a few of us went down about midnight but we hadn't bought tickets in advance and it was a total rammy, it was very much a 10pm "I'm in the mood to get drunk" impromptu decision to go out though so we should have known better

how was it inside? I remember going to see Shackleton and having to wash the inside of the tote bag I had been carrying cos the place was just so manky

It was fine inside except the bar staff insisted on pouring bottles and cans of beer into these plastic goblets that were an absolute liability on the dancefloor. Gotta say I don't remember Chambre 69 being that manky but that could have been booze related on my part :)

I made a New Year resolution to go out clubbing at least once a month but three out of my last four club nights out have been disappointing. The last Numbers thing at the Art School was a bit meh and went to see EZ at Subby and that was a let down too. Oh well, got to accept that you're going to get a dud every now and again I guess...

Anyway, we should definitely head out again sometime, I haven't got any nights out planned anytime soon but it'd be nice to catch up :)

G-Force died a month ago? Have to say that after the imports and soundtracks were going down because internet, the shop was losing a lot of its appeal, but they stuck around a long time. Good spot in town obviously.

two anecdotes:

The lads at my school used to wear Trespass jackets but they used to pronounce it like it was a French word even though they are made in Glasgow - Tray-Paaa.

The menu at The Grosvenor cafe sold many strange items - for example "Oxo Beef drink" (my dad used to drink this) and whatever you ordered was served on a red hot plate even if it was ice cream. The menu was very strangely worded too and we used to laugh at the descriptions like "half pizza pie portion" - you could also get "have pizza pie portion with fried egg" but one that remains seared on my brain was Calzino and, this is not a word of a lie, the description next to it said "An Italian bridie".

the first time i went to the grosvenor was 1994 and i was absolutely dumbfounded by the idea that i could get a 'burger' for less than a pound. i ordered it. and then i understood.

I'm in Glasgow for the first time 5th to the 9th September with me Dad. We like whisky, Ivor Cutler and Alasdair Gray. I think he's hoping to see a bit of heritage stuff as his family's originally from Glasgow and go way back.

DL, Hillhead Tube Station, in the West End of Glasgow, has a great mural-map of the area by Alasdair Gray, worth a look if you're passing by.

The Marzaroli photos always feel (to me) much older than they actually are - the sixties as the thirties.

The 70s in Glasgow looks older than the 70s too.

lol, what a hero

Did a few Glasgow Doors Open Days things yesterday, most notably Anniesland Court, the 22-storey grade a listed tower block at Anniesland Cross, which was spectacular and really interesting in its design. The visit was meant to be to the communal areas on the top floor, but the guy in the first flat there had opened up his place for everyone to wander freely. He was a lovely chap and seemed to be enjoying chatting with everyone passing through and showing us all about. He'd stuck little hand-written notes about the place to invite you to explore ("storage cupboard here, please take a look" and that kind of thing) and the place was brilliant - a neat layout and stunning views, of course. Thoroughly recommend it if it's on the line-up next year.

Bump! Am up this way end of month for a very short time. Is there anywhere that does decent steak or burgers etc? Don’t judge me, I’m asking for family. Probably won’t get to see much this time around but is there anything else I should see and do this time around if I have a spare couple of hours?

Best steaks I've had in Glasgow are at Tiffneys on Otago St in the west end

Tiffneys or the Spanish Butcher for steak. Not been there for ages, but Bread Meats Bread has excellent burgers

the butchershop bar and grill is pretty good for steaks (or at least it was the last time i was there a few years ago) and has a nice view of kelvingrove and the university if you get a window table
