Why aren't they screaming at each other?
jfc I gotta go to bed
― frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:34 (five years ago) link
Well I don’t see Hamels starting game 1 now.
Morbs you are right, it’s just that instinctively I would have gotten more outs from Strop. And De La Rosa still available.
― Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:34 (five years ago) link
Dang six straight sliders to strike Bryant out and (following on Gameday) the last one looked like the only one in the strike zone
― timellison, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:40 (five years ago) link
It’s just that Black now has his second best reliever pitching whereas Maddon asked 2 starters in relief, if the Cubs win, its not because they outmanaged the opponent.
― Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:41 (five years ago) link
Cubs pitchers really meatballing the first pitch of the at-bat over and over again
― frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:42 (five years ago) link
please tell me no one actually calls Arenado and Story "Batman and Robin" and that it's something A-Rod just made up
― frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:44 (five years ago) link
I haven't heard it before tonight
― Bee OK, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:45 (five years ago) link
It’s a classic Arodism.

― frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:53 (five years ago) link
A nice time to remind everyone that the Rockies run differential is of +35. The less by a team that wasn’t in the negative.
― Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 04:53 (five years ago) link
whatsa wolters?
A-Rod just came out for littleball a la Joe Morgan. does he recall last October?

chris paul ass move by gore I love it
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 3 October 2018 05:02 (five years ago) link
wow if Gore doesn't swing there he'd probably be on 3rd w/ no outs right now
― frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 05:04 (five years ago) link
Great game.

Beautiful, just beautiful.
Really ugly strikeouts by Gore and Baez.

At least the right team won

Two games at home, only needed to win one of them, two runs scored in 22 innings, the Cubs can only blame themselves.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 05:11 (five years ago) link
what a nice morning
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 12:58 (five years ago) link
still thinking about Gore at 3-2 w/ no outs, the announcers saying "you really should not swing at this", and then Gore striking out on a curve that was like 8 inches out of the zone. I don't think they'd catch him stealing 2nd or 3rd so chances are the Cubs at least tie it. if only he'd listened to A-Rod. oh well
― frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 13:16 (five years ago) link
pretty representative game for this season's cubs, where they really struggled with run production for some reason. lots of losses where they got 1 or 0 runs.
― na (NA), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 14:09 (five years ago) link
I find it insane they won 95 games, considering everything that happened. They need another starter and probably another hitter. And one fewer shortstop.

we'll know in a week
― a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 15:34 (five years ago) link
probably, Cubs are a better team and you don't really get home field advantage against them
that said the Cubs have played an insane # of games in the last 5-6 weeks and it was starting to show. plus they burned 3 starters in that game.
― frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 15:39 (five years ago) link
home teams now 5-8 in wild card games
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 15:41 (five years ago) link
let's hope it's 5-9 tomorrow

lol, that hug was a funny and weird moment. i'm imagining there were plenty of cubs bros who were mad at baez for showing any sort of affection for a player on the other team during a wild card game, though. and although it wouldn't be a big deal the vast majority of the time, once of the announcers (i forget who) was correct in noting that it shouldn't be allowed to do that during a live play, because one of the runners on first or second could have tripped and fallen on the basepaths (for example) and arenado would've been hindered from throwing him out.
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 16:32 (five years ago) link
While I agree that the hug shouldn't happen while the ball is live, Arenado seemed intent on not making a play and went for the hug as much as Baez did.

would that be ruled differently if Arenado was trying to make a play? I remember the announcers bringing up something like that.
on a related note, Prince Fielder chatting up everyone who made it to first was one of my favorite things about him. Baseball's kind of a funny sport like that. in football and basketball it's natural to dislike the man who's on you because they're always in your face and/or shoving you around. you don't really get that in baseball.
― frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 18:17 (five years ago) link
doubtlessly that Arenado/Baez moment has inspired some solid slashfic.
