At a school I was working at this year they had switched to beef sausages because they had some Muslim students, and they were a vast improvement from the cheap bangers they had before, if a bit too salty.

yeah I can get some Turkish beef sausages but they're not widely popular here. I should say that merguez are easily available in my quartier & we eat them not infrequently but they're more spiced and thus more limited in application.

Square sausage, or lorne beef sausage, is one of the only things I get homesick for, with a nice floury bap and liberal brown sauce.

Australia, for all its British, Irish and Italian heritage really can’t do sausages well. Beef sausages are the staple and not good, bacon, is very much lacking and the Italian sausages seem somewhat dry. Maybe Australian pigs aren’t fat enough.

Best way to test that is to make your own sausages imo

here's a Controversial Food Opinion: Pringles are the best mass-market potato chips

― droit au butt (Euler)

they're great but i'm not sure they qualify even for the low standards of "potato chips".

dub pilates (rushomancy), Thursday, 18 October 2018 23:56 (five years ago) link

If it’s not a cooked cross section of an intact potato it’s not a potato chip

Grams making no bones about it

It's true that Pringles are Not Real Food but they recently had a short lived Brazilian BBQ flavour which erased my willpower the second I tasted it. If it was still available I would weigh 300 lb and live in a pile of non-recyclable silvered cardboard tubes.

Pringles are basically resultant paste, right.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Friday, 19 October 2018 03:21 (five years ago) link

more of a machine-extruded slurry. resultant paste is more personal.

Pringles are like wafer thin savory cookies made out of flour, potatoes and seasonings. Not a potato chip. I do find them good personally tho

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Friday, 19 October 2018 03:25 (five years ago) link

I never even thought about how pringles are not really potato chips. This is probably why I like them.

How we can talk about compositional authenticity on a thread where we’re talking about sausage

droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 19 October 2018 14:33 (five years ago) link

That only makes sense as a critique if sausages are to be construed as a mechanized simulation of an actual intestine

Pringles also rule because they are minimal surfaces.
