lol I just looked at my ballot and my only placement was my #25

rob, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:16 (five years ago) link

Thanks, forks and Moka and seandadata - great work as ever

Jeff W, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:16 (five years ago) link

The #1 will have a shelf life shorter than Susanne Sundfor.

lol wut ILM is still in love with everything she does

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:17 (five years ago) link

Sundfor would be on the shelf in my house if I could buy it at decent price to put on it.

MarkoP, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:17 (five years ago) link

I won’t believe it until you’ve updated the playlist, forks

You have now!

If these are the true results I will treasure this track for the rest of my life.

Very well played, and chapeau to everyone who was involved in organising and executing this.

breastcrawl, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:17 (five years ago) link

Yeah, was listening to her yesterday.

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:17 (five years ago) link

Can definitely get behind that #1.

Hats off to the pollrunners, great work!

Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:18 (five years ago) link

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:19 (five years ago) link

Never heard #1 and I dig it. Had heard the Beach House and Simmy before and love them.
That's pretty much only ones I'd ever go out of my way to hear again.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:19 (five years ago) link

Good #1 but probably the list I've participated in with the least amount of stuff in my zone.

abcfsk, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:21 (five years ago) link

And now a song that should have been top 10 or even a good deal better
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8HoEvDh70Y

I'll just post this one. My ballot was full of afro-pop. Askamaya, Bana, Gbona and Club Controller could have had decent chances.

Nabozo, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:22 (five years ago) link

"toast" rules and i'll have to start following the dancehall thread

ufo, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:23 (five years ago) link

Yeah, that's great, would have been very happy to see it in the actual rollout.

emil.y, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:26 (five years ago) link

i was a little sad to not be a part of things this year, but Moka, Forks and Seandalai killed it - thank you all so much, i've got so much new stuff to listen to!!!

gr8080, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:27 (five years ago) link

Toast was my #1 ;_;

||||||||, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:32 (five years ago) link

I was so happy last year when moka agreed to help when I bounced from future poll running. VERY HAPPY as it turns out. Beautiful stuff.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:35 (five years ago) link

What was it about the fake number one that made it a joke?

saer, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:38 (five years ago) link

It was beloved everywhere else online 'cept round here

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:38 (five years ago) link

this poll has been kind of a de facto lurker poll for a couple years now
I'm here for saer.

campreverb, Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:39 (five years ago) link

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 31 January 2019 22:43 (five years ago) link

Discovering Koffee's four 2018 singles has been one of the great ancillary effects of the poll rundown for me.

Tim F, Thursday, 31 January 2019 23:25 (five years ago) link

Hahahahahahahaha called it.

Seriously though I expected Peggy to come in at like #13 or thereabouts but I love it when a song just quietly creeps up on people and this was THE ubiquitous jam of 2018 without ever really announcing itself as such. But I probably heard it in the wild more than any other song and it doesn't sound like anything else.

Matt DC, Thursday, 31 January 2019 23:26 (five years ago) link

yeah just listening to the radio i heard it as often on radio 1 as i did on nts

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 January 2019 23:54 (five years ago) link

I thought Beach House were Glumwave.

not telling you if the 1975 are on it or not

Oor Neechy, Friday, 1 February 2019 00:12 (five years ago) link

On the bobbins front it's a shame no tracks by ⣎⡇ꉺლ༽இ•̛)ྀ◞ ༎ຶ ༽ৣৢ؞ৢ؞ؖ ꉺლ have made these lists before, partly because I'd like to see those special characters on one of these lovely postcard images.

nashwan, Friday, 1 February 2019 00:15 (five years ago) link

JF: I like Empress Of! I've seen her live! I think of her as more of an indie artist than an alt-pop one though. If you meant I could've crossed her over to spanish language, sure.

vertical lines: I think of 1975 as "rock" though i'm not entirely sure what their fans want to call them or if it matters.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 1 February 2019 00:25 (five years ago) link

I was just going by the song itself. There's nothing rock and/or indie about it. Alt-pop for sure. It's been a good long time since she lived in shambhala land.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 1 February 2019 00:27 (five years ago) link

I guess i think that empress of track is more likely to show up on an indie rock radio show than on a pop playlist. it's slightly mopey. like maybe it's more r&B than it is pop OR indie?

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 1 February 2019 00:30 (five years ago) link

It doesn't really matter, I suppose. Except to the 80,000 people who are looking at the thread from parts unknown lol
