I've heard good things about Towerfall but have no idea what was really going on there. I've heard good things about Undertale but have been intentionally avoiding information. But I think the sleeper hit here is that asshole goose simulator.

Towerfall is one of the best multiplayer games of all time

otm

So glad the goose game is coming to Switch

i still haven't played Undertale and have managed to not absorb any info about it

ciderpress, Tuesday, 28 August 2018 20:30 (five years ago) link

another direct tomorrow night for Dragalia Lost, the upcoming Nintendo x Cygames mobile rpg. not really switch related (unless they throw it on here too like Pokemon Quest) but i don't know where else to post about it

ciderpress, Wednesday, 29 August 2018 04:48 (five years ago) link

Oh boy gacha RPGs

Anyone played the Switch version of Cave Story? I've never played (or heard of it before) but intrigued after a mention in a Hollow Knight review.

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 29 August 2018 23:13 (five years ago) link

cave story was kind of the origin point of indie games as we know them today, hugely influential game. it still holds up fine i suspect though i haven't played it in more than a decade

it was a freeware dojin game originally so feels weird to pay for it now but the switch version should be fine

ciderpress, Wednesday, 29 August 2018 23:42 (five years ago) link

A general Direct seems like a safe bet for the first half of September. Surely something that hasn’t been announced yet will be shown, at least for next year, but I have no idea what. Lots of things would make sense but I don’t think there’s any decent insider info floating around in public. Maybe Retro’s game that was discussed before E3 will debut. Some folks have alleged a port of New Super Mario Bros U will appear. Everyone is frothing like a maniac for Animal Crossing and the mobile game is out so that would certainly make people happy if it’s ready to show. Yoshi might return from the void. Who knows!

last shovel knight expansions coming out on my birthday, yay

Arch Bacon (rushomancy), Saturday, 1 September 2018 00:11 (five years ago) link

i wouldn't expect them to show much for next year yet, at this time last year we only knew about Kirby and Octopath for 2018 stuff and most of the rest got filled in in January. i don't even remember what was in the Fall direct last year, i think maybe the big surprise there was Doom? it was mostly fall/winter 3rd party releases iirc.

ciderpress, Saturday, 1 September 2018 02:09 (five years ago) link

tokyo game show is in a few weeks though and that may turn up some interesting 3rd party japanese stuff. still waiting on ace attorney to make its way onto here...

ciderpress, Saturday, 1 September 2018 02:12 (five years ago) link

Hm last September had a fair amount of 3DS content too

faculty w1fe (silby), Saturday, 1 September 2018 02:26 (five years ago) link

has anybody tried out dead cells on switch?

Paleo Weltschmerz (El Tomboto), Saturday, 1 September 2018 02:40 (five years ago) link

Um yes

I just started getting into it and it's totally amazing

fgti is for (flamboyant goon tie included), Saturday, 1 September 2018 15:50 (five years ago) link

it looks amazing but most of the folks streaming it are on PC or PS4, but I guess it's built for controllers so it should translate well? I'm not allowed to get another metroidvania with a flashy color scheme until I wear out Steamworld Dig 2 though.

Paleo Weltschmerz (El Tomboto), Saturday, 1 September 2018 17:37 (five years ago) link

Switch version reported to have some performance issues but that’s acknowledged by the developer and is their top priority.

faculty w1fe (silby), Saturday, 1 September 2018 18:02 (five years ago) link

Yeah there is some slowdown sometimes

It completely kicks my ass, the rogue-like integration into this format is BRILLIANT, I get up to a busy section in Ramparts and die immediately tho it's very frustrating

fgti is for (flamboyant goon tie included), Saturday, 1 September 2018 18:49 (five years ago) link

OK well, now I'm amazing at this game Dead Cells (not really) but I've gotten to the final boss and held my own (not at all)

fgti is for (flamboyant goon tie included), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 06:07 (five years ago) link

I've spent my days relying upon a cool Ice Bow + Infantry Bow + double auto-crossbow combo with the "Tactics" maxed out, ignoring amazing legendary drops, and I did get to the final boss and was ah iced quickly but now I'm rebuilding with fiery plans and fire-sympathetic melee weapons and speed and rolls and efficiency

fgti is for (flamboyant goon tie included), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 06:09 (five years ago) link

Is Dead Cells an intense button-pushy thing or can you get by with minimal skills and an interest in rambling around?

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 13:42 (five years ago) link

it's tuned somewhat difficult from what I've seen of it, more difficult than the Castlevania games it's inspired by at least

ciderpress, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 16:06 (five years ago) link

Tune in 9/6 at 3pm PT for a new Nintendo Direct featuring around 35 minutes of information on upcoming Nintendo #3DS and #NintendoSwitch titles!https://t.co/vZbh2Ng6u1 pic.twitter.com/WVMdZYeGFv

ciderpress, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 16:34 (five years ago) link

presumably this will include their final pitch for the online service so if they were holding back any surprises for that, now's the time.

ciderpress, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 16:39 (five years ago) link

I decided this morning that the only excuse for terraria taking this long on switch is because it’s gonna have multiplayer on day one

If that turns out to not be the case I will get mad

Paleo Weltschmerz (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 17:11 (five years ago) link

didn't the terraria dev spend 3 years on some major update/overhaul of the game and then unceremoniously cancel it recently? that's probably why. i don't see why it wouldn't have multiplayer though regardless

ciderpress, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 17:21 (five years ago) link

Direct delayed to unspecified date due to earthquake

Having hit a great stopping point (for now) with Hollow Knight I'm going to go back to Doom. I'm worried I've totally forgotten how to play it, though, and the lag issues that hindered my experience on Switch might bug me even more following something as smooth as HK. And yet I've made all the progress with Doom thanks (I think) to gyro controls, and I'm worried that even if I bought it again for PS4 that the improved play will be hurt by the lack of gyro. I guess we'll see! At least it's pretty cheap on PS4 ...

ace attorney panel announced for TGS

this is what we're all waiting for

Yus!

Ace Attorney - a series of detective-themed visual novel games from Capcom, popular on Nintendo handhelds
panel - presentation and discussion from a group of several people
TGS - Tokyo Game Show
Tokyo - the capital of Japan
Game - in this context, video games
Show - fan expo

enjoyed captain toad quite a bit. there's like 80 levels and at least half of them are little marvels of design that are really satisfying even when they're easy to complete.

agreed, about half way thru chapter 3 at the moment
planning to get 'inside' next i think

I think I’d rather just play this on iPad tbh

Got Broforce yesterday and have been playing it nonstop. I badly want to finish off Yoku’s Island Express but I cannot put Broforce down.

(i don't know if that's true; just looking ta the box)

Mordy, Monday, 10 September 2018 14:19 (five years ago) link

tales of games are anime action-rpgs with fighting-game-esque combat mechanics. most of them have 2 player local coop too which can be fun if you have a friend who wants to sit through a 40 hour jrpg with you

Vesperia is one of the more highly regarded ones in the series but Microsoft paid to make it an xbox360 exclusive in the US for some reason so a bunch of the usual jrpg audience missed it before now

ciderpress, Monday, 10 September 2018 14:34 (five years ago) link

That’s the only one I played as I was Xbox only last gen. It was a beaut.
