it sucks when I like someone's twitter, but then they start posting 95% about sports. It's kind of weird how often this happens.

Twitter is good for sports, it's one of the few things the format really seems to work for

xp I refuse to actually post about the primaries, but I seem to be drawn to replying to people in an attempt to explain they have don't get how caucuses work

I was kind of kidding about the judo thing, but the problem is when I already have found my community, and the damn thing gets pulled out from under my feet when some guy who I normally read for, like, computer programming or who is part of that nebulous sphere of NYC media people who are normally very interesting suddenly decide to post several hundred times a day about basketball :(

i feel the same way about basketball guys who post low qual political opinions

love to treat politics like people treat programming, as both a truly enlightened art and something we should rewrite on a whim over the weekend

there are some good parallels w/people latching on to key figures that may or may not have good points but get a lot of enthusiasm, ending up with a workable solution only after a bunch of people who are less visible put in a ton of effort

srsly twitter needs to further unbundle follows. turn off RTs was the first step. have a classifier tag tweets (trained on self-tagged tweets) then u can choose which tags to follow

had my first tweet go semi-viral today (it’s at like 250 likes and counting, mostly from academic twitter), such a rush. it was impossible to get any work done all day just kept checking the feed

i don't even know who seth abramson is, but he's in the midst of a 65-tweet numbered thread

every time he says "hope you'll read and share" at the conclusion of the first tweet in his latest 65er I can't state exactly why but it makes me helpless with laughter. tonally it's just so tragic and hilarious

I have 4 accounts on Twitter, my own, two projects and one for work, there are always notifications from all of them and most of them are just like this "somebody has liked a tweet by somebody else" which I will see on my feed anyway, it's like they are scared I will be less engaged if they don't notify me of something, but all it does is make me notice how nobody reads my tweets, which is not good.

most of my notifications are 'have you read this tweet that's already on your timeline' uh hey twitter, this is the shit that will make me delete my account eventually

agree w/ this but also academic twitter is p awful in its own way, lots of bad opinions, awful memes about finishing dissertations, getting grants, or sitting through committee meetings, significant tedium and pedantry throughout

I prefer tedium and pedantry to quite a lot of alternatives
