Because 'Popcorn' is one of the greatest songs of all time and this is also good?

love the neil cicierega mix with 'bodies'

it's always nice to come across tracks like this during EOY season, i don't really keep up with this sort of thing but there's always a few gems like this to enjoy

ufo, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:30 (five years ago) link

Beach House

a flash in the pan― Stephen Bush, Saturday, November 18, 2006

http://www.thesinglesjukebox.com/?p=25111

“Lemon Glow” has dripping, reverberating guitar and a portentous vocal. It’s high drama of the Siouxsie and the Banshees gothic rock mode, but, in the hands of Beach House, is less theatrical and more unsettling. A stubbornly recurring loop oozes underneath Victoria Legrand’s dissipating vocal. For all its intensity, the song is striking for its lack of affect and its willful refusal of clarity or definition. This is staring-at-the-wall-when-you-can’t-feel-anything music. The percussive finale is not a crescendo but a doubling-down. – Jonathan Bradley

Does the Dead Sara title fakeout: not lemon Pledge, like you’d expect, but more citrus incense: a thick haze, reverbed well past the uncanny valley and sickly-claustrophobic, like breathing the air inside a weighted duvet. It isn’t enjoyable, necessarily, but carries more genuine atmosphere than I thought Beach House, the epitome of background music, was capable of. - Katherine St Asaph

i loved this album but this track felt pretty weak/odd as a lead single and i only enjoyed it in context of the album, surprised to see it show up

ufo, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:35 (five years ago) link

This act has long since gazed itself to death.

So far most tracks strike me as adult and urbane.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:37 (five years ago) link

They could use some deathgaze, come to think of it.

xp

I wanna hear a 2 chainz remix of this

resident hack (Simon H.), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:38 (five years ago) link

Peach: Bangs indeed, much more my kind of electronic than miss Hauf or Talabomachin. It's really about the first part and that sample for me though.

Nabozo, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:39 (five years ago) link

For a second I thought that was the same Stephen Bush that is now the Political Editor of the New Statesman and much cited on the UK politics threads but I think not. Stranger things have happened.

ha ha - Beach Trap House

I don't think I've heard anything that sounds quite like that tiny-xylophone-in-a-bottle refrain anywhere else.

It reminds me of Vitalic's 'Fanfares' a bit but, different agenda tho it may have, can't say it compares favourably with that myself.

nashwan, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:39 (five years ago) link

I like this Beach House song but I tend to think of them as an albums act

resident hack (Simon H.), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:41 (five years ago) link

Fanfares is all about the military snares and nothing without them deserves to be compared to it, favourably or otherwise, IMO.

here's our third glittery and jittery and ostensibly undiscussed identical stranger to round out the early morning dance party

another vote for 2 Chainz over Lemon Glow here

cool tune
the sun is glittering off passing cars perfectly with this

nxd, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:55 (five years ago) link

I voted for this. Glad that other people also like it.

silverfish, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:56 (five years ago) link

I didn't expect a track named after the Reykjavik airport to be italo disco. It's cool.

Nabozo, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 13:56 (five years ago) link

damn there was actualy some ILM discussion on lemon glow, but we had to go TSJ

I group this Kasper Marrott tune and 'Neutron Dance' together in my head but this one just sounds so much better on headphones or a big system. It's like a more euphoric update of 'Squance' by Plaid, or a signpost to a modern electrohouse that isn't awful.

Kinda think that's the Platonic title for an italo disco track in 2019

voodoo: you want to provide a link? the only lemon glow convo i found was of the "this rocks" variety.

YT's algorithm suggests a TED talk titled 'Pop Music Is Stuck on Repeat' as a palate cleanser after this track.

this one caught my ear big time on the nominations playlist, it's fun

The Beths

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:05 (five years ago) link

guess it's finally time to figure out what the beths sound like

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:06 (five years ago) link

i was thinking of this thread, but it looks like most of the discussion is general album stuff, not lemon glow specifically: Beach House - 7 (2018)

good song

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:09 (five years ago) link

would have been nice if i'd been able to find room to vote for something by the beths

ufo, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:09 (five years ago) link

yeah this one sounding better today but still not the one i repped

ciderpress, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:11 (five years ago) link

voted for the album but this is an excellent representative

resident hack (Simon H.), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:12 (five years ago) link

Another 'voted for the album' one for me but this is a highlight of the record (along with 'Not Running').

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:12 (five years ago) link

if I was gonna vote for a single track it'd have been "not running" xp!!

resident hack (Simon H.), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:12 (five years ago) link

more jazz students should start power pop bands

resident hack (Simon H.), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:13 (five years ago) link

xp to voodoo: i think when we do the albums poll (if moka wants to that is), there should be lots more room for ILX commentary. as a community, we like to discuss albums and artists, not singles so much unless it's in the genre threads.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:14 (five years ago) link

I voted for the Beths album but it occurs to me I don't know off the top of my head what a single one of their individual songs is called. It's probably the only straight-ahead indie rock record I needed this year and this clearly hasn't hampered my enjoyment of it at all.

No idea which song this is.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:14 (five years ago) link

beths album/song the epitomy of 6/10 decent indie. i mean sure it isn't bad music but...

that said it is a step up from sodding beach house

imago, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 14:17 (five years ago) link

i really really liked 'not running' off the beths album but i don't think it was even nommed. this a good song though

ooops heaps of xposts saying the same thing

if all the songs have drums this good i'm gonna check out the album

it does have a jazz drummer tbf to brad
