Love this one, that snaky dual synth line just ended up stuck in my head for ages and it made my ballot at the last minute.

I'm generally not seeking out anything like this during the year, so I'm thankful to get the introduction in the EOY rollout. This is delightful.

(not that I'll likely ever hear it again after Friday)

Is that Autechre track worth investing an hour in? Skipping through it it sounded like it was just an hour's worth of ambient drift?

“all.end” works a little better in the context of the nts sessions as a finale of totally exploded sound (which is why i didn’t vote for it despite spending a lot of time with it). but yeah, it’s worth spending time with
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:24 (five years ago) link
Silky is one of those tracks that in the hands of a different producer could have been something enjoyable but ultimately forgettable and (yes) probably wishy-washy but she's taken real care to craft a particular sound that feels unique. I don't think I've heard anything that sounds quite like that tiny-xylophone-in-a-bottle refrain anywhere else. Something about it's propulsion and the care of the sound design reminds me of peak-Booka Shade as well.

Hadn't heard this before. This is good.

The Peach track, that is
Love this! Matt DC OTM about the sound design.

this is nice enough but why am i getting the urge to sing popcorn by hot butter over the top of it

Because 'Popcorn' is one of the greatest songs of all time and this is also good?

it's always nice to come across tracks like this during EOY season, i don't really keep up with this sort of thing but there's always a few gems like this to enjoy
― ufo, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:30 (five years ago) link
yeah that wasn't necessarily a knock! :D xxp

43: Beach House – “Lemon Glow” – 202 points – 7 votes – 1 first place votevideo
Beach House
a flash in the pan― Stephen Bush, Saturday, November 18, 2006
http://www.thesinglesjukebox.com/?p=25111
“Lemon Glow” has dripping, reverberating guitar and a portentous vocal. It’s high drama of the Siouxsie and the Banshees gothic rock mode, but, in the hands of Beach House, is less theatrical and more unsettling. A stubbornly recurring loop oozes underneath Victoria Legrand’s dissipating vocal. For all its intensity, the song is striking for its lack of affect and its willful refusal of clarity or definition. This is staring-at-the-wall-when-you-can’t-feel-anything music. The percussive finale is not a crescendo but a doubling-down. – Jonathan Bradley
Does the Dead Sara title fakeout: not lemon Pledge, like you’d expect, but more citrus incense: a thick haze, reverbed well past the uncanny valley and sickly-claustrophobic, like breathing the air inside a weighted duvet. It isn’t enjoyable, necessarily, but carries more genuine atmosphere than I thought Beach House, the epitome of background music, was capable of. - Katherine St Asaph

i loved this album but this track felt pretty weak/odd as a lead single and i only enjoyed it in context of the album, surprised to see it show up
― ufo, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:35 (five years ago) link
This act has long since gazed itself to death.

They could use some deathgaze, come to think of it.

Peach: Bangs indeed, much more my kind of electronic than miss Hauf or Talabomachin. It's really about the first part and that sample for me though.

For a second I thought that was the same Stephen Bush that is now the Political Editor of the New Statesman and much cited on the UK politics threads but I think not. Stranger things have happened.

ha ha - Beach Trap House
I don't think I've heard anything that sounds quite like that tiny-xylophone-in-a-bottle refrain anywhere else.
It reminds me of Vitalic's 'Fanfares' a bit but, different agenda tho it may have, can't say it compares favourably with that myself.
― nashwan, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:39 (five years ago) link
I like this Beach House song but I tend to think of them as an albums act
― resident hack (Simon H.), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:41 (five years ago) link
Fanfares is all about the military snares and nothing without them deserves to be compared to it, favourably or otherwise, IMO.

I group this Kasper Marrott tune and 'Neutron Dance' together in my head but this one just sounds so much better on headphones or a big system. It's like a more euphoric update of 'Squance' by Plaid, or a signpost to a modern electrohouse that isn't awful.

Kinda think that's the Platonic title for an italo disco track in 2019
