i cant come up w a nice reason why these ppl w high follower counts wld do the embedded reply thing instead of just replying like a normal person

bcz if 9 ppl an hour ask you the same question, you can quote-reply one of them and forestall some of the future repeat questions

or if you love the attention, you can be bombarded with questions about your answer

comme ci, comme ca

lag∞n, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 03:11 (five years ago) link

right now shes in a embedded tweet fight about how she doesnt like millennials texting to tell u theyre there instead of ringing the doorbell which is admittedly kinda funny

lag∞n, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 19:22 (five years ago) link

I have a doorbell. Ring it. https://t.co/eJPTgmxjbm

twitter hardmanning is the stupidest hardmanning

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 20:47 (five years ago) link

oh lol it is clearly not hardmanning in context of literally discussing doorbell ringing but sure resembles hardmanning out of context

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 20:48 (five years ago) link

i can see the appeal of setting your followers on some feeb. like imagine for a second that ilx was all conducted on twitter, and you had a massive following, you might be tempted to quote tweet whoever your bête noir is when they reply to you with some nonsense.

it just seems like if you have that kind of platform and reach... maybe use it for something less petty?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 22:13 (five years ago) link

yeah i like her too, shes a good follow, i even mostly enjoy rubbernecking her embed beefs lol

lag∞n, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 22:14 (five years ago) link

yeah ok scanning her twitter and it's so many embedded beefs, a few is one thing but this just looks pathetic and yes, petty. people on twitter like this are so tedious

flappy bird, Thursday, 20 December 2018 00:34 (five years ago) link

my personal preference is that if academics are going to argue all the time on twitter, which I am all for, I’d appreciate if they argued with people who were worth their time, because it might actually lead to some interesting discussion. but that is not how you amass followers and likes and rts and I’m sure they understand that

k3vin k., Thursday, 20 December 2018 05:28 (five years ago) link

there are plenty of otherwise interesting accounts Ive just decided to unfollow because I didn’t really feel like I was learning anything other than how to make fun of dumb people

flopson, Friday, 4 January 2019 22:27 (five years ago) link

it was fun for a minute but it's long been dead.

i deleted the app from my phone on new year’s. it was just too much negative energy, made even people i’d otherwise like seem small and petty, overconfident in dumb moralisms. and the memes and gifs and takes are all bad

tbh wish I had the courage to delete my account and not just the app on my phone :/

marcos, Saturday, 5 January 2019 00:23 (five years ago) link

do what I did - set the age on your profile to <13. you'll then have to upload a scan of your passport to unlock your account

this is too much of a faff so I've just left my account locked

twitter is bad not good (||||||||), Saturday, 5 January 2019 00:43 (five years ago) link

plus you have to go to the trouble of obtaining a fake passport for a child in your own name, which takes fucking forever these days

Karl Malone, Saturday, 5 January 2019 01:03 (five years ago) link

When you deactivate your account there's a month before it's properly deactivated & deleted forever. Logging in means you're back up and you have to wait another month if you want it gone. Done it many times and never made it to the end of a month.

Please do continue sharing and reminding people in the thread that empathy is important. This isn't about whether screen readers/twitter should be fixed. It's about what the experience of people is really like today and that by using characters like these you're harming people.

morality has always been hard, damn near impossible even. that's why compassion is so necessary.
