Hey! What's wrong with MC Paul Barman?

octobeard, Monday, 3 September 2018 04:56 (five years ago) link

'gok wan dj set' is a perfectly proportioned and unflushable fragment just bobbing around my consciousness forever

ogmor, Monday, 3 September 2018 06:10 (five years ago) link

Is Mel C going to be there while they play her mixtape? Or is this actually a DJ set?

They just found the tape, she doesn't even know.

I just had to go to this for the weekend:

https://d265059lu1u7jc.cloudfront.net/site/uploads/2018/04/NCMF18_Full_05114018_FINAL.jpg

Keep in mind, two nights were evacuated due to lightning so no Miguel (or DJ Snake, or Revivalists and a few others). Basically a mash-mash of soundcloud rap, DJs and pseudo-hippie folk/jjam bands. People were happy and high but I was miserable.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 3 September 2018 16:52 (five years ago) link

I've heard of maybe three acts on that lineup...

stan in the place where you work (morrisp), Monday, 3 September 2018 16:55 (five years ago) link

I sort of liked Too Many Zooz, Rapsody and Jacob Banks. The Polish Ambassador was silly fun (and a great name!). Vulfpeck was like if Earth Wind & Fire was a Michigan frat band. Cashmere Cat is a big name, but I didn't give a poop about his performance.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 3 September 2018 17:17 (five years ago) link

Rapsody is good, isn't she?

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 3 September 2018 17:45 (five years ago) link

yeah, liked her. much better than the likes of Lil Gnar and Juice Wrld.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 3 September 2018 18:59 (five years ago) link

That graphic for "Aux Cord DJ'S" on Friday / day one - I'm trying to figure that out. Is that a group or are they saying that all the DJ's to the right are playing via aux cord? And that's a feature.

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Tuesday, 4 September 2018 07:39 (five years ago) link

Vulfpeck are really popular and talented musicians but yeah Earth Wind And Fire frat band is absolutely the description

Oh, they could play! They just couldn't stop playing.

NNE Proudly Presents - BE HERE NOW - Paisley's first All Day indie festival - Saturday 29th September 2018 - Paisley Town Hall.

Hosted by Fools Gold Indie Clubnite, get set for a full day & night of iconic indie anthems with some of the country's finest tributes with a truly festival feel;

Confirmed bands so far;

Ocean Colour Scheme - Recreating the classic sounds of Ocean Colour Scene is no mean feet. With an attention to detail often missed by tributes, these guys deliver a true "close your eyes and it could be the real thing" experience. For fans of OCS, you won't want to miss what is a powerful and anthemic homage to the one of the UK's song-writing giants.

Loaded - the UK's hottest Primal Scream tribute deliver all the band's hits with a big band sound. Backed by brass, percussion and backing vocalists, the band have been ensuring audiences get their "Rocks" off to the classic anthems of Bobby Gillespie's legendary indie rockers

The Muldoons - The Muldoons originally formed in Paisley in 1989 and developed their much loved guitar based songs on the indie scene through the 90s. The band reformed in 2017 and, after a sell out comeback gig at Paisleys Bungalow, went on to finish 2017 supporting Inspiral Carpets Tom Hingley. 2018 kicked off with a spectacular sold out headline gig at Glasgows legendary King Tuts Wah Wah Hut, followed by a great set at O2 ABC Glasgow

God Like Genius - The UK's leading tribute to the music of iconic songwriter Noel Gallagher, God Like Genius deliver a journey from early Oasis classics through to High Flying Birds anthems.
The six piece band brings the big sound required to do justice to the songs that defined a generation.

Appy Mundays - Reliving the heady Madchester vibes of the infamous Hacienda, Appy Mundays bring you the cult classics and best-selling hits of Manchester's number one baggy band the Happy Mondays.

The Complete Stone Roses - The Complete Stone Roses are one of the UK’s most well-known, most seen and most successful tribute bands. Selling out venues across the UK and Ireland regularly, they have helped to carry on the music of one of the UK’s most influential bands - The Stone Roses. As tributes go, these guys are top of the tree....

So join us for what will be one of Paisley's biggest music events of the year.

four months pass...

I have trouble believing that there's a worse lineup than this ever.
They probably have NRA-sponsored shooting games at the midway.

I am hoping beyond hope that Osbourne, Frehley and members of Dirty Honey and Charlie Bonnet III's band get together for a jam session at a dingy beer bar under the moniker Ozzy's Dirty Acehole.

two English metal bands from the 1970s probably have a strong crossover in terms of listeners who would sit through both, if not in dedicated hardcore fanbase

so let me explain, i'm going for MGMT and Beach House. getting YYY, Phoenix and Grizzly Bear (wink) seems like a bonus for $99.

That just like heaven festival should be called 10 year challenge festival. Most of those bands released probably their last best album in 2009.

I’d totally pay $100 to see them.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 7 February 2019 08:08 (five years ago) link

I kinda like that 10 year challenge festival idea... 2020 you get to choose a lineup of LCD Soundsystem, Vampire Weekend, Black Keys, Sleigh Bells, Caribou, Yeasayer and Deerhunter.

2021: Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, St Vincent, Girls, Destroyer, Florence and the Machine, Yuck, M83

And so on

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 7 February 2019 08:19 (five years ago) link

On 2028 you get Parquet Courts, Mitski, Rolling Blackouts CF, Idles, lets eat grandma and Carseat headrest

I mean I was assuming that's essentially its premise, rather than them having accidentally booked two dozen acts all strongly associated with a very specific era and demographic

the local media are generally unimpressed with the soul'd out festival lineup with the exception of leikeli47, i get the disappointment but the only one that really stands out is the continued inexplicable popularity of reggae mike love, who's above kadhja bonet for some reason

i like how noddy's puncture just made their logo their name in arial

still smarter than the logo approaches of "slillmarillion" and "afterslow"

i don't really have a choice but to call reggae mike love reggae mike love, there's literally no other way to differentiate him from non-reggae mike love

You can't see it but I had an epiphany (Champiness), Thursday, 14 February 2019 00:58 (five years ago) link

possibly the best lineup, not the worst, but the most-bemusingly-conceived overall festival?
