Sadly there is nothing I've seen coming out on Switch that I'm excited about at all, but I'm generally a Nintendo 1st-party AAA title kinda guy. I've got my Mario, Kart, Smash and Zelda.

XXP I don't mind if they reuse the BotW engine, but I really hope the next Zelda is as different from BotW as BotW was from previous Zeldas. I had no idea Dusk was headed to Switch, I found out about that game only recently and it looks like a blast.

days of being riled (zchyrs), Thursday, 10 January 2019 18:56 (five years ago) link

last thing I saw on dusk said that the developers were working hard on the console releases, with switch prioritised over PS4/xbone

theres been rumblings that the 2d zelda team may have a game coming

ciderpress, Thursday, 10 January 2019 18:57 (five years ago) link

the yoshi game looks great presentation-wise but those games don't always get the gameplay into a satisfying place where it's not just too easy or too slow all the time

yoshi games seem like the place where mediocre nintendo ideas go to die. (i don't count SMW:Yoshi's Island as a Yoshi game).

Karl Malone, Thursday, 10 January 2019 19:00 (five years ago) link

i havent played woolly world but it got a lot of 'this one's actually good' when it came out

ciderpress, Thursday, 10 January 2019 19:02 (five years ago) link

i'll play frostpunk on whatever system it comes out on (that i own) first. any word on whether it's coming out for switch? i kept hearing about a mac port but no news in a while.

Mordy, Thursday, 10 January 2019 19:09 (five years ago) link

no clue, those sorts of pc strategy games dont always bother with consoles because of how kb+m dependent the gameplay is. don't know if thats the case for that one in particular

ciderpress, Thursday, 10 January 2019 19:11 (five years ago) link

as a counterpart to anticipated, what IPs do people wish would get new life on switch

advance wars and F-zero for me

twitter is bad not good (||||||||), Thursday, 10 January 2019 21:37 (five years ago) link

f-zero sure. i think all the other Nintendo owned franchises i like are active

ciderpress, Thursday, 10 January 2019 21:45 (five years ago) link

def want a switch warioware or rhythm heaven

ciderpress, Thursday, 10 January 2019 21:46 (five years ago) link

1080!

DJI, Thursday, 10 January 2019 21:48 (five years ago) link

And a new Wave Race would be fantastic.

DJI, Thursday, 10 January 2019 21:50 (five years ago) link

jsut want them to freaking let me make a 3ds a controller and give me the zelda four swords/crystal chronicles/et al gaggle of games i crave. THE WII U WAS SO CLOSE TO GETTING IT RIGHT i'm still salty about this

i mean i guess if i don't get to change the rules of reality, fuckin, idk, uniracers i guess

suggest boban (Will M.), Thursday, 10 January 2019 21:50 (five years ago) link

they're rereleasing crystal chronicles on here idk if it'll have local co-op though or just online

ciderpress, Thursday, 10 January 2019 22:10 (five years ago) link

bubble bobble

also plz remake galaxy I & II for switch

Mordy, Thursday, 10 January 2019 22:37 (five years ago) link

those games don't need a remake they look fine blown up to hd res bc it's all color and shape no fancy textures

ciderpress, Thursday, 10 January 2019 22:45 (five years ago) link

they should put them on switch though i agree

ciderpress, Thursday, 10 January 2019 22:45 (five years ago) link

they'd have to rebind galaxy bc wii controls but should be easy im-totallyuninformed-o

Mordy, Thursday, 10 January 2019 22:50 (five years ago) link

why can't they just convert it to the two pads/two hands setup?

Nhex, Thursday, 10 January 2019 22:52 (five years ago) link

yeah! exactly!

Mordy, Thursday, 10 January 2019 22:52 (five years ago) link

yeah i dunno how they'd do the pointer to collect the gem things but that's not really core to the gameplay anyway iirc and the spin move can just be a button and not a waggle

ciderpress, Thursday, 10 January 2019 22:53 (five years ago) link

Would love Galaxy on Switch. As for what I'm looking forward to ... who knows. My kid wants Animal Crossing, I suppose Metroid could be good. Um, what else? Doom sequel? I loved Luigi's Mansion on Gamecube. Did Mark of the Ninja ever come out? My Friend Pedro? I assume we'll get a WarioWare. Those games are so simple and dumb I'm surprised we haven't gotten it yet.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 10 January 2019 22:55 (five years ago) link

mark of the ninja happened but the port was apparently bad dunno if they've patched it up since

ciderpress, Thursday, 10 January 2019 22:57 (five years ago) link

Josh have u played Breath of the Wild yet

xp still very curious myself about The Messenger, will probably get it in a sale

Nhex, Thursday, 10 January 2019 23:05 (five years ago) link

Tecmo Bowl is too hard. I need Tecmo Super Bowl to reduce the probability of my play being guessed.

