I support removing the likes/RTs from public view, can’t really think of a purpose it serves except to flatter the narcissistic and discourage conversation

its pretty funny how when social media took over like every news site was all "the conversation has moved to facebook" and turned their comments the fuck off

I still use tweetbot 90% of the time and it doesn't show the likes/retweets/replies numbers unless you swipe on the tweet! guess I hadn't considered the pile-ones being fueled by how much of a pile-on is already happening but it totally makes sense

imo they should not show the numbers in the feed but should instead add a little icon that says "RATIO'D" in mortal kombat typeface

the number of replies dwarfs the number of likes and retweets, indicating the tweet has said something exceptionally dumb or wrong and everyone is falling over backward to point that out

iirc it was specifically when non-famous people realised famous people were using it and created accounts just to endlessly tweet their idols without ever getting a single reply.

in that tiny moment between famous people being there and non-famous people piling in, the famous people had the opportunity to just be people, and it was actually really nice.

funny thing was a lot of ppl speculated that the account had changed hands and gone from bot to scripted and even identified the exact post where it happened way before the reveal, which is just the kind of insanity that makes the site good lol
