Its been ages since I've heard/thought about any of this stuff! Doubt I could get another album from the label (maybe a Michihiro Sato album actually), but love what I have. My faves apart from the Haino/Fushitsusha:

- Borbetomagus 'Live at Inroads' is one of their best ever sets
- Che-SHIZU 'Nazareth'
- Kazuki Tomokawa, get the album w/contributions from improv bassist Moto Yoshizawa -- its the album Dylan could've made after the '66 stuff (although it would've been the easy answer).
- Masayuki Takayanagi New Directions 'Live Independence'. Cracking stuff, with M on excellent form on the electrics, but also some good Spanish stuff on acoustic
-High rise 'Live'
- Finally 'Kan Mikami / Shin He Yon / Toshi Ishitsuka / Michihiro Satoh /' "Fukon", only a half-hour meeting between these Japanese and South Korean musicians, but I love Mikami's singing on the last track. I wanna pull that one tonight.

Avoid the Ayuo Takahashi album

first Toho Sara on PSF is great. second one, not so much.

best Ché-Shizu wasn't released on PSF (Glimmering Star).
Marginal Consort have always been a disappointment.

marginal consort were utterly amazing at instal this past w/end - far and away the musical highlight - tho I can see how their space/time magic might be difficult to capture on disc

in a similar vein - group improv/drone - i've really enjoyed the two exias-j albs I've heard on PSF

can't really go wrong w/ any kaoru abe on PSF if you have a taste for post-ayler sax blat, and kousokuya are a interesting companion/side dish to the killer klassic fushitsusha discs

the first musica transonic alb is still prob my fave Nanjo assblast

re: Abe. I think "Mort À Credit" (I remember Nick Cain of Opprobium 'fame' giving that a glowing rev) got a reissue? Sorta curious about that.

The Michihiro Sato is really good. Floating Koto improvisations that will whisk you away. Another one I like is the Gaseneta, hysterical, ragged, badly recorded and over the top. It reminds me a bit of the old Dischord band Void. It may not be as good as I remember because it's been years since I've listened to it. The two Cinorama releases are things of beauty. The first three Tokyo Flashbacks are ace too. I would avoid the Dislocation disc.

The first Kyoaku No Intention disc is great; the second (live) one, not so much.

Starting in 2016 Black Editions will begin to issue P.S.F.’s lost classics in high quality, definitive editions; Most of these albums will be released on vinyl for the first time ever.

Renowned artist such Keiji Haino, Fushitsusha, High Rise, White Heaven, Kaoru Abe, Kan Mikami, Acid Mothers Temple, Musica Transonic, Masayoshi Urabe, Moto Yoshizawa, Che-Shizu, Michio Kadotani and many more all had seminal works that were first issued by P.S.F. Over the past 30 years, these artists have created one of the world’s most vital and original bodies of music.

Though often shrouded in mystery and sometimes pressed in limited editions that barely made it out of Japan, the albums of the P.S.F. catalog have nonetheless achieved a legendary status. Ranging from psychedelic rock, folk and punk to jazz, free improvisation and the avant-garde, the P.S.F. catalog has been defiantly eclectic and uncompromising.

As the label founder Hideo Ikeezumi told us- “I only wanted to release music on PSF that refused to limit itself to genres, that had zero commercialism, that possessed “kokoro” (heart), and that had a feeling of freedom. In that sense, I was heavily influenced by Masayuki Takayanagi. I was very much affected by something he said when I was 19 – that an artist should put their life on the line in order to express themselves.”

It is the mission of Black Editions to continue that legacy. Working in full cooperation with P.S.F., its artists and its founder Hideo Ikeezumi, all material will be re-mastered from the highest quality sources. This will be the first time many of these albums will be available outside of Japan.

Coming in 2016 will be definitive editions of Fushitsusha’s 2nd Live, the original version of High Rise II, the Tokyo Flashback compilation, Che Shizu’s A Journey and through special arrangement with the artist- Keiji Haino’s classic 1981 debut Watashi Dake?.

I saw that the other day (Makoto Kawabata had posted about). PSF was a big deal to me in college, and this news made those days seem a long time ago. RIP

Those records will always be with me.

this Tokyo Flashback reissue is totally sweet, great pressing, nice packaging, sounds even better than I remembered (I had it on a tape-trade cassette back in the day)
