its with a heavy heart and much reflection that i say kyrie-marcus-jayson-marcus-al makes as much sense as any celtics starting 5

let jalyen and gordon goon out with the second unit, find some sort of form

btw its literally unbelievable how good marcus m has been this season

a second unit featuring jaylen, terry, gordon and aron should be able to destroy most teams' first units. then again, so should the actual current first unit. somewhere between now and the 2020 playoffs someone's going to figure out how to make all these pieces fit together.

it's sad to consider that there might be a different coach figuring these things out not too long from now

the celtics have 3 days off in a row this should be illegal

feel doing this is a start since it gives both units more of a clear offensive hierarchy, which the lack of was an obvs problem, like kyrie is #1 jayson and morris are 2a & 2b, and and al and smart are more facilitators/scorers in the flow type guys

then with the second unit jaylen and gordon dont have to worry so much about finding their spots they can just go out there and "be aggressive"

this can also be boiled down to simply letting the best 5 guys play together. beyond positional fit they are just having the best seasons so far.

yeah def, and finishing lineups can be situational, and if jaylen and gordon really start lighting it up obvs theres room to give them more minutes/put them back in starting

also theres just a temperament/style of play thing thing, think i mentioned this before, where the starting lineup was all deliberate heady skill guys and the bench unit was emotional swarming goons, and maybe its better to mix that up

in all seriousness tho every celtic except marcus morris started off the season looking like they just took a very long nap and theyve started to get on track one by one kyrie al and jayson are all doin stuff now i think its headed in the right direction

also worth noting the celtics have had the hardest sched in the league played a ton of road games etc, all the computer rankings still like them (tho not at a champ level)

i still think theyll be fine but we gotta get these jokes off in the meantime

yeah i feel confident theyll reach a level of fineness, but really they need to get it to clicking if they wanna make some noise

also imo there are legit concerns about brads offense, some sort of mini kerr type drama, like why really fuck w all this ball and player movement when u cld just destroy teams by running the kyrie/al pnr 50 times a game

they cld use a second very attacking ballhandler too tbqh

rozier has been legit awful. i checked his stats cos it seemed like he had such a good season last year but dude still shot 39% yikes.

yeah hes not a good scorer, can hit a catch and shoot 3 but is hopeless driving, just cant find makable shots inside the arc

also continually does that horrible thing where he gives up on a drive when he has a half a step on his guy

they shoulda sold high last season after he had all those trip dubs when kyrie went down. im sure they could bamboozle the suns still tho.

terry is dannys son tho so he cant trade him

btw noticed in the kyrie/smart configuration theyre using kyrie off the ball a bunch to get him looks on the move going toward the basket and it seems promising, smart is low key an excellent distributor which i dont really understand since teams dont actually have to guard him, but i guess its just they do guard him anyway, and tbf he can kinda hit an open shot/take an open lane if u give it to him and hes always going to be opportunistic so he doesnt make finding the right balance of guarding him and not guarding him easy

i mean, they're going to finish november having beat exactly two teams with winning records in the entire month. i'm not ready to admit they've done anything remotely resembling turning their season around yet.

tho tbf the knicks game does fit a pattern of them just getting wrecked by attacking guards even ones as lowly as trey burke, hopefully inserting smart into the starting5 will help with this

id prob be a little more surprised at them continuing to play at a throughly mediocre level than running off ten in a row, but i guess neither wld really surprise me

i mean theres prob a large aspect to their play so far thats just everyone randomly slumping at the same time, and then there are some real issues that need addressing too, but i mean theyve got the talent to be an elite team and in the nba talent usually wins out

(xp) yeah, neither would surprise me either. but for now i think i have to side with the "when someone shows you who they are, believe them" faction.

srsly tho if u look at kyrie, jayson, als game logs u can see them picking it up theyre all playing much better than at the start of the season

fwiw imo trading stars who signed with you as a free agents is a bad look if you want to continue signing guys like that, tho itd prob be forgivable to trade gordon if he never really gets on track and its part of some blockbuster to get brow or whoever

btw brow is putting up mvp level numbers and the pelicans are playing 500 ball
