this is the first i have heard of the dmc or 'disco music club'. makes me wonder how many other awesome songs are on this series of dj-only monthly promo records

The only other one I know is this New Order one - which I'm not sure is balearic (and the guy who posted this Youtube vid found it in the same place I did). Doesn't seem to any thread on DMC mixes. Perhaps we should start one...

Hoping to hear some good Balearic vibes, there's no clubs interested in the movement whatsoever here in Oporto. Any advice on how much earlier one should show up? I'm guessing this'll be packed, being free and all?

the henrik schwarx remix is great in it's own right, but the original is a rad little nu-balearic cut with spanish guitars, tribal percussion etc that i can't get enough of right now. the old bluesy sample is pretty effective, too- even if it weirdly reminds me of moby or something

that sample bugs the shit out of me which is sad since the track is great

I really liked the first volume. I started listening to it again a few weeks ago but I can see where the criticisms levelled at it on the Disco Horror blog are coming from

there's a ton of discussion upthread about the first volume. i don't remember specifics but everyone else kinda decided they were disappointed- i think i was saying that i preferred it to fred deakin's 'nu balearica' comp on ministry of sound but nobody agreed, etc.

The Milky Disco series is my favourite I think.

it's not that i hated Cosmic Balearic Beats Vol 1, but it just kinda fell flat on the mix side. wasn't bad though. but the second one is really rad. I feel similarly about the Milky Disco series. Vol 2 >>> Vol 1, but Vol 1 isn't bad

I've only heard that IDIB track, but it's really nice. Starts with static-y rain sound fx, kicks in with a kind of motorik-y beat, lazer sound FX start flyin' around...
You can hear it at the end of a mix Mike Simonetti did for Diesel radio. Come to think of it, Premier Rang did a mix for the IDIB blog that's pretty great.

(that said, there's nothing Balearic about it, as far as I can tell - it's much more 80s Italian horror movie soundtrack stuff)

I love these guys' sound, so lethargic and ominous and dense. I wish they'd do more! I still play their djhistory mix from last year all the time.

yeah the QV remix of ronny & renzo is one of my favorite late-late-late-night listenings

the mungo jetset rmx of big smack and flies is great too
