I wanted to say earlier, what impressed me about the session footage of them I've seen isn't even the more obviously showy stuff, it's how polished the vocals are

resident hack (Simon H.), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:01 (five years ago) link

i really love this song, supremely executed. the vocal is so sweet, the guitars so punchy.

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:01 (five years ago) link

sounds like a T-Mobile commercial

you voted for baby shark

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:02 (five years ago) link

Never was a big fan of the Clipse, but this Pusha T track is alright. I actually really like his flow on it, compared to the angly start-stop flow of trap folks like Rae Sremmurd, it's feels much smoother and skillful.

Tuomas, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:02 (five years ago) link

this is the beths song i liked

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:03 (five years ago) link

'Baby Shark' is more innovative than this.

pomenitul, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:03 (five years ago) link

Edginess aside, this is good landfill indie.

pomenitul, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:04 (five years ago) link

ilm comfort zone totality achieved

imago, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:04 (five years ago) link

innovation is overrated, has silicon valley not proven this

resident hack (Simon H.), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:04 (five years ago) link

Lol, wait what, Pusha T is from Clipse, Clipse was good. Had completely eluded me.

Nabozo, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:05 (five years ago) link

i'm going to listen to this song again, bc i think it is very good

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:05 (five years ago) link

Implying that 'Baby Shark' is overrated, pfft.

pomenitul, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:05 (five years ago) link

i didn't vote but if nothing else future me hates me was the song i listened to the most for sure, thanks to the level of craft i kept finding new stuff to like about it.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:07 (five years ago) link

the beths are quite good but they probably didn't need two tracks placing

― ufo, Thursday, January 31, 2019 12:00 PM (four minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Kinda feel this, but they do have a dedicated (and enthusiastic) thread, which probably helped.

jaymc, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:07 (five years ago) link

hello. Powerglide feels like an incredibly long time ago now but I dug in out the other day and it still bangs as hard as the first time I heard it

frame casual (dog latin), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:07 (five years ago) link

The rest of the poll is going to be Baby Shark-related insults. Cursed meme.

jmm, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:08 (five years ago) link

Whatever would’ve been the Beths song I’d vote for but i forgot to nominate it. Probably for the best though because vote splitting

I’d say there’s a good chance that album could make the top 10

josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:08 (five years ago) link

yup

resident hack (Simon H.), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:09 (five years ago) link

i knew i should've been listening to this band the whole time

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:09 (five years ago) link

The Beths are great, i'm long overdue on snagging the LP

omar little, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:10 (five years ago) link

"River Run: Lvl 1" is the best Beths song

seandalai, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:12 (five years ago) link

Will Camp Cope’s The Opener place? I thought it would have placed by now..

josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:12 (five years ago) link

I have been a diehard Kacey Musgraves stan since "Merry Go Round" but I still haven't quite figured out how "Slow Burn" became the single of choice. "Space Cowboy" and "High Horse" are far more innovative and better representations of her unique strengths. Even "Butterflies" and "Rainbow" are more interesting lyrically.

Indexed, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:13 (five years ago) link

the album does improve towards the end yes xxp

imago, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:13 (five years ago) link

speed up "future me hates me" x 2 and put steve shelley on vocals you have a buzzcocks song

it's just really well-written, whatever you think of "indie" or whatever

budo jeru, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:14 (five years ago) link

I still haven't quite figured out how "Slow Burn" became the single of choice

it's the guitars

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:14 (five years ago) link

I finally figured out what Kanye's beat on the Pusha track reminds me of

Paper Planes

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:15 (five years ago) link

Yeah, I thought the same.

pomenitul, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:18 (five years ago) link

xp it's also the stunning opener for the album that for many was probably their first time listening to musgraves

16: Krystal Klear – Neutron Dance” – 294 points – 13 votes
video

The closest thing to a good New Order single from last year. – ufo

"Neutron Dance" summons horrible waking nightmares of Glenn Frey in a wrinkly summer-weight tweed suit, Ray-Bans and moussed-back hair, baring his soul. – tracerhand (2006)

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:21 (five years ago) link

I would have voted for "The Opener" but I had it on my tracks playlist in 2017

resident hack (Simon H.), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:22 (five years ago) link

"River Run: Lvl 1" is the best Beths song

suggest boban (Will M.), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:22 (five years ago) link

I assume this is not a Pointer Sisters cover.

MarkoP, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:22 (five years ago) link

this sounds like a Limmy song

imago, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:23 (five years ago) link

This song just makes me want to listen to Wicked Game.

That, *and* "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight"

dorsalstop, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:23 (five years ago) link

ok the main melody of this is fucking maddening, ugh

imago, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:24 (five years ago) link

I nearly made "Neutron Dance" my #1. But then I had a horrible night of broken sleep, where it felt like I was earworming it constantly. The next time I played it, the spell was broken.

ILM's Top 77 Pastiches of 2018

pomenitul, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:25 (five years ago) link

Is this rollout always this unpleasant? The sniping is quite tiring.

L'assie (Euler), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:25 (five years ago) link

such a great ep this

nxd, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:25 (five years ago) link

"Neutron Dance" is in the same wheelhouse as a lot of Lindstrom/Todd Terje jams that I've enjoyed, but it feels a bit lifeless.

jaymc, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:25 (five years ago) link

this sounds like a Limmy song

Where you in Birkenhead recently? Seriously I overheard someone say the exact same thing when I was trying on some trousers

ILM's Top 77 Pastiches of 2018
#78 is ironically Greta Van Fleet.

MarkoP, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:26 (five years ago) link

i put this one at #25, i liked it

omar little, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:26 (five years ago) link

Euler: yes, you kinda have to embrace it.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:26 (five years ago) link

Generally, I like it, too -- just not enough to vote for it.

jaymc, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:27 (five years ago) link

The sniping is unpleasant? Yours is my bizarro world, Euler.

pomenitul, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:28 (five years ago) link

have asked Don 'n' Glenn if they liked it?

Your sweetie-pie-coo-coo I love ya (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:28 (five years ago) link

Sniping was more artful/comical before lex bailed on us. He raised the level of sniping for everyone.