Sufjan Grafton, Thursday, 10 January 2019 23:25 (five years ago) link

probably impossible due to NFL and NFLPA license agreements?

Sufjan Grafton, Thursday, 10 January 2019 23:26 (five years ago) link

Oh yeah Metroid! Isn't there a Metroid Prime game coming out this year?

DJI, Thursday, 10 January 2019 23:30 (five years ago) link

it's coming out eventually but it hasn't been dated for this year officially

I have measured out my life in coffee shop loyalty cards (silby), Thursday, 10 January 2019 23:39 (five years ago) link

it'll probably be the last game out of all the things that are currently announced

ciderpress, Friday, 11 January 2019 03:32 (five years ago) link

a good new reboot would be cool but i'd appreciate more new flagship series, not so much the nintendo version of a popular genre (like Splatoon 2) but instead just new directions like...Pikmin (which i've never played) ?

Karl Malone, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:04 (five years ago) link

Splatoon is barely a "Nintendo version of popular genre", it's as fresh as anything they've made imo

ciderpress, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:11 (five years ago) link

i like splatoon a lot. but it's a team-based first person shooter. it's a cool spin on it!

Karl Malone, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:14 (five years ago) link

it's not a fps!

ciderpress, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:14 (five years ago) link

but yeah i get what you're saying but i have no idea what stones they could have left unturned at this point

ciderpress, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:20 (five years ago) link

xp

ok, yeah, lol

it mostly plays like one, though. there are different abilities and ways to hop around the levels and whatnot (kind of like overwatch). anyway, it's all silly, i wasn't trying to make some sort of statement about splatoon, i just want more things that feel genuinely new.

Karl Malone, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:23 (five years ago) link

it's so hard to make something like that in 2018 though

ciderpress, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:26 (five years ago) link

2019

ciderpress, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:27 (five years ago) link

:D i've done that about 20 times this year already. but yeah, i agree. not saying it's easy. but nintendo made it's name on occasionally changing the game, so i always hold out a little hope that they can do it again.

Karl Malone, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:29 (five years ago) link

ITS

Karl Malone, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:29 (five years ago) link

i do enjoy the beloved franchises and the reboots, too, of course. i look forward to them - i'd love to see a new f-zero or metroid, and BotW was still incredibly fun to play despite not being a completely new genre.

Karl Malone, Friday, 11 January 2019 06:31 (five years ago) link

josh

have you played botw yet

twitter is bad not good (||||||||), Friday, 11 January 2019 07:30 (five years ago) link

Nope (and not Odyssey either, fwiw). I was busy with Dark Souls and a) Zelda seems like too much of a (generally) similar endeavor/commitment and b) I'm not a huge Zelda fan, having only ever played the first one. Lately been distracted by Smash Bros. and getting ready to play some Spider-man on PS4, which looks fun. So Zelda (and Mario) gets punted again! But I'll get there, eventually, especially, if no big Switch releases come down the pipe. For example, not interested in Yoshi for the same reason I wasn't interested in Kirby, not interested in party games or JRPGs, not interested in turn-based strategy games, etc., so all's quiet on the Nintendo front.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 11 January 2019 12:59 (five years ago) link

josh

twitter is bad not good (||||||||), Friday, 11 January 2019 13:00 (five years ago) link

guys can we lead an intervention on josh pls

twitter is bad not good (||||||||), Friday, 11 January 2019 13:00 (five years ago) link

It's about time management! Between family, and movies, and books, there are only so many hours.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 11 January 2019 14:13 (five years ago) link

So, like, is the intervention to get me to play it?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 11 January 2019 14:13 (five years ago) link

I'm sure spiderman is good but c'mon dude

L'assie (Euler), Friday, 11 January 2019 14:14 (five years ago) link

I already said it's because I can't commit to another collect-and-explore open world epic right now. Unless Zelda is not like that?
