Officiating was awful. Letting a corner get taken while a sub is being made, taking 5 mins to give an obvious pen, allowing kickoff before the players are in the right halves, blowing up ridiculously early.

The use of VAR has been abysmal throughout and half the refs seem to have simply delegated all important decisions to video.

fwiw, I think that 16 out of 17 penalties have been awarded against sides outside the FIFA top ten rankings so idk if it’s going to continue at this absurd pace throughout.

probably in a minority of one but i'm just about in favour of the new spot kick rule ( tho god knows how long a shootout is gonna last if we get one) given the 2 extremes of what the scotland keeper did last night a v slightly early frwd step being penalized and what keepers routinely got away with pre rule change ie jerzy dudek at istanbul i think the enforcement via var is just about better. tho tbh the lack of enforcement pre law change was willful incompetence anyway.
