it's really about conversational health

Hypothetically, would it be defensible to create a social media platform and walk away, leaving it to police itself? (Assuming it remained privately owned)

what does social media manager for Sunny Delight make, is it like 25k, part time gig type thing, or $80k plus bennies baller job?
― calumy (rip van wanko), Monday, 4 February 2019 22:15 (five years ago) link
if someone is paying a tweeter $80K/yr they have too much money

how does that drink make any money. i mean the whole world turned on actual orange juice 15 years ago because of the sugar content
― calumy (rip van wanko), Monday, 4 February 2019 22:21 (five years ago) link
Kind of grimly fascinated as to whether this is a genuine ploy to get attention for the brand in the worst way possible or just a disgruntled employee trying to get fired and failing, anyway yes haven't seen sunny d in 20 years

Or part of an individual's larger set of responsibilities with the company. Kind of doubt it with some of these weird/ironic brand accounts, but you never know.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 04:48 (five years ago) link
all the brands and blue checkmark people riffing joeks on that tweet is a good representation of how abysmal twitter culture is
― diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 05:14 (five years ago) link
i suspect a brand would have a devoted twitter person & pays them handsomely bc of the cost of PR fuck ups
― ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 08:59 (five years ago) link
there is no pattern. sometimes it's contracted out to a specialist agency. sometimes it's in-house. rarely are the people actually doing the tweeting paid well.
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 12:16 (five years ago) link
Yeah can't believe anyone would be paid well for tweeting for a brand (this odd mix of marketing and customer service), part of the reason I thought it was genuine.

I probably shouldn't have been surprised to see his name in this article, but if you're wondering what erstwhile tweeter pisspiggranddad is up tohttps://splinternews.com/one-of-the-worlds-most-iconic-craft-breweries-is-unioni-1832439046
“Anchor is a San Francisco institution that used to be known for being a good job,” Brace Belden, a part-time worker in the Anchor racking room who has worked at the brewery for a year and is a member of the 8-person organizing committee, told Splinter.
