is shit Lex used to do all the time here and it was truly infuriating. Part of it is because the lines between writing music criticism as a professional and just being a music critic writing for fun on many different online outlets have been obviously blurred. However, if you claim any professional title to music criticism and you dismiss music people love without doing proper research as to why they love it, or if you just can't be arsed to be respectful of what other people like, then I suggest to get ready to be called a troll, even if it it not true at all.

i too yearn for the pre social media days when all disagreement was non-dismissive and replete with 'different strokes' caveats

To “two-time” is to be unfaithful in a relationship or to sleep with multiple women at the same time without informing any of them.
Taking the theme of the album, online relationships, into consideration, Matty could be saying this in a satirical manner, poking fun at society.
Hypersexualization in the media is a prevalent and pressing issue in the 21st century. Matty might be suggesting that our society makes it easy to be led into temptation.

the whole No Rome EP that Matty & George produced is out now and is quite enjoyable. a sped up loop from Narcissist (which Matty sings on) forms the base for TOOTIME
