Don't need the wheels, which are nice but small (I have generic). But for 4 to play you need another two controllers, whether two Joy cons, two pros, a pro and joycon, etc.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 21 August 2018 23:18 (five years ago) link
wait, how can you have just one joycon? switch comes with two ...
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 21 August 2018 23:19 (five years ago) link
I guess I was thinking of the two halves as one controller
― Mordy, Tuesday, 21 August 2018 23:45 (five years ago) link
Playing with the little half-controllers destroys my hands pretty quickly.
― DJI, Wednesday, 22 August 2018 00:04 (five years ago) link
just got MK8 myself. does the gamecube controller and adapter work with it? i'm probably getting that for Smash anyway
― Nhex, Wednesday, 22 August 2018 00:47 (five years ago) link
i assume any controller works for mario kart all you need is a few buttons and a stick
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 22 August 2018 01:05 (five years ago) link
ok i thought grandia was a pretty random choice for a port but saints row 3 easily outdoes it

another indie direct next week for pax games
Tune in 8/28 at 9am PT for a new #Nindies Showcase video presentation highlighting multiple unannounced indie games coming to #NintendoSwitch!Watch it live here: https://t.co/qcN9TpZwnp pic.twitter.com/JwjO7PEGjg— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) August 23, 2018

The drumbeat never stops. In the first few months after the Switch launch there were a few items about some indie devs being frustrated with NoA in particular about access to the developer program but even with a more tightly controlled developer program it seems clear that indie games are a pillar of Nintendo’s value proposition for this platform, not an afterthought.

Quacamelee seems perfect for the Switch, not least because it was on the Wii-U. Sequel just came out, I wonder when they will make an appearance? It's a great example of a game that (from the looks of it) I would prefer on the Switch to the PS4.

Really hoping for an “available today!” for Towerfall at this Nindies presentation.

hoping for pyre soon if we're getting the other 2 supergiant games

I’ve had Towerfall on computer this whole time but syncing PS3 controllers and plugging in over HDMI has only mostly worked at best so I’m jazzed for Switch.
― faculty w1fe (silby), Tuesday, 28 August 2018 16:20 (five years ago) link
i've been playing Into the Breach quite a bit (the mac port was released a couple weeks ago). there are things i love about it (the central concept of knowing what the enemy is going to do every turn, then planning out your response to it, knowing exactly what the results will be before you do it), and things i don't (the enemy AI is wack sometimes. and despite having a variety of environmental effects for many stages - tidal waves that destroy tiles, volcano blasts, etc - all of the levels start to seem the same after a while, just with different units on top of them)
― Karl Malone, Tuesday, 28 August 2018 16:20 (five years ago) link
slay the spire also does the thing where it shows you exactly what the enemy is gonna do on their next turn and the gameplay is mostly reacting to it in advance. it's a good system
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 28 August 2018 16:25 (five years ago) link
I've heard good things about Towerfall but have no idea what was really going on there. I've heard good things about Undertale but have been intentionally avoiding information. But I think the sleeper hit here is that asshole goose simulator.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 28 August 2018 20:04 (five years ago) link
Towerfall is one of the best multiplayer games of all time

i still haven't played Undertale and have managed to not absorb any info about it
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 28 August 2018 20:30 (five years ago) link
another direct tomorrow night for Dragalia Lost, the upcoming Nintendo x Cygames mobile rpg. not really switch related (unless they throw it on here too like Pokemon Quest) but i don't know where else to post about it
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 29 August 2018 04:48 (five years ago) link
Oh boy gacha RPGs

Anyone played the Switch version of Cave Story? I've never played (or heard of it before) but intrigued after a mention in a Hollow Knight review.
― Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 29 August 2018 23:13 (five years ago) link
cave story was kind of the origin point of indie games as we know them today, hugely influential game. it still holds up fine i suspect though i haven't played it in more than a decade
it was a freeware dojin game originally so feels weird to pay for it now but the switch version should be fine
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 29 August 2018 23:42 (five years ago) link
A general Direct seems like a safe bet for the first half of September. Surely something that hasn’t been announced yet will be shown, at least for next year, but I have no idea what. Lots of things would make sense but I don’t think there’s any decent insider info floating around in public. Maybe Retro’s game that was discussed before E3 will debut. Some folks have alleged a port of New Super Mario Bros U will appear. Everyone is frothing like a maniac for Animal Crossing and the mobile game is out so that would certainly make people happy if it’s ready to show. Yoshi might return from the void. Who knows!
― faculty w1fe (silby), Saturday, 1 September 2018 00:04 (five years ago) link
last shovel knight expansions coming out on my birthday, yay
― Arch Bacon (rushomancy), Saturday, 1 September 2018 00:11 (five years ago) link
i wouldn't expect them to show much for next year yet, at this time last year we only knew about Kirby and Octopath for 2018 stuff and most of the rest got filled in in January. i don't even remember what was in the Fall direct last year, i think maybe the big surprise there was Doom? it was mostly fall/winter 3rd party releases iirc.
― ciderpress, Saturday, 1 September 2018 02:09 (five years ago) link
tokyo game show is in a few weeks though and that may turn up some interesting 3rd party japanese stuff. still waiting on ace attorney to make its way onto here...
― ciderpress, Saturday, 1 September 2018 02:12 (five years ago) link
Hm last September had a fair amount of 3DS content too

has anybody tried out dead cells on switch?
― Paleo Weltschmerz (El Tomboto), Saturday, 1 September 2018 02:40 (five years ago) link
Um yes
I just started getting into it and it's totally amazing
― fgti is for (flamboyant goon tie included), Saturday, 1 September 2018 15:50 (five years ago) link
it looks amazing but most of the folks streaming it are on PC or PS4, but I guess it's built for controllers so it should translate well? I'm not allowed to get another metroidvania with a flashy color scheme until I wear out Steamworld Dig 2 though.
― Paleo Weltschmerz (El Tomboto), Saturday, 1 September 2018 17:37 (five years ago) link
Switch version reported to have some performance issues but that’s acknowledged by the developer and is their top priority.
― faculty w1fe (silby), Saturday, 1 September 2018 18:02 (five years ago) link
Yeah there is some slowdown sometimes
It completely kicks my ass, the rogue-like integration into this format is BRILLIANT, I get up to a busy section in Ramparts and die immediately tho it's very frustrating
― fgti is for (flamboyant goon tie included), Saturday, 1 September 2018 18:49 (five years ago) link
OK well, now I'm amazing at this game Dead Cells (not really) but I've gotten to the final boss and held my own (not at all)
― fgti is for (flamboyant goon tie included), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 06:07 (five years ago) link
I've spent my days relying upon a cool Ice Bow + Infantry Bow + double auto-crossbow combo with the "Tactics" maxed out, ignoring amazing legendary drops, and I did get to the final boss and was ah iced quickly but now I'm rebuilding with fiery plans and fire-sympathetic melee weapons and speed and rolls and efficiency
― fgti is for (flamboyant goon tie included), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 06:09 (five years ago) link
Is Dead Cells an intense button-pushy thing or can you get by with minimal skills and an interest in rambling around?
― Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 13:42 (five years ago) link
it's tuned somewhat difficult from what I've seen of it, more difficult than the Castlevania games it's inspired by at least
