There's a video of Neil doing a beautiful version of "Birds" from a CSNY Fillmore East show on the site right now....is that something that's been released before??

a bunch of video stuff that's new or i never noticed....in the 90s he did some weird "show" where it was model trains and they did funny voices for the little small model train model guys???

If so, I wonder if he ever ran into Ringo (of Thomas the Tank Engine game) during that period.

IIRC, those CSNY Fillmore shows were filmed for a movie that didn't come out, but Neil hijacked the footage for Journey Through The Past and other docs.

here's what I know:

Neil’s Comes A Time LP went through a variety of iterations before it was finally released in 1978. The original was Oceanside-Countryside, recorded in Fort Lauderdale and Nashville in early 1977. “Oceanside-Countryside was a record I felt really good about,” Neil wrote in a recent Times-Contrarian post. “It was quite a personal record, mostly made up of acoustic songs which had no bass or drums.” The LP was done and dusted – but Reprise suggested that Neil add more instrumentation to the mix. Uncharacteristically, he took his label’s advice and recorded the more fleshed out material that ended up dominating the released Comes A Time. But Oceanside-Countryside promises a more intimate listening experience. Neil calls it “a breath of fresh air.”

one thing I ignored until today was the CSNY 1974 set that came out a few years ago...some Neil gems on here

I can't think of any act I like more than Neil Young that I've lost track of more. That awesome streak of Le Noise, Americana and Psychedelic Pill seemed really promising - and that was only six years ago! - but now I don't know what the hell is going on.

the archives stuff is consistently great

as far as studio stuff, the only thing you've missed is Peace Trail which is really quirky and cool

Don't Be Denied off CSNY 74 is really great

I really like the Neil stuff on the csny 74 set, but yeah, the rest is pretty skippable. Pretty bloated.

re: Oceanside/Countryside, there was one more step before it became Comes A Time, which is the rejected title (and art) of 'Give To The Wind':

Comes a Time (which is a good album for sure)...but it's funny, I sometimes wonder in a couple cases if there were times when Neil was running low on cash...not that they are uninspired albums at all, but Comes a Time and Harvest Moon for how contrary he is usually those both seemed like times when he was like..okay we need something people are going to like - not a problem

i like the give to the wind cover a lot better than comes a time

one time I got invited to dinner by a Mormon couple & I went & they played Comes a Time

pretty much a nonstory, lol. "hmm it never occurred to me to release these things i've been talking about releasing for 25 years! i'll get right on it!"

Maybe if we all write personal letters to Neil explaining that we'd like to pay to hear some of his music before we die, he'll speed up

my then 15 yr-old daughter subscribed but spent more time (understanadbly) griping abt the phone app than bothering to navigate it

i haven't been on NYA in a while, not since the brief period when it was free.

i see they have stuck with the whole Replicate the look and feel of a file cabinet, on a computer screen, concept

personally i wish they would go even further back and replicate the look and feel of Winnipeg in the early 1960s, with all the people around town telling stories about Neil, and you can walk around the local venues of the time and see the Squires play. perhaps you could then talk to Neil and join his band, and then play music with Neil for 35+ years as his best friend and songwriting partner. all in NYA!

note to self in the year 2065: if you're reading this, maybe it's possible to do what you just wrote above. go check NYA and see if you can patch in an update that does all that, accessible only by looking at small hole cut into the back of the 2019 NYA's file cabinet.
